great stay and perfect location

Guest: jeff (san francisco )
Date of Stay: 05/09/12 Review Submitted: 05/21/12

Two friends and I stayed in the condo for a several nights and had a great stay. The location is perfect with so much to do within walking distance, making everything so much easier not having to navigate and search or pay for parking. Everything was clean, comfortable, and well-kept. It was great to have a full kitchen, which allowed us to save money by cooking instead of eating out all of the time. We also really enjoyed being able to sit outside on the porch and relax, while enjoying the beautiful weather and view of the city. Overall, we had a wonderful time and Eva was incredibly helpful and hospitable through it all, providing us with directions and snacks, and beverages upon our arrival. We couldn't have found better accommodations.

We Had a Great Time

Guest: Robert (Colorado)
Date of Stay: 05/01/12 Review Submitted: 05/14/12

My family and I rented this apartment this summer and were very pleased with our hosts, the location and the apartment itself. We were very comfortable, found it easy to get around and consisdered this place our home away from home. We will visit again and will recommend to our travelling friends.Eva was friendly, courteous, and felt like a friend I'd known all my life. Thanks to Eva for a memorable stay in Washington!

Older Adults

Guest: Maggie (San Diego, CA)
Date of Stay: 04/15/12 Review Submitted: 04/29/12

This apartment is very small and not adequate for two older people. Not the landlord, Eva's, fault. She is a lovely, responsive lady. However, I could not categorize the unit as suitable for four people unless they were very young or very small. The neighborhood is largely younger people and super noisy on Friday and Saturday nights. Acquiring food is somewhat difficult since the only two large grocery stores are about 6 or 8 blocks away, those being Whole Foods (very nice) and Safeway, (adequate). However, the Metro station is only 2 blocks away and very convenient for getting most anywhere. Just be very careful not to put your Metro ticket next to your cell phone -- it will demagnetize your ticket in a minute. The apartment was adequately set up with all the necessary items to keep house. A suggestion for any landlord -- if you advertise the couch in the living room as "comfortable", spend a night in it yourself. Could be, we're spoiled, but at 75, that's the way it should be! Bottom line -- if you are a young couple wanting a nice apartment in the midst of other young people in a "tony" neighborhood, this might be the place for you.

Good experience but won't go back

Guest: Jen (Tuscaloosa, Alabama)
Date of Stay: 10/26/11 Review Submitted: 11/09/11

Plusses: Cool old bldg., modern furnishings, nicely decorated, well-stocked kitchen, modern appliances in good working order, flat-screen TV with Directv, nice tub/shower with good water pressure, plenty of closet space, nice collection of tourist info/brochures, excellent wireless access, creative use of space, nice big full-length hallway mirror, convenient to post office and pharmacy, convenient to U Street corridor, close to U Street (green/yellow) metro station - 0.3 miles per Metro Tripfinder, Eva very accessible and responsive--she came out right away to give us an extra set of keys. She answered the phone each time we called. Minuses: Not as close to Dupont Circle as we were led to believe - 0.8 miles per Metro Tripfinder - this apt. is on T street between 14th and 15th. Do not come here with lots of luggage (our mistake) - stairs narrow but typical for old building - and there is a washer/dryer in the basement. Multiple trips up stairs with luggage and groceries was hard for my husband's ailing knees. Apt needs a good deep cleaning - dusty, especially behind TV; rugs seemed really dirty. A broom and dustpan in the unit would be nice. The sheets and pillows on bed and sofa are stained. (Sofa was uncomfortable). The place needs some touch-up paint. Needs professional work as well. The cable for the TV runs out the open kitchen window - making easy access for bugs; we did see two roaches while we were there. The power cord for the microwave runs behind -- and sometimes falls into -- kitchen sink. Door to cabinet under sink is missing. Smoke detector on shelf instead of on ceiling - not sure if it works. Bedroom window is broken. A/C units in windows look new but not sealed well - and dusty. Sink in bathroom slow to drain. TINY bedroom, fits bed and that's about it. If you're a member of PETA you might be offended by the animal skin rugs. Same homeless man on corner of T and 14th every morning. We paid full price for the unit (and upset to see the rate cut by a third of that just one week later) but we didn't think it was worth it. We stayed there because we had a good experience with vrbo in the past, but would have preferred a clean hotel with elevator in good part of town to this apt. The place has a lot of potential, though, and Eva was very nice and responsive.

Owner response:Bruce, thank you for your feedback. Our furniture is modern, mostly modern classics, which most people appreciate durning our stay. I am sorry it was not comfortable enough for you. Re. the area, it is safe and friendly. I live just few blocks from the apartment with my two small children - we walk and ride our bikes everywhere. I wish you had called me while staying with us so I could assure you of the safety day and night time and you could have enjoyed all the wonderful restaurants, theatre and jazz clubs, all walking distance. All the best, Eva

Clean but in a questionable neighborhood

Guest: BOBO (Midwest)
Date of Stay: 10/04/11 Review Submitted: 10/10/11

The apartment was very clean although the furniture in the living room was very uncomfortable. The location was a bit far north to walk for sightseeing but the bus and metro were close by and easy to use. Nightlife in the neighborhood is being rejuvenated as well as some of the buildings in that area. Several people we talked to in DC warned us not to be walking around the neighborhood at night but that it was fine during the day. We never had any trouble but did meet some interesting people and stayed in after dark, on the uncomfortable furniture. The owners were very responsive to our questions before renting this unit.

Convenient Location

Guest: Across the Border (Vancouver, B.C., Canada)
Date of Stay: 08/01/11 Review Submitted: 08/17/11

My husband and I stayed here for six nights at the start of August. Communications with Eva were clear and timely so we were able to settle in quickly once we arrived. The apartment is located at the edge of the historical district with beautifully renovated buildings. The metro was easily accessible. On two occasions we walked directly into the Foggy Bottom area to see the neighborhood better. We enjoyed coffee at Peregrine coffee shop nearby. We had great meals at Rice and Cork restaurants which were not inexpensive but worth the cost. We only ate breakfast and snacks at home but the kitchen had everything needed to cook meals. The bed was extremely comfortable. The bedroom is compact so it took up most of the room. The A/C worked well during the hot and humid week that we were in town. John was quick to assist when we needed a new lightbulb and was friendly and helpful. We found the couch was firm to the point that it didn't encourage long bouts of sitting. Since we were mostly out in the city that wasn't a big problem. I was impressed with the 'little touches' that were included in the apartment: good use of closet hanging rods and hooks in every area for towels and clothes; a hairdryer with diffuser; quality shampoo and soap; and umbrellas. Overall the apartment is attractively furnished as shown in the photos at the website. It is in a great location, well priced, and well-maintained. A good place to rent in a wonderful city to visit!

Best trip ever!

Guest: Willis (Clermont, FL)

We had our best family vacation ever in this cute DC condo. We stayed for a week and saw all the sights and had a fabulous time. The owner, Eva, was very helpful and charming and even left us a bottle of wine for our stay! One caution is that is was a bit small for our family of four but would be perfect for any visiting couple to our nation's capital.

Great for Vaction in DC

Guest: Carrie (Winnipeg, Manitoba Canada)
Date of Stay: 05/21/11 Review Submitted: 05/29/11

As advertised, the appartment is in a great location - close to the Metro, which made visiting the sites in DC very easy. The appartment was clean, quiet and had everything we needed. We greatly enjoyed our stay in DC, and a large part was having such a comfortable place to come home to in the evening.

We stayed at this charming apartment for four days and found it very comfortable, clean and well-stocked. The neighborhood is beautiful and so much is within walking distance. What made our stay even better was the owner's kindness and helpfulness; she truly went out of her way on several occasions to assist us. Simply a wonderful stay! By the way, two restaurants not to be missed are DC Noodles and Hank's Oyster Bar...both delicious!

Date of Stay: 01/09/11 Review Submitted: 01/17/11

I decided to rent the apartment instead of staying at a hotel because of the price and have no regrets whatsoever. The apartment is beautiful, very comfortable and, most importantly for me, in a perfect location. In the 4 nights I spent in Washington I simply walked everywhere I wanted, for the apartment is very well located. Also, the owner and her assistants are very kind and quick to answer doubts. I would definitely stay there again and have no reservations in recommending this apartment for anyone willling for a comfortable stay in DC.

This apartment is a great base for a Washington stay for one or two people. Eva has furnished the apartment well, including ample cooking and cleaning products as well as fast internet and a great TV / DVD combo. There's many eating and entertainment options nearby and transport to Washington's main attractions is very easy.

We had a wonderful stay here. The apartment was very convenient in regards to great eats, bus, metro, Dupont Circle, etc. We walked quite a bit but I would definitely recommend the DC Connector bus as the most economical way to travel in the city. The apt itself was clean and furnished w/ all the basic ammenities needed. I would definitely recommend staying here over a hotel because of the kitchen which was stocked w/ basic amenities to save money on meals. Wireless internet was also included, and a plus for us internet junkies :)

Owner response:Thank you very much for your kind review. Glad you had a great time in Washington! I love the DC Connector bus and use it with my kids to get to the museums and The Mall all the time. The buses run every two minutes during rush hour and every five minutes other times which is great as well. Best, Eva

Dear Eva, The apartment was great, it worked for us perfectly. We walked downtown and back a few times and used the metro as well. The U street neighborhood is very cool, we walked around on the evening and felt save. Busboys and Poets restaurant was great for a late dinner and the U Street Cafe was good for breakfast, although we stayed in the apartment the most mornings for breakfast. The bottle of wine on arrival was very much appreciated, thanks for that. We saw and did a lot of things in our week in DC, our feet are sore but we had a great time. Enjoyed coming back to the apartment at the end of the day and having some room to spread out and relax. Thanks A. and N. Victoria, BC Canada

Had a great time in Washington!

Date of Stay: 09/17/10 Review Submitted: 10/25/10

We enjoyed our stay, there was a nice bottle of wine to greet us after a long trip. The apartment is not large but very nicely decorated (mostly IKEA) and was just right for two of us, the bed was very comfortable and we both slept well on the third floor over the quiet street. The bathroom was clean, towels comfy and the shower was great. The kitchen is small but funky and we had everything we needed except we could not find a teapot. The apartment is situated near lots of restaurants on U Street and a Metro Station, which we used a lot. I would recommend downloading the DC Metro app for your iphone, we found it very useful in navigating the city. We walked home from downtown DC a couple of times at 9:30 - 10:00 pm with no concerns about safety as there were always lots of people bustling about. Nice to come back to an apartment where you can stretch out, relax and recuperate from tromping around the Smithsonian Museums. We did not meet the owner, simply arrived and obtained the key from a lockbox outside the building, this system worked just fine. We would recommend this apartment for a couple who want to be near and explore some of the interesting neighborhoods of DC, we had a great time here and would recommend this apartment to friends.

Owner response:Dear Andrew, thank you so much for staying with us on T Street! I am always happy to hear that people have a great time while staying with us and are happy and comfortable. Best, Eva

Comfortable and nice location

Guest: Olet (San Francisco, CA)
Date of Stay: 07/28/10 Review Submitted: 08/18/10

The apartment was more than what we expected. It gave us a nice and comfortable place to plop ourselves down after a day of sightseeing and walking around DC. Even though I didn't meet Eva, I was able to build a rapport with Nene, her trusted aide. She gave me lots of good tips on how to get downtown and where to eat which wasn't that difficult because the area was teeming with good restaurants. The night life was alive and kicking just a block from the apartment and yet you wouldn't know because the apartment was a safe cocoon from the outside world. Since I had my two teenage kids with me, I didn't get to taste the night life but next time, I'm taking my wife and we'll hit the town. The area apparently is a jazz mecca. Thank you, Eva, for giving us the opportunity to experience Washington DC like how the locals do. My children had trepidations about the neighborhood but after seeing how friendly the people were, all their perceived fears melted away.

Had a wonderful DC stay. We appreciated the quiet neighborhood evenings & vibrant alive days spent here. Eva, your attention to detail is to be commented, we found ourselves wanting for nothing! The decorating is super, very upscale and modern, making us feel as though we were at a 5 star hotel! We recommend DC Noodles restaurant, the Elephant and Castle (12th and Penn) for vegetarian fare, as well (of course) as The Whole Foods deli. This has been one of many trips to DC for us, and we will be sure to stay with you in the future, Eva. Take care, Steve and Summer Ehrmann

My husband, 9 y/o granddaughter, and I spent a week here while visiting the city and had a lovely stay. The bed was very comfortable as was the sofa which converted into a bed for our granddaughter. The apartment is within easy walking distance of a Whole Foods market and the smaller Yes Organics. The Metro was about 5 minutes from our door as was a Starbucks and the famour Ben's Chili Bowl. The kitchen was well appointed with everything we needed. The bath had a wonderful tub with plenty of hot water and nice, soft towels. Eva provided many little extras such as jelly beans for our granddaughter, wine and wonderful coffee for us, and even wonderful bath items. We're very glad we stayed here insteady of at a hotel and will definitely contact Eva again when we plan our next trip to D.C.
