Owner's Profile
Owner Description
Year Purchased: 1992
We found the Berkshires by chance as neither of us was really familiar with the area. Now that we've had the property for nearly 18 years, we have become authorities on the Berkshires and we share that information with all our guests.
Why the Owner Chose Great Barrington
We chose this cottage in the Berkshires because of its proximity to both leisure and cultural activities. Additionally, we loved the light and landscape that can be viewed from the cottage at different times of day.
The Unique Benefits of this Cottage
When we are at the cottage, we enjoy sitting on the deck and reading or sunning. Locally, there are hikes and bike routes, both mountain and road, that we take advantage of. We explore new areas of the Berkshires for future hikes. We love going to downtown Great Barrington and parking ourselves with our dog, at an outdoor cafe. We spend time working in our garden and bird watching.

The location, was one of peace and quiet, and yet not far from town (Great Barrington), which was just perfect for us.The cottage was adorable, clean, well-maintained, and had everything we needed. The refrigerator and cook top were minimal, but then with all the terrific restaurants and coffee shops in the area, who needs to cook? If I have one quibble, it is that the bed in the master bedroom was rock-hard, while the mattresses in the second bedroom were saggy. We felt like the three bears, looking for the "just right" bed! But one adjusts -- that's what vacations are all about -- and it surely was nice to come "home" after a busy day of doing all the wonderful tourist-stuff we did, rather than coming back to a motel situated on a busy road. I am delighted with VRBO; a great way to vacation!

We had a wonderful stay here last week. The cottage is immaculately clean, bright, spacious, and comfortable. It was convenient to all the activities we were interested in: hiking, museums, shopping, and restaurants. The owner was so helpful, giving us tips on what to do and see in the area, and she went out of her way to make sure we had everything we needed. We felt so welcomed here!

We spent the 4th of July weekend at the cottage, and loved every minute of it. The cottage is clean, comfortable, and had everything we needed to relax and enjoy the Berkshires. Bruce and Shira are fun and friendly hosts, and they made our visit better than we could have imagined. I recommend the cottage, not only because of the hosts and the amenities, but also because it is conveniently located to Great Barrington and other charming nearby towns. A+ rating!

Stayed at this lovely cottage with my husband and labrador retriever on two occasions. After full days of hiking, biking, and kayaking in the lake we were very happy to be able to kick back in our cozy cottage. Bruce and Shira couldn't have been more hospitable and helpful. We had all the privacy that we needed but when we needed their help or advice they were more than happy to be of service. I was also pleasantly surprised by how lovely the interior of the house was. Turns out Shira is an artist and decorates the house with her own artwork! Strongly recommended! This is a very relaxing getaway. (My dog loved it too)!

I spent a week at this wonderful getaway in July and returned for a second week in August. The cottage itself, semi-attached to the large house, is charmingly decorated, comfortable, very clean with original artwork on the walls that makes this a very unique environment. The beautful basket of various edible goodies that was there to greet me at my arrival set the tone for the warmth, help and hospitality that I experienced in all my interactions with the owners. I brought my cat too, Mr Topaz, and he was made to feel most welcome! The location of the cottage in the Berkshire's is beautiful. I spent a great deal of time bike riding and hiking and was introduced by the owners to the swimming areas in the Green River where the locals go. Wanting to take advantage of the fresh local produce, I had fun shopping at the weekend greenmarket and cooking in house most of my meals. The kitchen while small, was sufficient for my needs. For anyone looking for a restive and restoriative time away - this cottage is the answer. I am looking forward to coming back!
