Location: Elk Rapids, Northwest, Michigan, USA (Only 15 Miles North of Traverse City)
Accommodations: House, 2 Bedrooms + Loft, 2.5 Baths (Sleeps 6-8)
Keywords: House
We built our family cottage in the early 1970’s and expanded it in the early 1980's. It's a chalet-style with two bedrooms and a loft with two twin beds. There's also a recreation room in the walkout basement. We also have a queen-size Aero bed available. The house is located on a quiet road only two miles north of the beautiful village of Elk Rapids, Michigan. It's on a nice deep wooded lot on the East Arm of Grand Traverse Bay just about 300 feet north of the unspoiled beach of the Palmer-Wilcox Nature Preserve.
The village of Elk Rapids is a small town that’s just made for a special vacation get-away. There are beautiful beachfront parks, a great little movie theater, several nice art galleries, antique shops, a wonderful marina, public library and restaurants all right downtown. Elk Rapids is bordered on the west by Grand Traverse Bay and on the east by Elk Lake, with Elk River winding through. Torch Lake is just a short drive or boat ride away.
Elk Rapids is located just about 15 minutes north of Traverse City and about a half hour south of Charlevoix. Nearby you’ll find lots of great golf courses, skiing in the winter, the Vasa biking/cross country ski trail, casinos, shopping, and endless spectacular countryside views.
There are nearby festivals and sporting events year-round: Horse Shows By the Bay in July, Red Wings Training Camp in September, Elk Rapids Harbor Days in August, The National Cherry Festival featuring the Navy Blue Angels and the Traverse City Film Festival in July, The Vasa Cross-Country Ski Race and Winter Wonderfest in February, Gaylord's Alpenfest in July and the Charlevoix Venetian Festival among many others. If you like a good ballgame the Traverse City Beach Bums play at Wuerfel Park all summer long.

Owner's Profile
Owner Description
About forty years ago my parents were looking for a nice place on the water where our family could kick back and spend great times together. They found it here in Elk Rapids. With help from local builders, we built our cottage on the bay and have been enjoying it ever since. After my parents passed away, the cottage became mine, and I hope it continues to be a place we can enjoy. My husband and I live nearby in Acme Township, just 15 minutes away. We both love living in Northwest Lower Michigan. We play hockey in the winter with our two kids and we all enjoy our boat and camping in the summer. I also enjoy riding my horse and sometimes, when I can, competing in Competitive Trail Rides. We feel very fortunate to live in such a beautiful part of the country where we can be near the water every day and we hope you enjoy our cottage as much as we have over the years.
The Unique Benefits of this House
We truly enjoy relaxing on the beach and watching the spectacular sunsets over Grand Traverse Bay. It's a nice bike ride into town to do some shopping or enjoy an ice cream cone, and maybe do a little fishing at the dam. The Elk Rapids Cinema is the best movie deal around and it's a unique venue that's recently had a great facelift. There's always an antique store to browse around or an art fair to enjoy. And the best fireworks of the summer are always at Harbor Days!
