Owner Description

This picture is of our youngest son Adrian with his cousin Max who just caught a prize Lake Trout in front of our cabin, You can bet it was delicious eating. We're a family of 5. My wife, myself and 3 boys who love being active in the outdoors and we were looking to buy a lakefront getaway. We live in NH and all the properties are on overpopulated lakes, too noisy and with little privacy....and horribly expensive. When we saw Tomhegan, we just thought it was a magical place. We like to spend quality family time at our cabin, kayaking, hiking, boating and fishing and exploring on the greatest lake in New England, Moosehead Lake......and of course working hard to maintain and make our cabin the really special and unique place that it is. We hope you get the chance to visit Tomhegan and stay in a cabin or the lodge with your family and friends!

Moosehead Lake Log Cabin - Tomhegan Camps, Rockwood, Maine

Such a wonderful place ...

Guest: Sheryl P.
Date of Stay: 09/24/11 Review Submitted: 01/10/12

We're never disappointed after a visit to Tomhegan. Always beautiful, always comfortable, always peaceful ... and this trip was no different. The managers on site are friendly and helpful, the ever-present deer wandering the property are relaxing to watch, and we can either completely disconnect by sitting on our cabin's porch or sitting for hours down by the lake or we can take a ride into town for a round of golf at Kineo. We love that it's entirely up to us.

Owner response:Thanks so much for sharing your thoughts and experiences after your visit to Tomhegan Camps. Yes, we feel quite lucky to be located on Moosehead Lake, one of the largest lakes in New England. On you next visit, reserve one of our kayaks or one of the small motor boats and take an evening tour on the Lake to see a moose, do some fishing for salmon or brook trout or if you're real lucky, you'll spot one of the many bald eagles. Let us know when you are ready and we will welcome you to come stay with us again! Thanks again. Your hosts, Leona and Norm.

Perfect Vacation

We again really enjoyed our stay at Tomhegan Camps this summer. Our cabin was very, very nice with all the comforts of home. The boat marina worked great for our boat and it was nice to have a private waterfront to our cabin. Amazing evening moonrise, loons. The fishing was slow but we ate every brook troout and salmon we caught. Thanks Leona and Norm. It was memorable and we'll be back.

Tomhegan is 'Heaven on Earth!'

Guest: Moosehead Mama (Marblehead, MA)
Date of Stay: 08/22/10 Review Submitted: 12/07/10

This place is like 'heaven on earth.' If you are looking for a place to relax during any season, I highly recommend Tomhegan. It is beautiful and peaceful and nestled on a point on one of the most beautiful parts of Moosehead Lake. I have rented almost all of the cabins at one time or another and they each have their own unique charm. They are clean, cozy and comfortable and it's been hard to choose which one to stay in sometimes. Whatever your interest - hiking, fishing, kayaking/canoeing, hunting, snowmobiling, ice fishing, swimming/boating or just reading, cooking and relaxing with family or friends, this place can accommodate! And by the way - and the animals are amazing - feed deer right from your porch, go moose or bird watching and enjoy nature. Kids and adults love it - we have had some of our best family times and created some fantastic memories at Tomhegan! It's a must visit for all ages!

Owner response:Thanks so much for taking the time to submit a review Moosehead Mama! We appreciate your comments and thank you for your patronage. Tomhegan is certainly one of the "best kept secrets" of places to stay on Moosehead Lake.....but maybe, that's why people love the peace, quiet and unspoiled nature. Please come stay with us again.........and of course, let your friends know what a "heavenly" wonderful place Tomhegan really is. Thanks again!

This spot on Moosehead would be hard to beat! Incredible views. Rustic, clean and comfortable. Norm and Leona were gracious and efficient hosts who went above and beyond to see that we had all that we needed. We stayed in one cabin and friends were in another. Each cabin has it's own unique charm. This would be an ideal place for a family reunion! Don't know how you could beat this!!!

Really enjoyed our 7 day stay. The cabin was warm, clean and had all the comforts of home! Tomhegan is the best kept secret in Maine and we will be back again real soon for another stay. Looks like we're going to have a great winter with lots of snow, great snowmobiling, snowshoeing and cross country skiing. The wood stove/fireplace was really nice and having a hot shower at the end of the day was super.

Deer at your doorstep

Guest: Tooting Beckham (London)
Date of Stay: 08/23/08 Review Submitted: 09/12/08

We had a lovely time at Tomhegan Camp. Donna and Tony, the managers, were very friendly and helpful. Our cabin was rustic but comfortable with big wooden beds and a lot of space to eat, cook and just sit by the fire. We rented a canoe and a motorboat. Our two boys loved that there were other children to play with and plenty of space to run around in search of adventures. And of course they loved feeding the deer, which would show up every morning and evening and sometimes in the middle of the day, too.

Owner response:We are very pleased that you enjoyed your visit and we hope to see you again. We are glad we could make your vacation a pleasant one. Thank-you, Donna & Tony

Wildlife and Fun at Tomhegan

Guest: mlee (Port Byron, NY, USA)
Date of Stay: 08/16/08 Review Submitted: 08/26/08

We went with a group of 9 people (4 adults, a 14 year old, two 12 year olds, an 8 year old and a 2 year old) and our experience was great! There were plenty of activities for all ages and plenty of space to accommodate our large group. The cabins are rustic looking, but have everything you would need, including dishes, pots and pans, bedding and bath towels. There's hot water and toilets- yeah! Just bring food, clothes, toiletries, and maybe some extra swimming towels! The lake is beautiful for swimming, boating, fishing, and sitting next to, for a campfire. The wildlife is pretty entertaining, especially to the little ones- but the older kids got a kick out of it too! We fed the deer, ducks, chipmunks and squirrels, and even saw some moose. One morning I pulled up the shade on the door and was startled by the deer waiting with her nose 6" from the glass! Most of the does have fawns- even one with triplets! It's a beautiful and fun place to take your family for a vacation!
