The area is full of tradition with local festivals, competitions, sporting events and food festivals. If needed, assistance is available at the nearby restaurant for directions and suggestions.
Nestled in the Asti area in a small locale where you can live and be part of the countryside and yet not far from the traditional tourist sights. Here you will be able to enjoy a unique but traditional experience, plus Astigian cooking at its best! The living quarters are situated on a quiet hilltop overlooking the Asti area countryside. Just across the street is a full scale restaurant specializing in traditional Piemontese cuisine which is owned and run by the home owner’s cousin, Walter Merlone and his wife, Paola. There you can have a traditional several course Astigian meal that will be memorable. With a tradition dating back to the present owner’s great grandmother who offered meals to passerbys when the restaurant was called Gallo Ruspante.
If you want to travel and see the area, it is centrally located so that you can do just that. From Asti (like the spumante) - 6 miles. Asti, itself was a significant Roman outpost and has many medieval monuments and structures.
From Alba - 25-30 miles, the white truffle capital of the world. Nearby Alba you can visit the towns of Barolo and Barberesco considered to be where the best wines in Italy are made with the DOCG (Denominazione d’Origine Controllata Guarantita) meaning the wine’s origin is controlled by very strict requirements and guaranteed.
From Bra - 30-35 miles. Bra is the center for slow food cuisine as opposed to fast food.
From Torino - 40 miles. The first capital of the modern Italian nation, with a population of 1,000,000 and which is famous for its chocolate, vermouth, Fiat (Fabbrica Italiana A Torino) automobiles, and an Egyptian museum, second only to the one in Cairo.
The distance from the Alps (site of the 2006 Winter Olympics) is a 1.5-2.5 hour drive depending on the destination chosen. The Italian Riviera from Nice to Cinque Terre, Genoa, Rapallo and Portofino is also within easy driving distance.
If you want quiet time, just take a book and sit under the gazebo or the terrace in the front or in the backyard. Only the birds, the church bells and an occasional customer to the country store across the street will interrupt your concentration.
Gallo Ruspante was the name of the tavern run by the present owner’s great grandmother who offered meals to passerbys. The former tavern has now been completely remodeled. It is situated on a quiet hill top overlooking the Asti area countryside.
We also have an adorable first floor unit available either by itself or the entire home can be rented on a weekly or monthly basis, please see VRBO Listing 255051 for details
