  A través de un camino rústico, en franco ascenso y en medio de la selva hicimos el recorrido hacia Villa Katino y finalmente conquistamos la cima de la montaña que, de inmediato nos regaló una hermosa panorámica de mar y selva a nuestros pies y en un extremo de esta el hermoso y acogedor bungalow. Diseñado para disfrutar en toda su magnitud la naturaleza, flora y fauna a la mano; con un loft que integra sala, comedor, cocina, jacuzi, con todo lo necesario para disfrutar nuestra estancia: dos cálidas habitaciones y no puedo dejar de lado la ducha, misma que a pesar de estar dentro del bungalow, nos da la sensación de un baño en media selva. El lugar es sencillamente maravilloso, hermosos amaneceres y atardeceres, ninguno fue igual, lo mismo que el mar y la selva, siempre nos regalaban diferentes cosas: sonidos, colores, frescura o calidez o los monos aullando y alimentándose en nuestras narices, el canto de las aves, la lluvia y el viento; lejos muy lejos del mundanal ruido y contaminación de la ciudad, el tiempo corre despacio y el alma y nuestros cuerpos se relajan, viviendo y admirando la Creación de Dios, no hay prisa, cero estrés Un relajante masaje con agua caliente en el jacuzi y el disfrute de la vista al infinito en la piscina, comida sana y buena lectura con música de fondo, solaz descanso; esto no tiene precio y lo mejor de todo podemos escuchar “Los sonidos del silencio”. Gracias a Tino que hizo que nuestra estancia fuera muy agradable, junto a Nancy y Martín, que se comportaron como amigos. Gerardo, Cindy y Leda. Costa Rica.

  This home is truly MAGNIFICENT !! We have stayed in many homes in Mal Pais, and this is one of our all time favorites. The views of the coastline are beyond stunning. The home is surrounded by a lush jungle filled with exotic plants, butterflies, and the sounds of howler monkeys --- So Amazing. The sunsets are a spectacular show that should not to be missed. The home was luxurious and immaculate with all the amenities that you could want. We can't thank our host, Tino, enough for being so generous and kind during our stay. We arrived very late in the evening, and he was there to welcome us and to make sure that everything was just perfect for us. He really went above and beyond to make sure that our vacation was very special. The days of relaxing by the pool were just not enough. This property is a True Piece of Paradise in Mal Pais.   What a great place! We booked Villa Katino for a week - and could not have been happier. In all, we were 2 families with kids and occasional visitors, and everybody fit perfectly. The place is truly special, and it is very tastefully decorated and appointed. As the pictures suggest, the view is stunning, to say the least. Seriously, I believe the view from the pool is about as good as it gets. I dream of going back and doing nothing but just hanging out in the pool with a drink in my hand and a smile on my face! The rest of the villa is very comfortable and spacious. I would say it's understated, attractive, and thankfully, unpretentious. As an American, I admit that I wish the entire house (not just the bedrooms) were air conditioned, but the Euro's amongst us seemed to have no trouble with it. After all, we were there in mid-summer, and I assume, this is not really an issue most of the rest of the year? Tino (the proprietor) is a very nice guy, and does an excellent job of being omnipresent, without being bothersome (not always easy!). He is very knowledgeable about the area, and very generous with his time in helping out his guests. All in all, a real gem, and a place that we all agreed we'd love to visit again. The 5 stars I've given Villa Katino is well warranted.

  Villa Katino, a place to luxuriate, to chill, to gaze, to meditate and to have fun. A beautiful house with an even better view or woods and the sea, lovely pool, Jacuzzi under cover so that it can be used even in the rain. We drove from San Jose, through the bustling town of Mal Pais (an excellent bakery, a well stocked grocery and several good restaurants) and up, up, into a place of peace and quiet. Although we were only three people, my granddaughter age 11, my grown son and me, the house comfortably sleeps eight and can manage 10. It was a lovely place for a get away. There is a fully equipped indoor kitchen and a separate terrace equipped with a Weber grill, fridge, sink and cabinets for barbequing. For those who want to stay connected, there is internet and TV. Tino, the host and owner, formerly a football (soccer) player and dive master, is originally from Germany, has lived in Costa Rica for several years as well as a number of other places in the world. He stays nearby and can regale visitors with anecdotes from far and near or just provide helpful information about the house and the area. I look forward to visiting again.

  On our way to Mexico to Argentina we have spent 3 days in Villa Katino. Our expectations were far exceeded and we felt like in paradise! A beautiful oasis in the middle of the jungle with an overwhelming view on the beaches of Mal Pais and stunning sunsets! The perfect place to relax and to think back over our travelling impressions. Special thanks to Tino, the owner! It was a highlight to stay at your property!

  My husband and I stayed at Villa Katino for our 7 days, 6 nights honeymoon trip in Costa Rica. Our stay at Villa Katino was beyond our expectations. Villa Katino is located in the hilltop of Mal Pais, Costa Rica. The property overlooks the Pacific Coastline as well as the jungle. The view is absolutely breathtaking and nothing that either one of us has ever seen before. During our stay at Villa Katino, we were visited by geckos, iguanas, exotic birds, and yes... the monkeys. The owner, was very accommodating during our stay. He assisted us with any questions that we had. My husband and I were able to get a couples massage at the property by having the owner arrange for two massage therapists to come up to Villa Katino. The owner of Villa Katino was also extremely helpful in finding activities for us to do during our stay such as snorkeling and ziplining. It was definitely an adventure to get to the property, but it was well worth it. For our honeymoon trip, my husband and I were looking for a place that was in a more remote location away from all of the touristy, all-inclusive resorts. If you are looking for a quiet place to stay, Villa Katino is for you. My husband and I had such a great time during our stay at Villa Katino that we are looking forward to visiting Villa Katino again in the near future. Pura Vida!

  Ein Blick vom Himmel auf das Paradies. Traumhafte Sonnenuntergänge über dem Dschungel von Mal Pais mit Blick auf den Pazifik sind einfach unbezahlbar! Wir haben in vollen Zügen die letzten Wochen in der Villa Katino genießen können und blicken nun mit einem traurigen Auge von hier zurück in die Ferne. Das Haus und sein Servicepersonal haben uns jeden Wunsch von den Augen abgelesen und uns einen unbeschreiblichen Urlaub beschert. Land und Leute sind uns in kürzester Zeit ans Herz gewachsen, was wir unseren Hausherrn Tino zu verdanken haben. 5 Sterne sind hier definitiv nicht ausreichend! Vielen Dank für die vielen Tipps und super Empfehlungen!

  Wir können uns den vielen postiven Bewertungen eigentlich nur in Gänze anschließen... Villa Kantino ist ein zauberhafter, beindruckender und einfach sehr besonderer Ort, den wir kaum verlassen wollten. Einfach den Pool, die Ruhe und immer wieder Ausblick, Ausblick, Ausblick genießen- auf den Pazifik, den Dschungel, die Affen in den Bäumen oder die unglaublichen Sonnenuntergänge. Ein perfekter Platz zum Entspannen. Aber auch wenn man Bewegung braucht gibt es so viel zu erleben im Surfparadies. Wir haben endlose Strandwanderungen gemacht und waren schnorcheln. Beim Surfen und Reiten haben wir gemeinsam mit unserem 9 Monate alten Sohn bei diesem Besuch nur zugesehen. Doch auch er hat diese Zeit sehr genossen und sich sichtlich wohlgefühlt. Nach drei Tagen konnte er Dank der Katze des Hauses krabbeln und war dann nicht mehr zu stoppen. Die absolute Kinderfreundlichkeit der Ticos war immer wieder toll zu erleben und hat viel Spaß gemacht- genauso wie die tolle Betreuung durch den Hausherrn und der perfekte Service. Also rundum selbst mit Kind eine absolute Empfehlung.

  My husband and I married this past October and spent our 12-day honeymoon at Villa Katino. Our wedding was in Colorado, and we flew the next day to San Jose, Costa Rica, rented a car, and drove several hours across the country to this incredible oasis of beauty and solitude. We absolutely fell in love with Villa Katino. This place is INCREDIBLE! The house is spacious and fully supplied with all amenities, and the views and peaceful setting seem too amazing to be true, but this lush tropical getaway is really like a dream come true. Words cannot describe how truly stunning the setting and house are, but we are telling all of our friends what a treasure this place is. The owner, Tino, was super accommodating and did everything possible to make our stay comfortable and easy. He even stocked the refrigerator with the list of supplies my husband sent ahead of time, and recommended different restaurants and tours available on the peninsula. We enjoyed in-home massages, a personal chef (very reasonable rates!) several evenings for dinner, and a nearby zip lining canopy tour of the jungle. And of course, we spent many hours relaxing in the infinity edge pool and the hot tub. Even after being at Villa Katino for more than a week, we were reluctant to leave this mountaintop paradise overlooking the Pacific Ocean. Our one piece of advice is to be aware that 4-wheel drive is necessary for getting up the steep, bumpy roads, but the adventure is so worth it. We had the best honeymoon ever, and want to tell everyone to take a trip to Villa Katino!

  Recommended for: Age 55+, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, girls getaway, adventure seekers, sightseeing.

  The villa offers enough space for 10 people, a jacuzzi and a pool - when you are swimming you can look down to the beach of Santa Teresa, what a feeling, especially in the morning. My special recommendation is the appartment below the honeymoon suite where you have a shower with 2 open "windows", so you have an open air feeling ! My wife liked the feeling for style and the taste which you find in the whole villa. That's certainly a place to remember and to return !!!
