This place was fantastic. Unlike the other buildings in the area it is set back away from the road which gives you a lot more privacy. The parking is easy in/out. The garden was gorgeous and the jasmine plant in front of the window gives you an endless breeze of it's intoxicating fragrance. My mom and I both really enjoyed the rental and spent time relaxing on the comfy couch and having a drink. It was clean, well stocked and even though we were two females alone in the home we never felt unsafe. The owners were prompt with any questions we had. We'll definitely be back.

We moved away from San Diego almost 2 years ago and went back last month in November to visit friends and wine taste in Temecula. We had our 120 lb dog traveling with us so finding a hotel was near impossible. By amazing luck we found the Paul's rental. Rarely in Pacific Beach do you find a place with such a large, lush front yard and off street parking - a huge plus. Set up with a porch, barbeque and large space to play out front was PERFECT! Grand Ave is a busy street, but the house is set far back so it's quiet. The location is unbeatable! Within 1-5 blocks you have all the boutique shops, restaurants, bars, grocery store and a 24 hour fitness. Mission Bay and the beach are is just a short walk away. I took our dog for a nice long morning run along the bay, it was serene, crisp and nostalgic - highly recommend. The house was clean, well furnished, large master bedroom, small back porch with laundry facilities. The perfect vacation home away from home. Last note is the Pacific Beach area has much more to do and is safer than a lot of the vacation rentals that came up in Mission Bay near the Mission boardwalk. A rough crowd hangs out in Mission so I'd suggest staying in PB and its a short bike ride along the boardwalk to visit/see the rollercoaster, etc, but again I wouldn’t want to stay down that direction. Safe travels to all!

I used to live in PB and felt like part of the good ole' neighborhood! I didn't have a car, but if you do the parking accommodations are a 10! I myself preferred spending time in the neighborhood riding one of the two bicycles provided in the rental. The duplex is on a main street, but not to worry, it is set back and there is a beautiful front yard with your own personal deck! The house is well maintained, comfortable, spacious, and full of every accessory you might need! Including bikes, boogie boards, dishwasher, washer/dryer, comfortable & tasteful furniture, and a personal deck with a grill. Along with all of these amenities, your hostess & host are assessable to you at all times and are more than willing to make your stay a pleasant one! I not only recommend this property, I look forward to staying at it again! Thanks again Christiana & Joseph!

- Comfy layout with lots of couch space, big dining room table, spacious kitchen, nice little deck and yard - Good location, close to everything without the cost and noise associated with being right on the water. I agree with a previous reviewer that the walking may be a bit much for small children or the less mobile. - Owners very prompt at answering questions via email, processing payment, and refunding deposit - Would stay here again!

I recently stayed at the 2 bedroom duplex with my 2 children (4 yrs old and 1). I read the reviews prior to staying there and was under the impression that we would be close enough to walk to the beach. After the second day of walking to the beach my girl was sick of walking. It is a longer walk than I thought. The Harbor area does have a cute park that the kids enjoyed. Neighbors are loud. It is a party area. Lots of bars, so going out to eat at night you are surrounded by drunks. We went around PB shops in the early afternoon to avoid this. On very busy street, very loud. I wish that was mentioned before my booking. Duplex itself was clean for considering how old it was. My husband saw a few roaches, but may be normal for the area? When we first got there the cleaning lady just finished cleaning however, our feet were black after a few hours from walking around barefoot in the house...not sure what that was about. Owners were very pleasant to work with I would consider this place again without the kiddos.

Owner response:We do our best to represent our home as accurately as possible to prospective guests. Our home is 4 blocks to the bay and 4 blocks to the beach, but even that short walk may be a lot for a tired toddler. One of the great aspects of our property is that it is in the "heart" of Pacific Beach. That can bring with it pros and cons--you can walk everywhere, but if you are used to living in the quiet suburbs, you will hear more foot and traffic noise than you may be used to. That's part of staying in a lively beach community. Because our house it at the back of the lot, traffic noise, especially when inside the house is minimal. We do all that we can to control noise from our neighbors and the community. We try to be as flexible as possible with our check in/out policies. Whenever possible we try to allow guests to check in early. We have the home thoroughly cleaned after each guest by housekeepers who know our property very well. We were surprised to hear of a concern with regard to cleanliness as this has not been an issue with other guests. Additionally, we do have a regular service that guards our home against insects and other pests as a preventative measure. We want our guests to have a good experience and choose the property that will best suit their needs. We have not known our home to have regular noise issues, but Pacific Beach in general can have noisy people at times. Our "Walkscore" is 86, "very walkable."

Very cozy beach home away from home ...

We were very happy with this beach rental. The master bedroom has a large window that provided the best morning views and cool breezes. The house was very comfortable for the three adults and our beloved Shih-Tzu on this trip. We walked everyday to either a local market, a great restaurant(s) or just cruised the neighborhood with our dog. Many of the local places too were very dog-friendly which delighted us as we try to include our dog in everything we do. We were very much at ease and felt very relaxed at this house. It was very clean and well taken care of. We also loved the patio with the BBQ. Our dog also enjoyed lounging on the lawn out front which was a very safe distance from the street which we knew would keep her safe.Joseph and Christiana provide a great vacation/getaway rental. They also answered the very few questions we had very promptly too. Thanks for providing us with a very, very enjoyable vacation for our family.

This place was great! Has everything you need, including washer/dryer, bikes, cookware, and BBQ. Amazing location! Very close to grocery stores, the beach, and nightlife. Perfect yard for a BBQ! The neighbors were noisy, which did not bother me but may be a pain for those with children.

Pacific Beach at its best

This place is huge and great for a larger family visit. It also has a really nice front yard that gives you some distance from the street, although it was never a bother. It's situated in an ideal location, close to Trader Joe's and Garnet restaurants, and just a bit farther to the beach and the restaurants there. Joseph and Christiana are both great and responsive to all inquiries and needs. Highly recommended!

Charming Cottage at Pacific Beach Perfect for Family Vacation

Centrally located on bus route, close to shopping, restaurants, beach and bay, this quaint duplex is efficiently operated and kept neat & clean by an attentive family. It includes everything you need and more, including ample parking, beach toys, barbeque, bykes, full internet and cable, a nice fully equipped kitchen. We especially enjoyed the shaded deck in a lovely garden, which was a source of tasty vegetables for several meals!!

We have gone to San Diego almost every year for almost forty years and have always stayed at the beach until this trip. It was our youngest son's 30th birthday and he and his friend flew down from San Francisco and our oldest son and his wife drove with us from the Phoenix area. The house was great with plenty of room for the six of us and had everything we needed. The location is in walking distance of every place we usually go and we did a lot of walking. The little deck out front is a nice touch for coffee and the paper in the morning and the parking is a nice bonus. Usually we would just leave our car in one place for fear of losing the spot. For a party of six it is a lot more reasonable than gettin three hotel rooms so we plan on coming back.

We were very comfortable at Joseph and Christiana's rental. There were four of us total. The beds were comfortable and we slept like babies! Everything is convenient, either if you are going to restaurants or wanting to fix something at the house. (I wish we had a Henry's to buy groceries where I live.) Lots of good eateries and very casual. But we did choose to bbq at the house a few times and it worked out fine (loved the homegrown tomatoes and zucchini!) I had a feeling about this from the first time I corresponded with the Pauls. They are good people and I hope to stay there again!!

Very comfortable home, with all you need for your trip to the beach. Very helpful and respectful owners, gave great ideas for places to eat, visit. Nice sheets, cozy beds, kitchen has good amenities, really nice having 2 bathrooms and laundry access when vacationing with teenage girls! Great selection of cable channels, nice outdoor patio. This is a very comfortable and conveniently located place to stay. We had 2 toddlers with us and were happy to find that it electric outlets were already child proofed. We enjoyed using the grill and walking to the beach. It is very easy to find as well, right off of the highway and close to everything. The property is clean and well-maintained. The only recommendation we have is to have a toaster in the kitchen as we had to cook our waffles in the oven. The fridge is a good size and the kitchen has a lot of good cupboard space. We were grateful that the beach towels and boogie boards were already provided. The kids really enjoyed the games. Joseph and Christiana were very attentive and I would recommend staying here to anyone :)

San Diego Get Away

My family and I (which included 5 adults, 1 toddler and 1 german shepherd) thoroughly enjoyed our weekend stay at this pacific beach rental. We found it spacious, welcoming and conveniently located. We enjoyed the zucchini from the garden and meeting the owners, Christiana and Joseph during our stay as well. The tropical yard and pleasant patio made it a great place to relax and feel at home and was perfect for our toddler and shepherd to play. We are looking forward to our next visit and will definately be return visitors here.

The unit was the perfect size for our party of four with our little dog. The decor was comfortable and clean and we had everything we needed to enjoy our long weekend, including a huge gas grill on the patio, everything we needed for the kitchen, boogie boards and beach "stuff", etc.... The living room is very cute with a large TV, books, games, DVD player, etc, and it was super convenient to have the wifi, which was as fast as what we have at home. The location is a short walk to the beach and Garnet St restaurants and shops, but not so close that noise was an issue. We easily could have not moved our car all weekend. We had a chance to meet the owners whom were so friendly and we can't wait to stay with them again!

clean, convenient and family oriented

I made up my mind renting this place for my family's spring break by reading other reviews. After living here with a couple of days left I'd say it's beyond my expectation. This property is spacious and very clean, especially the bathrooms and bedrooms. We're surprised by how convenient our life has become 400 miles away from home. We even found a high chair and a music table for our toddler, both cleaned and ready to use. Not to mention the decorations and the location. The WIFI connection speed is not as strong as at home but overall sufficient for emails; The ketch is not equipped with a fan so heavy cooking is not recommended. Keep in mind this is a not a new house and not every detail is hotel like. The owner puts a lot of thoughts in making this place home like and family oriented, which is totally appreciated. Also his communication has been delightful and very informative. We'e recommend this place to our friends.

This house is in a really great location-walking distance to the beach, lots of restaurants and bars, a Trader Joe's right around the corner and a grocery store right down the street. The house has a fully stocked kitchen with everything that you need to cook just about anything and it has all the amenities that you could possibly need. Its a really adorable place and very well kept. The owners are very hospitable and really nice people. They were really great to rent from. I plan on staying here next time I'm in San Diego and would recommend the place to anyone.

I recently stayed here for 5 months while I was in San Diego for work. The house was great. I had all the comforts of home plus the beach is a 5 minute walk in either direction. The house is fully furnished and has a full kitchen too. Joe and Christiana are wonderful neighbors and always willing to help out or give you ideas for food and fun. This is one of the few houses in PB that has a yard big enough to entertain guests and play some games. You are in walking distance of everything at the beach and there is a bus stop nearby if you need to travel farther and dont have a car. I will always stay here when I am in San Diego.

We had a great stay in this half duplex. We had 4 adults, 2 infants, and it was great to not be on the bay or beach with all the loud parties and singles scene. Loved having the bikes and a grill and everything we needed for the beach. Wish there had been an AC, but it was one of those rare hot and humid weekends. Our hosts were very accomodating and helpful!

We were so pleased to have this a pet friendly rental.Our lil dog loved the grass in the front yard and the oppurtunity to play in a yard rather a hotel room. We truly did feel like PB locals. We loved cruisin around PB on the bikes that were included. We were close to all the sights and literally walking distance to all the local attractions. Our hosts were very nice an accomodating. We will defintly stay here again.

We had a delightful stay in this home. The duplex is cozy and well-equipped, and the hosts go out of their way to make the stay pleasant by providing access to their garden, tips on local restaurants and services, and innumerable “little extras” while still giving you lots of space and privacy. Don’t miss walking/running around sail bay, just four blocks away. There is a little street noise sometimes from Grand Avenue but it quiets down at night. Otherwise, great location, great house, great hosts!

This place is a gem! We recently spent ten days there with our 6 year old niece. The place was warm and lovley, it felt like home, neat and spacious and comfortable, with all the amenities you could hope for and then some. The owners, who live adjacent are discreetly respectful, yet wonderfully helfpul for San Diego tips, if you like, and available. It has a quiet hide away feel, and yet is in a buzzing part of town, with a green grocer [Trader Joe's] a block away, and streets replete with interest: shops, eateries, and ice cream stands. We took advantage of walking access to beach and bay, a San Diego mainstay. It was also a great lauching pad to other local and Southern California sights, since there is easy freeway access. We thoroughly enjoyed the garden in front of the house, where we could remain "at home" while enjoying the outside and climate San Diego weather, as well as some seasonable veggies. Highly recommended to any visitor to San Diego who is looking for a home away from home in beautiful San Diego. Nancy and Rus.
