Location: Red Hook, Hudson Valley, New York, USA (1 hour 40 mins north of NYC; minutes from Rhinebeck)
Accommodations: House, 4 Bedrooms, 3 Baths (Sleeps 8-10)
Unspeakably beautiful is the phrase that comes up again and again when people first visit this stone faced mid century modern gem in the heart of the Hudson Valley. This is a completely private property surrounded by beautifully landscaped gardens and groomed woods. Breathtaking views out every window... indoor outdoor living at its best. Wrap around blue stone patios, Wisteria covered Pergola and outdoor fireplace give this home a distinctly European feel. The art filled interior of the house is spacious and open, featuring floor to ceiling glass panels on both sides, punctuated by an impressive stone fireplace. Clean lines and stone surfaces artfully combine to harmonize its modernism with country surroundings. Artisan built stone steps lead down a mossy slope to the crystal clear spring fed swimming pond complete with dock.
All four seasons offer something spectacular here because it's all about the nature. Summer blooms, lazy afternoons in the hammock, sunset cocktails on the dock, farm fresh bounty cooked on the grill and outdoor feasts give way to spectacular fall color out every window. Winter brings it's own brand of cozying up around the fireplace, indoors and out after a day of downhill or cross country skiing.
Only one hour and forty minutes from NYC by train or car. There is plenty to do in the surrounding area, although you will find it difficult to leave the beauty of this property. We are 15 minutes from Historic Rhinebeck which offers great restaurants and Haven Spa. 25 minutes south of the art and antique filled town of Hudson, NY and Woodstock, NY is a stone's throw across the river. The renowned Omega Institute offering workshops in holistic health and well being is only 15 minutes away. The perfect country retreat. "It's like Zen eco resort meets Napa Valley meets Frank Lloyd Wright".

Owner's Profile
Owner Description
Year Purchased: 2008
I moved to this property two years ago after selling my 3000 square foot loft in Manhattan. When I first stumbled on this property as a rental I felt blessed--it was the perfect retreat to nature I was looking for. At the time I didn't intend to purchase it, but fell in love with the peace and natural beauty of the place. I am a photographer specializing in food and interiors, so was thrilled to find such a home and property with so much visual appeal. There are two structures on the property; the main house and a cottage that doubles as my studio and guest house. When I rent the main house I stay in the guest house. Both homes are groomed for renting on a regular basis. As an artist, I am particularly sensitive to my surroundings, so I am continually beautifying the home and property. I am happy to have the opportunity to share the beauty with guests who have a discriminating eye as well.
Why the Owner Chose Red Hook
I love the fact that it is easily accessible from the city by train or car, the Hudson Valley has the most beautiful countryside combined with lots of culture, and great restaurants.
The Unique Benefits of this House
There is nothing like waking up to the stunning views out every window of the house. Coffee on the front porch overlooking the lake and/or mountains in the distance, or down on the dock by the pond is a great way to start the day.
