Nine club members ventured to Cayman Brac to dive. We found this beautiful estate which would accommodate us all, in one place. The price was very reasonable. The location on the beach was fantastic. Though the weather could have been better, we still had a great time. The house is beautifully laid out. Room for indoor dining for the nine of us would have been a plus but we managed, eating meals on the deck when the weather permitted. The grounds were very inviting; the pool was refreshing and the wildlife (chickens and Oatmeal, the pig) were added attractions which gave the estate character. The owner is very gracious, friendly and accommodating. We would definitely consider staying here again.

So much has been said about this remarkable property in the previous reviews that I encourage you to read them for property information. I wish only to add that if Shane Timothy is representative of VRBO, it's the only way we'll ever rent again! Shane started our week with a thorough walk-thru of the property, inside and out -- we found the refrigerator and pantry stocked, and wine and liquor in the bar, to get us started -- and later gave us a personal tour of the island, pointing out prime shore spots for scuba and snorkeling. When Shane found out that my wife would spend the week in a wheelchair, he had a ramp built to the raised deck of the inground pool, and later added planking to ease her tranfer across the decorative stones between the driveway and the front steps. One evening he cooked and personally served a very delicous Thai dinner for our 3 generation family of 10, using ingredients from his exotic garden; he brought jerk chicken to the house for another dinner; and arranged for a 2 person band (the Jammers) to prepare dinner another evening and then play for hours on our patio. The musicians involved our 4 grandchildren (ages 8 - 12) in playing the drums and tamborines and singing around a microphone, making this one of the most memorable nights our family has shared. Shane ended the week by showing up at the house at 4:45 AM on our day of departure, to help us get our group and our luggage (and wheelchair) to the airport for a 6:30 AM flight. Shane has a beautiful house in a splendid setting, and his personal attention truly iced the cake for our family vacation.
Owner response:Thank You for your kids words. You are a lovely family Oatmeal will be miss you all and will be waiting for your return!!!

My dream was always to be on an isolated island and this fit the bill. This is as close as you can be, but with 5 star accommodations. I am well traveled and this is the best trip I have been on. Great house, very nice coral reef style beach. Hosts were the best. Whatever we asked for , we got and they provided much more than requested. It is a remote island , so not for folks that need to be entertained. If you are outgoing and seek your own entertainment, this place is for you. We snorkeled, we explored caves, visited the brown boobies on the cliffs and made daily excursions. When not exploring, we spent time at the pool, reading in the hammocks, exploring the beach. This really is one of a kind trip. Will , no doubt , do it again. Great hosts and support staff.

We discovered Cayman Brac in the mid 90's and have made our annual family retreat/diving vacation there annually ever since. We initially stayed at Divi Tiara, which was nice but not ideal for our family gatherings. We've since experimented with various home rentals, some OK, some not so good but a couple years ago we finally found our dream home away from home at Shane Timothy's Garden Estates and will never stay anywhere else but with Shane. Typically 6-8 in our group, Garden Estates is perfect - a large beautiful house and guesthouse on a huge quiet private property surrounded by beautiful gardens and trees with a long stretch of private beach. The grounds are vast with various places to hang out and shaded hammocks all over. The pool is great to cool off in the day and perfect at night with mood lighting. Four of us shore dive almost every day and everyone snorkels. The Brac is perfect for both. One very convenient bonus of staying at Garden Estates is that Shane provides diving and snorkel gear - including tanks! No having to track down tanks at the local dive shop. No having to lug around so much diving and snorkel equipment in our luggage. Plenty of water toys for the pool and ocean too. Very nice! The house has a beautiful modern kitchen, granite counters, stainless steel appliances (wow, the fridge is always totally stocked!) and we find ourselves staying in and cooking big meals for the group most nights in the kitchen and/or on the BBQ. Breakfasts are cool - Shane delivers fresh laid organic eggs from his own chickens, and organic fruit from his farm a few miles away. mmm Papaya, Pineapple Mango, Banana!! Shane is always a great host and lines up activities like fishing and boat-diving and keeps us informed of local events. Seriously, I could go on for a long time. I really have experienced nothing comparable to Garden Estates in Cayman Brac and highly recommend it. We will be back again.. and again!

Our group consists of 4 couples and we had plenty of room and privacy. Snorkeling and diving from the beach was great. Good clarity, great reefs, and lots of fish life. With the help of Shane (owner) we knew our way to all the local fun bar/restaurants, grocery & liquor stores, and the best dive sites. Shane insured that we had absolutely anything and everything we needed 24/7. We took a cooler full of meat with us to the island. Big hint! This is permitted if all meat or foods are in their original package. Also, the pool area and pool house were an added bonus. After late nights the many hammocks were frequented by all of us the following day. A blissful way to recharge your battery.

Our family stayed here for two weeks last August and loved every minute of it. Shane is the quintessential host. Our every need was taken care of. The estate is absolutely beautiful. We were there with our grandchilddren, son & daughter-in-law, and son-in-law. The g-kids loved swimming in the pool and playing in the ocean. They really enjoyed the hide-n-seek games they played at night in the "jungle" that also has a pool table right in the middle of it "outside." The pig and chickens thrilled them. The adult crew dived 2-3 times a day without ever getting on an expensive diving boat. They reached the sunken ship easily and were just enthralled with the different diving sites. The house is beautiful, roomy, and with large rooms. The kitchen was well stocked & we had everything we needed. It's truly the best place to stay on the island. Since this was our first trip out of the states we were pretty shocked at the high cost of groceries, gas, car rental, etc. But in retrospect it was all worth it. The views are just unbelievable.

Cayman Brac was recommended as a diver's paradise "under the radar" by someone I met diving in Hawaii last year. Thanks to VRBO, I found Shane's cool house and me and my wife, and 3 other couples headed down for some great times and diving. As it turned out, Cayman Brac was even better than I expected. A very quiet tropical paradise with few tourists and very nice locals. Shane and Johanna made life real easy for us by directing us to the best shore diving sites and where to get tanks. They also arranged a boat to take us over to nearby Little Cayman for a day trip which included diving, lounging on an isolated beautiful beach, snorkelling and fishing! One of the highlights of our trip. Shane and Johanna were great hosts making sure we were well taken care of. They took us out to dinner, watch a live band, and some of the places to hang out in the evenings. Shane's house was great - what a great setting right on the ocean on a large cool designed property. Lounging in the hammocks in the relaxing ocean breeze with a Corona in hand… Perfect for our group of 8. One couple stayed in the beach house beside the pool. Some nights we stayed in and cooked feasts (perfect kitchen for it!) and other nights we went to the local eateries like Captain's Table and Brac Reef. The fresh laid eggs from Shane's chicken coup, freshly picked mango and papaya in the morning were a very nice touch!!! Anyway, the best vacation house I ever rented by far. Everyone had a memorable time. We will be back next summer for sure. Highly recommended. Thanks Shane and Johanna!

This beautiful estate, the amazing island and its people, and our fabulous host Shane were all above and beyond what our group expected to find on our spring break vacation in Cayman Brac! After we missed our connection from Grand Cayman because bad weather back home delayed our departure, Shane was kind enough to make two trips to the airport to meet us on Saturday! From that moment on, he was a great host making sure we had everything we needed for a perfect week, even taking us on an exciting tour of the island. He was always just a phone call away! The various activities available on the island kept our energetic friends busy swimming, snorkeling, bike riding, and exploring caves while the rest of the group relaxed around the pool and enjoyed the many hammocks on the property. The restaurants in the area (The Alexander and Brac Reef) offered delicious meals and Shane brought fresh Grouper from one of the local fishermen one evening. Our group of nine had plenty of room to be together and the property was large enough to enjoy a little solitude when desired. Cayman Brac is a laid back island and the people are warm and friendly. The sunrises and sunsets are breathtaking! Shane's place is a magnificent retreat that provided memories our group will remember for a lifetime. I cannot say enough good things about this place or the kindness and hospitality shown us before, during and even after our stay. You must see and experience it yourself to fully appreciate it!!

The Garden Estate is immaculate. Swimming pool area is a perfect setting for any time of the day or night. Would be perfect for a destination wedding. Beautiful tropical plants, flowers, and trees all over the estate. Everything is clean and well maintained. Perfect for just a romantic couple (like us), 5-6 couples, or 3-4 families. Not sure where to begin because we had so many new and interesting experiences; fresh eggs/fruit left at our doorstep, grilling fresh caught Grouper, feeding Oatmeal the pig our daily compost (sorry for calling you a pig Oatmeal), petting Shane’s cattle and hearing their names, having Roosters/chickens/chicks following you, seeing the parrots, iguanas, brown booby birds and their all white chicks, walking through Shane’s amazing collection of fruit trees, diving at Radar Reef and seeing a turtle and the dolphin statue led by Shane (that day was the pinnacle of our Brac experience), listening to Shane discuss his Eco-friendly development which is amazing..........all of this was possible because of Shane and Johanna’s unbelievable hospitality and sharing this remarkable beach home. As a host; Shane & Johanna, are way over the top with regard to accommodating their guests. We have stayed at many VRBO’s; Cabo, Costa Rica, Key West, Napa, etc. and all have been fantastic, but Shane & Johanna’s personal touch to our Cayman Brac experience is second to none. Would we go again? We are already planning our next trip to The Garden Estate at The Brac to visit our new friends. Regards, Wannabe Brackers from Chicago CK²

Shane & Johanna are remarkable host & hostess. Their hospitality is truly above & beyond. We stayed at their home for 2 weeks. It is easily the nicest place we've stayed at in the Caribbean. The vacation was remarkable. This was a reunion for both sides of the family. At any time there were 10 of us on the estate with a total 15 cycling thru over the 14 days. All of were astounded with the location. The layout of the house is amazing; there are several places for groups to hangout as well a numerous places to be alone with a book. There are hammocks everywhere for relaxing siestas in the shade. We made daily use of the large pool area as well as walks on the beach where we only saw each another, stunning scenery & island wild-life. Groups of us went snorkelling daily at different locations; all were spectactular. Many went biking, hiking, & investigated several caves around the island. The Estate has all kind of entertainment, board games, a sand vollyball/badmitton/boche ball court, various decks; table tennis among palm trees, a selection of floaties & snorkel gear, a few bikes & much more. The kitchen is top-notch & was stocked when we arrived including with a couple chilled bottles of wine. The snack bar sat all us. Shane met us at the airport & helped us with our luggage. He also arranged to get us fresh fish from local fisherman. Over the past 20 years we have visited many holiday locations, usually different spots. Shane & Johanna's Garden Estate is one we'll vacation at again.

We stayed at the home from January 14-21st of this year, and we cannot say enough about what a beautiful location/property this is! It is a huge property with a neighboring property on only one side and miles and beautfiul beach on the other. The home was clean and well stocked with clean linens, beach towels, sunscreen, and basic food items. The home is so spacious with a large kitchen that is perfect for gathering and cooking big meals, and good sized rooms for gathering on both the upper and lower levels. There is also a deck right off the kitchen that is perfect for morning coffee and sunrise views. We had 6 adults and 2 children and we had plenty of room for all of us to be together when we wanted, but also to have our own space as well. The layout of the bedrooms is great with each bedroom having direct access to a bathroom. We spent a great deal of time by the pool on the property during the day to swim, suntan, or lay in the shaded hammock area witha good book. In the evening, we often returned to the pool area to watch the sunset and have a bonfire. The location was also great....close to restaurants, grocery, and liquor stores. We ate at the Palms, Aunt Sha's Kitchen, La Experanza and Captain's Table. We had great food everywhere we went and wonderful service. We also went down the beach to the public beach area for swimming and snorkeling a couple of afternoons. From the ocean front views to the tranquil surroundings to the wonderful local people...it was overall an unforgetable family vacation. We would absolutely recommend this property to anyone who is looking for a memorable vacation for a large group of friends or family.

We have stayed on Cayman Brac several times in the past and keep coming back to this beautiful and peaceful island. But with a family that has grown, we needed more space and we lucky enough to find Shane's house to accommodate us. We are 5 adults and two small children. Our stay at Shane's house was so perfect that we booked another stay almost as soon as we returned home. The property is spacious, private, wonderful for spending time together as a family and also finding quiet, secluded spots to read or nap in one of the many hammocks. Shane and Johanna's hospitality were beyond our expectations; we never expected to have fresh eggs delivered in the morning! Our kids loved Oatmeal the pig, and seeing the chickens running around outside with their chicks. It is now 6 months after our visit and it is still fresh in our memories and we eagerly await our next stay. Thank you to Shane and Johanna!

I can't say enough about how we enjoyed our stay at Shane's beautiful beach estate. We had selected this home for our annual girl's getaway and were so pleasantly surprised with the variety of amenities. We had a fabulous time. The island is quiet and quaint, but very picturesque and the people very friendly. We felt like locals. The property is incredible. Shane and Johanna made sure that we had everything that we needed from the moment we arrived (checked in by phone as needed, etc.) Shane gave us a tour of the property which is a combination of a Caribbean paradise and Amazon rainforest. So cool!! The chickens are more like the property managers, but Oatmeal, the amazing pig, was definitely a highlight!! She even made our calendar that we do from our trip pictures. The house is very spacious and the view from the deck was the perfect lunchtime or sunset dinner setting. My favorite part was the beachfront gazebo hammocks. I could have lived there!! There were so many hammocks spread over the property that I lost count. We didn't utilize the guest house, except for the refrigerator for poolside cooling, since there were only 4 of us, but both houses could easily accomodate multiple families. The kitchen was incredibly well-stocked and we took Johanna's recommendation and had Anu, the chef, come in for two evening meals. They were delicious. We often talk about how great that food was. The water was a little rough when we were there (November 2010) so we didn't get to snorkel as much as we would have liked, but that just gave us more poolside time!! I enjoyed the video arcade as I am "old school" when it comes to video games (no hand-held for me!!) The downstairs bar area is a great place to gather, watch movies, etc. We thoroughly enjoyed Shane's tour of the parrott reserve. So unique!! All in all a perfect vacation!!

We spent the weekend here with our three children, and what a lovely getaway it was! Shane and Johanna were incredibly accommodating. They went out of their way to make sure we had everything we needed, including things for the kids to do on their own. The fridge was stocked on arrival, so we didn't have to go directly to the store. We were able to lounge around while the kids went exploring on the beach. The house had everything one could imagine and then some. We will definitely head back the next chance we get!

Shane and Johanna are amazing!!! We were two families ( Moms) traveling together sans husbands ( most of the time) with a total of 7 kids for 5 WEEKS! The house had PLENTY of room, not to mention the wonderful grounds! The pool is very accomodating to these numbers as well. Although we couldn't have swam laps ( nor did we want to!) It was so much fun with all of us in the pool. We had never been to these islands before, and were concerned with what activities we could do with the kids, but Shane showed us all the spots for snorkeling, and even taught us how to scuba dive in the pool! The boys were especially pleased with the bat caves (although the girls could have done without it). There were hermit crabs everywhere, which the kids gathered every day and released at night. My youngest woke up everyday and collected chicken eggs, and was all too happy to offer his services feeding the pig scrap vegetables. The island was so safe, and so beautiful, that we even took up running so we could see it all! Arnell, who minds the property, was also very kind. He helped us set up our volleyball net, tied extra hammocks on the porches, and even brought us coconuts from the trees. Shane brought fresh fruit, vegetables, and lemon grass. He really took care of all of us. (It was amost like our husbands were there!) The beach is literally feet from the house and the sun sets are to die for. But if you really want to experience, have Shane prepare his famous Cocunut Thai soup for you!! The kids are still asking, "When are we going back to Shane's house?"

Shane went well above and beyond what was listed in his ad. Most places you arrive and get less than expected, well that's not the case here. The house has everything you'll need and Shane's by far the best host we've met yet in our travels. Some key things: 1. On arrival our luggage didn't make it on the puddle jumper... and wasn't going to be in until the jet arrived at 9PM. Shane picked it up for us and brought it by the house when it arrived. 2. The house is fully equipped with everything (spices, stocked fridge, cooking utinsels, pans, coffee, tea, arcade, tv's, dvd's, snorkeling equipment, bikes, floats, on and on) 3. If Shane's on the island I'm sure he'd be glad to show you around and point out the key spots (caves, reefs, trails, etc.) 4. Unless the schedule changes the Blue hut beside the Market has some great Jerk Chicken every Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday... Tuesdays behind the Alexander hotel has a great all you can eat bar-b-que (steak, sausage, chicken, salad, sides) OR, just grill out at the house. 5. Travel around the island and see/meet the people... Make a fire on the iron shore in the evening out by one of the reefs.... Go see the blow holes down at the end of the southside road on the west end of the island (it's a short walk off the end of the road)... Have fun! 5 STARS...

Shane, the house and property exceeded our expectations. We had an awesome time and we appreciate how much you went out of your way to make sure that we had what we needed to make our stay enjoyable. You directed us to the best snorkling sites, restaurants, and boat captain. Couldn't ask for a better setting with the wildlife on the property. The house is conveniently located to everywhere you need to be however a car is recommended. The only drawback was the rocky shoreline, but that appeared to be everywhere along the shore line and did not dampen our fun. I would definitely recommend this property to anybody wishing to stay on the Brac.

This outstanding residence exceeded our expectations. The house and grounds are beautiful. It was so nice in fact that it was difficult to pull our group of six away from the pool to go explore the island. The house was appointed with attention to detail and Shane could not have been more accommodating in making sure we had everything we needed during our stay. Dinners on the deck while viewing the sunset were amazing. We made good use of the BBQ and loved the gourmet kitchen. Between the main house and the completely self contained pool house we found that there was more than enough room for the six of us. This estate is an unbelievable bargain for all that is offered and I have already recommended this place to many of my friends.

We had a great time. The house is perfect. It is in a perfect location. We were a group of 2 families, 4-kids, 4-adults & had plenty of space. We were there for 1 week & did not see anyone walk past the house on the beach even once. It is complete seclusion. House was beautiful, arcade was great for the kids, kitchen was in great shape, as were the bedrooms, basically everything. Oatmeal the 200 lb hog was a hoot for the kids, as were the chickens that come with fresh eggs. The island is so small there isn't a drive longer than 10 minutes to get anywhere. All restarants, grocery stores, scuba diving, hiking, etc....were all close & easy to find. Shane was great, very helpful & a gracious host. We would most certainly return. Pool was great. Only complaint was the beach is pretty rocky, I think the hurricanes took away much of the soft white sand. Otherwise, 10/10 on everything else.

Shane, just a quick note to thank you for allowing us to stay at your property during our 2 week stay on Cayman Brac. Your home is beautiful and the location could not be better. The Island is rockier than other places we have visited, but there were a couple of nice sandy beaches. My kids loved the video arcade game you had downstairs and the hours of snorkeling in the crystal clear waters. Only disappoinment was in the amount of trash that was washed up on shore, does not seem right that such a beautiful place should be subject to others careless practices. I enjoyed the relaxed atmoshere, the friendliness of the people and how safe we felt while on the Brac. Please thank your staff who knocked themselves out trying to make our stay as pleasant as possible. Please feel free to give a prospect my number should they wish to speak to a past renter.

My husband and I are always looking for quiet places "far from the maddening crowds" and found one on Cayman Brac...lots of sun, sea and lodging with all (actually more!) amenities of home....and no crowds! Our host, Shane, was wonderful. When we arrived sans bags, he immediately went into action and we had them the next day. He even went out of his way to bring a few sundries that evening to tide us over. He also gave us a very informative tour of the island, pointing out all the great places to snorkel, hike and go caving. The house is beautiful with lots of tile and attention to detail everywhere you look. It would make a great family reunion destination with lots of room to spread out. The kitchen was well stocked so that it made cooking in easy. several times we met the local fisherman at the docks and cooked fish over the open fire pit. The resident "pets" are a delight! We actually got to see a chicken lay an egg (had some for breakfast too). We had planned to go diving but the water was so crystal clear that we just stuck to shorkeling...some of the best was just off our own private beach! The sea in our own back yard, shelling on beach walks, reading in a hammock...we would go back in a flash. Thanks Shane for sharing your wonderful home with us.

The house was everything the website implies and much more. Luxurious, comfortable and tranquil. We (two families) had a wonderful 10 days. Shane was very welcoming and helpful. His assistance added considerably to a fabulous experience. The island itself is a return to a simpler, more peaceful time and the Brackers were very friendly and made us feel like guests, not tourists. I would recommend this island and this property to anyone, anytime.
