ART FILLED CONTEMPORARY BEACH HOUSE IN LA BARRA
Just minutes from the sea, this light filled contemporary home with balconies and terraces off every room has four bedrooms all with en-suite bathrooms, a large open plan living room/dining room with a fireplace and glass and granite kitchen with a dining deck.
Art is the owner’s passion reflected in the furnishings, paintings and design of the house. Overlooking a lush garden and private deck, the living room with a wood burning fireplace, cushioned wicker furniture and Japanese styled table lit by an antique Venetian chandelier creates a mood of casual elegance.
The second floor master bedroom suite with its own front balcony with another wood burning fireplace and large back deck overlooking the surrounding pine woods, has a king size bed, dressing room, massive shower, jacuzzi tub and separate WC. The other three bedrooms, one on the first floor, the two others on the ground floor have en-suite bathrooms and private decks. Each is decorated with ethnic Guatemalan fabrics.
Built in 2006, the house includes a fully equipped kitchen with a gas stove, electric oven, refrigerator, dishwasher and washing machine. The dining deck has a large “parilla” the Uruguayan grille for tasty barbecues. Maid service is available.
La Barra is a small community 15 minutes away from the heart of Punta del Este, 45 minutes from the local airport, one hour and a half from Montevideo. Known for its eclectic shops, restaurants, bars and discos, it is the art center of the area. Fashionable Jose Ignacio is a further half hour down the coast. For us, La Barra is in the best position between the big town life in Punta and the laid back beach lifestyle along the coast.

Why the Owner Chose Punta del Este
While vacationing in South America we visited Punta del Este and realized that we had found the perfect location for a winter retreat. Frequently called the St. Tropez of South America we enjoyed the international mix of cultures, the art galleries, concerts and miles of white sand beaches. As a holiday resort the area caters to a high standard of traveler with many upscale boutiques and world class restaurants at South American prices. Our days are spent lazing on the beach with a good book, then venturing out late, late at night as the locals do to sample the wines of Argentina, Chile and Uruguay along with the world renown beef of the area. Discos stay open until dawn and then it's back to the beach. The lifestyle is like no other and a welcome relief from North American and European winters.

This was our first trip to Uruguay and we did not know what to expect. Arkacita exceeded our wildest dreams. A perfect house for ourselves and three children. The top floor master suite was spacious, romantic and very private. Each of the kids could have their own rooms with their own bathrooms, something they do not have at home. We love La Barra and appreciated all of the notes and suggestions the owners provided. Victoria & Hugo, the local agents, were great in making sure we were headed in the right direction to enjoy everything the area has to offer. We highly recommend Punta del Este/La Barra to anyone wanting to experience a true South American beach holiday with all the trimmings.
Recommended for:Age 55+, pet owners, adventure seekers, sightseeing, people with disabilities, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, families with young children.
