Stepping out of a narrow, winding street in the heart of Pernes you find yourself in a scene from the Arabian Nights-or might it be Petarch? An enclosed courtyard holds a spring fed pool, a wide terrace, greenery galoore, a wooden pergola, romantic lighting: poetry that on a warm summer's night would melt the heart of the toughest pragmatist. From here into the 21st century: a cool haven of space with an airy feel, a minimalist decor, earth colours, natural fabrics, and plain good taste.

Quirky touches too. You'll want to stay a while to experience both world's the ice-cube lamps against old stonework, the Art Deco style and the abstract art. Comfortable bedrooms have quiet style, the excellent kitchen has an extraordinary quantity of of crockery, cutlery, platters and baskets, and the living area's 30's style leather sofas open arms to a superior music system: the owner is a professional trombonist.

Fine dining, festivals great and small, history, art and winegrowers are all around you. beautifully converted 18th Century stone barn situated in a typically Provencal village in the heart of the Vaucluse.

La Saga is a very large converted barn situated in the ancient village of Pernes Les Fontaines. The house is entered through a gate from a typically old narrow street in the village. A stunning courtyard with a swimming pool is overlooked by the 3 storey house.

The house has been designed for enjoyment and indulgence. The floors are traditional stone throughout and there is electric central heating.

This is an ideal house for you to unwind from the fast pace of your professional lives or indeed for a more mature group of people to spend time enjoying the surroundings of the Vaucluse and Luberon countryside and relaxing around the pool. It is a perfect place from which to explore the surrounding ancient cities and indulge in the cultural events of Provence.

Year Purchased: 2002

About the owner: I am a professional trombonist working in the field of pop and TV and film in London. I am a big fan of Earth Wind and Fire and I run my own band playing their music. I have put some of my old instruments on the walls in the house and the CD and DVD cupboards are full of Movies and Albums that I have performed on. There is also about 70 or so cookbooks in an other cupboard as I believe music and food are made for each other. I now believe that music food and France are made for each other!

Why the Owner Chose Pernes-Les-Fontaines:
I first travelled to the area in 2000 on holiday and fell in love with it. I kept returning to try and find my ideal home. In 2003 after seeing many different properties by chance I came across La Saga. The house had been lovingly converted restored and modernized from an old sheep barn. The previous owner was an architect so the design and layout was all done to a very high standard. I came over from England with a car full of Farrow and Ball paint in all my favourite colors and decided to put my stamp on the house. I still change things every time I visit and my home is a passion for me. After many trips to the area I decided that I really wanted to stay here as much as I could.
