Cottage on the Bay, Peaceful
- Minimum stay:N/A
- Internet:Yes
- Pets allowed:Yes
- Wheel chair accessible:No
Sleeping arrangements: One double bed in master bedroom with jetted tub, two single beds, one comfy couch.
Other stuff: Island-studded sparkling lapis-blue waters are only the beginning of the incredible scenery that surround this sweet little cottage. Sun-drenched summer swoops in with eagles, osprey, kingfishers and seagulls to welcome you. Winter settles in with steely grays and cold flip-flops of resident seals.
This tidy little cottage sits on a medium-bank waterfront lot, with one quiet neighbor to the north and a vacant lot to the south. Summertime brings families with smores, couples looking for a new place to add to 'Best Places to Kiss', fresh crab and seafood from the local market. Outdoor cooking never tasted so good.
From the kitchen, dining area and living room in the downstairs, all rooms offer stunning waterfront views. Upstairs the master bedroom with it's own private Jacuzzi and balcony also overlook the bay. Each room is cozy: the living room with its own local-artist painted mural and entertainment center to the kitchen bar where you can hang out watching the cook. Some of the artwork is for sale. The living room has a wood-burning stove with a glass door for chilly evenings (you can purchase wood in town at Pioneer Market) - or wrap up in a warm blanket by the outdoor fire pit.
From the front door, walk north or south for a walk down the road (watch out for local people walking their dogs - all eager to tell you about this place), just off of infamous Pull & Be Damned Road or head down to the beach for miles and miles of beach combing. Children and pets are welcome but they must be supervised at all times. Owner is not responsible for injurys.

Tulip Festival Weekend

We stayed here to take in the Tulip Festival in La Conner. The house looks out on a great ocean with what turned out to be front row seats to fantastic sunsets. The accommodations were excellent with regards to Kitchen, Bedrooms, Master bathroom. The living room has a great wood stove though you have to pick up your own wood from the local store in La Conner.Recommended for: Sightseeing, people with disabilities, age 55+, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.
Owner response: Thank you Doug for your lovely comment. Sometimes we have such great guests I wish there was someway to post our comments on you so other owners can see them... but no way to do that right now. I will make it a point to post on the site about the wood; there is usually some there, but we don't stock it. Do come back and see us again - the woods on us! Judy

Very nice hideaway for 2 or more. The good news is that the location is ideal and quiet, and the unit facilities are, generally, more than you might expect ... good value for sure. The unit does not have a water tank: it has an "on-demand" hot water system. And it is excellent! The tub is huge and the size would normally empty any hot water tank. Not so with the on-demand system. The kitchen is well equipped (although some of the condiments are well past their best before date ... a small thing, but when you are only visiting for a couple of days, most rentals offer condiments). You are directly on the water, and the sunsets are spectacular. The entire place is quite bright with lots of windows. And it is much larger than you would expect ... lots of room to spread out. The TV in the master doesn't work properly, but you are coming to watch TV! The fire pit is excellent and makes for a nice evening. And the BBQ works perfectly. There are apparently no screens. Although when we visited you don't need to worry about the heat, during summer months you might want doors and windows open, and I am sure the bugs would be a problem without screens.Personally I would not go in summer unless screens were added. We found sleeping with the patio door open was very nice. A fresh breeze and the sound of the water ... without screens you would be eaten alive by the mosquitoes during summer months I am sure. Overall, I highly recommend this unit. As I mentioned, very good value for the money.Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, age 55+, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.
Owner response: Thank you for such a lovely review. We will be installing more screens for summer. Hope to see you again! Mgt.

My daughter and I had a lovely relaxing time at the cottage in March. We had some chilly windy weather but the cabin was cozy. Next time we will bring some presto logs for the fire, both inside and out and a kayak to paddle out to the island just a bit out into the bay. You couldn't ask for a more quiet serene atmosphere. Good walks on the beach and trips into La Conner and Anacortes for lunch and shopping.Recommended for: Age 55+, pet owners, romantic getaway, families with young children.

The cabin was very nice and homey! While we didn't get to enjoy much of the beach or fire pit as it was raining the entire time we were there, the view was amazing! We loved loved loved the giant jetted bathtub. Perfect for the cold evenings and mornings and afternoons, lol. We enjoyed massages in the comfort of the cabin, which were setup for us by the owner. We are definitely planning a return trip in the summer. It was perfect for a little weekend getaway and would also be nice for an extended stay.Recommended for: Sightseeing, age 55+, families with teenagers, pet owners, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.

My 81 year old mother and I sank right into this lovely property. The cottage is clean, bright and provides a lovely view of the water. My mom needed a respite break (she cares for my hospice assisted father 24/7), and this little cottage was purrfect for her. We could go into La Conner for lunch; come back for a nap and then go back into town. Other: o The kitchen well designed and has newer appliances. o The mattresses are very comfortable o The orange cat from next door was a big plus. He came by the back porch every day between 11 am - noon for petting and head scratches. After about 15 minutes he would just hang out on the porch. Then he would go out front, check out the street and sit on the front porch. A true creature of habit. o The one way street is a smart idea We would definitely stay here again if we do another short hop to La Conner.Recommended for: Sightseeing, people with disabilities, age 55+, families with teenagers, pet owners, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.

My girlfriend and I stayed at the Cottage for three weeks in August. It was a perfect place to relax after many weeks of fishing in Alaska, quiet and very clean. The kitchen had everything we needed (and yes, the coffee pot was new) – pots, pans, two sets of dishes, plenty of silverware, paper towels – just everything. We walked the beach for hours, barbequed, read books and watched t.v. with a fire in the stove. The master bed was comfortable – we would wake in the morning and watch the sunshine hit the islands on the bay, drinking coffee. We’ll be back next year. Thank you so much.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

kitchen was not clean on arrival; coffee pot needs replacing; no dishwasher; porch needed tidying; view is excellent; solitude is excellent; pots and pans are excellent; bed linens and coverings are out of the depression.Recommended for: Sightseeing, age 55+, pet owners.
Owner response: I stopped by the house just before you checked in to see that it was ready. I agree the coffee pot needs to be replaced. I had already made a mental note of that. The microwave, fridge, and toaster had all been disinfected. I did not check the dishes in the cupboard, and will put that on the housekeepers list. There is no dishwasher, you are correct, we do not advertise that there is one on VRBO. The linens and coverings are from Ikea. We will be replacing them at the end of the season. The deck is being refinished this fall. We appreciate all comments from our guests so that we may better serve the next guest. Thank you and have a lovely day.

We enjoyed three wonderful nights at Cottage on the Bay! We'd stayed on San Juan Island before in another VRBO home but there was nothing available in our price range and preferences this time of year. So, when looking around, I found this in La Conner and after our time here have come to believe not finding anything around Friday Harbor was a complete stroke of luck! This is a charming cabin, private but not remote, with a spectacular view of Skagit Bay and fantastic sunsets! It's less than a 10 minute drive from the town of La Conner, with lots of great restaurants (some right on the water) and shops. The cabin features all the amenities we could ask for: TV/DVD/CD players; high-speed wi-fi; a wood-burning stove along with electric heat; a gas barbecue outside for cooking the freshly caught salmon and a full kitchen inside. The house is directly above the beach so we could walk down and watch the tide ebb and return. (The beach is all rock though so don't plan on building sand castles.) The Master Bedroom upstairs is small but very cozy with a walk-in closet and sliding door to a deck for watching the moonlight on the Bay! The Master Bath features both a shower AND a huge two-person Jacuzzi tub! There's another bedroom with two twins on the ground floor for kids or other guests. I HIGHLY recommend this to anyone looking for a fabulous getaway and we WILL be back!Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, pet owners, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.

Great family get away! The beach was very fun to explore and with views from every room it didn't matter when it rained! We loved the wood stove for extra coziness! The kids are begging to go back! We enjoyed it so much we found it a bit difficult to want to sight see in town! We did manage to go into La Conner and had a great meal as well as viewed the beautiful tulip fields!Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, people with disabilities, age 55+, families with teenagers, pet owners, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.

The neighborhood was super quiet and the people were friendly. I will definitely go back. Thank you for a great time.Recommended for: Sightseeing, pet owners, romantic getaway, girls getaway.
