Featured in the NY Times, Wall Street Journal, SF Chronicle, Sonoma Index Tribune, Pottery Barn, Williams Sonoma and Pendleton Woolen Mills catalogs, this antique, post and beam timber frame barn has been transported to California's enchanting Sonoma wine country from the east coast. Originally built in 1840, this solid oak and hemlock barn has been completely restored and transformed into a warm and welcoming home. A video is available on Pottery Barn website-under Videos-"Where I Live"
Relaxed yet sophisticated in style, the property pays tribute to America's vernacular barn heritage with its rustic and expansive 30 foot high great room, exposed barn wood, light filled cupola, wide plank flooring, 10 foot wide door and window openings, and wood burning fireplace. A 30 foot tall aluminum silo houses the spiral staircase to the 600 square foot master bedroom and library loft. Open kitchen, with fully integrated built in appliances, stone countertops, farm sink, Viking range and 9 x 4 foot island. Two bedrooms and baths with king size beds in both. The master bedroom and loft is open to below, while the downstairs bedroom has sliding barn doors for privacy.
Light filled, historic, and filled with character, this environmentally sensitive structure utilizes solar panels, radiant heat, and natural ventilation. Built with structurally insulated panels, the 8 and 10 inch walls maintain constant temperatures throughout the summer and winter months. With western vineyard and pasture views, once inside you are engulfed in the historic, agrarian roots of the structure set amongst a magnificent 150 year old oak tree. Enjoy seasonable herbs and vegetables in the garden, as well as the cooling Carneros summer breezes.
Situated on 3 acres, the home is located just 45 minutes from the Golden Gate Bridge, and 10 minutes south of the historic Sonoma plaza. It is perfectly situated for wine tasting and tours of both Napa and Sonoma counties, as well as easy shopping or dining among Sonoma's award winning restaurants. Enjoy!

Antique Restored Barn from 1840 !!
Year Purchased: 2006
Why the Owner Chose Sonoma
Having been born and raised in the Bay Area, Sonoma was the perfect setting for an agrarian structure like a barn.
Owner's Map of Sonoma
First of its kind in northern California, this barn home is a culmination of years of dreaming and planning. I always wanted to live in a barn, and this project made that dream come true. It is an open floor plan, which is great for entertaining, and an historic living space unlike any you have seen here in California! You will love waking up every morning amongst the light filled rustic beams and imagining the 175 years of American history... if those beams could talk!!
