  I rented this house even though there was a bad review writen by a previous renter. I don't know what he expected, but I was very happy with the house.It was spacious, clean and well equiped, even linens were supplied.It has a large deck to lounge on and is in a great location, close to ocean, bay and ponds.I plan to rent this coming summer as soon as I have my vacation schedule.

  Recommended for: Age 55+, tourists without a car, pet owners, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, sightseeing.

  We are a 3-generational family with kids now 7 and 8. We've been renting from Carole for years, and her house is our home on the Cape. The kids talk about Wellfleet(Carole's house in the woods) all year. From here we have a pleasant walk to a great pond, bike rides to a great bakery or to swim - all WITHOUT crossing Rte. 6 .The children love to play outside, especially on the rope swing, and to help water the shrubs. No noisy neighbors or traffic. I leave my Laser sailboat on Mayo beach and can get there by bike - great sailing and kayaking around the estuaries of Wellfleet Harbor. This is not a House and Gardens MacMansion - although the spacious A-frame living room with floor-to-ceiling view in to the woods is lovely. One year there may be a jammed window, but on the other hand we don't need to worry if the kids sometimes spill(floor tile is easy-clean, and Carole feels like family...the early years she even provided child seats and toys!) Wellfleet is the BEST with kids: the Drive-In movie, the restaurants with outdoor seating on the harbor, the skate park and huge playground and free tennis courts in town, the many ponds and beaches, especially great ones for toddlers on Long Pond, or town swim lessons for school kids. We all love our yearly all-family canoe outings with picnic, on calm ponds and in Wellfleet's estuary.

  Recommended for: Romantic getaway, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway.

  I would never,ever reccomend this house to anyone. Upon arrival the house was locked with no info about keys. I called the owner, who told where the emergency key was located. Upon inspecting the house it was apparent it had not been cleaned. There was also a strong musty/mildew smell throughout the house. There were no sheets for the beds. I called the owner again to inform of the condition of the house. She stated she would send the cleaning person over immediately. We waited patiently for the cleaning person to arrive. At 9:30 P.M. that night no one showed. I found the washer and dryer in the basement with sheets and towels partially completed. We were in the process of making the beds and found spots and stains on the comforters. All the beds on the second floor were mattresses on homemade platforms that did not fit the mattresses. The mattresses all smelled musty. Everyone was totally grossed out. We down clean sheets and slept on top of the clean sheet with our clothes on. I decided to take a shower before trying to sleep. The shower was in the most gross condition I had ever seen. The bottom of the shower curtain was covered with slime and black mold. I decided to forgo the shower. I took a shower outdoors in the morning, which was not much better. In the morning we had planned to cook breakfast at the house. All of the dishes were spotted and/or dirty. We went to a local resturant for breakfast. The owner was called several time before there was a response. She was not apologetic at all and seemed upset with me for complaining of the condition. It was explained that the cleaning person still had not shown up to clean. I mentioned the black mold that was found in the bathroom, in the kitchen on the frig, counter tops, and the musty/mildew smell. The owner was told we were considering leaving the house due to health risk of the black mold. She stated she would have the cleaning person at the house in 20 minutes. The cleaning person showed up 3 hours later. She cleaned the bathroom and the mold from ther frig. She stated she would have to take the shower curtain home to clean properly. We decided to leave the house and found a motel with vacancies. I talked with the owner about a refund of our money for the days not used. I asked her to pro-rate which was more than fair. She stated she would refund 20% of the rental cost. This seemed to be SCAM. I hope this review is read.

  Owner response: This renter would not be welcome in our home again as he tried to get his money back because of bad weather! He admitted to forgetting his allergy medicine and the weather was rainy and overcast. He stayed three days and had more guests than we contracted and smoking which was reported by our cleaners. We have NO mold or mildew and our cleaning people went back and re-did a shower curtain because of his constant complaints. We even refunded part of his money as he continue to complain about non-existent issues. We have been renting to satisfied guests for over 20 years and this is the first incident we have had to deal with. you will find our home clean, convenient to beaches and at a great price! carole and joe
