Woodland Park cabin description
Welcome to Nank's Bluff
We are putting the cabin up for sale. So for the time being we are not taking reservations. The cabin will go up for sale the 1st of April. If you are interested the price will be around $150,000 we are not exactly sure on the price. The property is located in Jefferson county in Colorado on the Platte river. It is very rare to find available property on the river. The cabin will be sold with all of the furniture, linens, cooking utensils, dinnerware, BBQ grills, and other contents.
The 1927 cabin sits on a bluff over looking the Gold Medal Waters of the South Platte River. The cabin has private stairs down to a patio on the rivers edge. The property has 105 feet of river front and a grassy bank to land that big fish, kayaks or just enjoy yourself in the peace and tranquility of the river and wildlife.
There is a nice big area for outdoor cooking and sitting around the firepit on the bluff while you watch the river and wildlife. Amoung the wildlife to be viewed are many species of birds; hummingbirds, nuthatchers, swallows, ducks, mergansers, wild turkeys, blue heron and the best the magnificent bald eagles. White tail and mule deer graze along the river banks regularly and sometimes a black bear.Nank's Bluff is located 300'+ from the nearest road, Hwy 67, which is just a small two lane road. To get to the cabin from Denver go to Sedalia and take Hwy 67 to the southwest 26 miles, from Colorado Springs go to Woodland Park and take Hwy 67 north 24 miles. The cabin is located in the old town of Trumbull 1 mile north of Deckers on Hwy 67.
Deckers' has amenities such as Flies and Lies where you can get all of your fishing supplies, clothing and guide trips. The Deckers Store has convenient items that you may have forgotten, there is also a Liquor store, Deli and Bar.
Restaurants can be found in Pine, west on Hwy 126 and in Woodland Park south on Hwy 67. The 18 hole Shinning Mountain Golf course is in Woodland Park along with all kinds of shopping; chain grocery stores to western store, jewelry and antiques. Other features in Woodland Park are a movie theater and the Dinosaur Museum. Historic Cripple Creek is an hour and a half away with high stakes gambling.

Peaceful, Private Retreat
Peaceful, Private Retreat
My husband, an avid fly fisherman, and I spent 4th of July at Nank's Bluff with our two dogs. We had a spectacular time! The cabin is older but very clean and well maintained. It had everything we needed including tubes for floating on the river! We truly enjoyed the private riverside patio. It was so secluded and peaceful to sit and catch some rays during the day while my husband fished just a few feet away, or sip a glass of wine at night and listen to the river while star gazing. This place truly is a gem. We hope to come back again every year!

Everything you need-- nothing you don't!
Everything you need-- nothing you don't!
My husband, father-in-law, and I stayed at Nank's Bluff for 2 nights this past weekend and loved it. The house is extremely serviceable and comfortable-- clean linens, towels, basic kitchen ingredients (salt, pepper, flour, aluminum foil, etc.) and appliances (coffee maker, stove top, oven), satellite TV, fans, heaters, extra blankets. The house is a bit old (built in 1927, I believe)-- but everything is in good working condition. The location of the place can't be beat-- just take the steps down to the river to fish (which we did very successfully), or drive up the road about 5 minutes to Cheeseman Canyon and take advantage of the 5 miles of accessible river there. There's a small general store and a fly fishing store in Deckers where you can pick up anything you might have forgotten. The views from the porch and fire circle in front of the house are just beautiful. Since fire danger was low, the owner gave us the green light to have a fire in the fire ring-- we sat out for hours and enjoyed the fire and cooked over it both nights. The owner was also very accommodating about our dog, which we greatly appreciated. We will definitely back and heartily recommend it to anyone looking for a great location, easy access to camping and hiking, and not too far from Denver.

Great little hide-a-way.
Great little hide-a-way.
The owner was very welcoming and answered all our questions before leaving us to enjoy the peace and quiet. Between the singing of the birds, the sound of the river and the beautiful awe-inspiring views no matter which direction you looked, it was hard to spend time indoors. A couple of thunderstorms made the decision for us! Fishing was easily accessible. We spent one day in Woodland Park and Manitou Springs which was a one hour drive through the mountains. The cabin isn't fancy but it was clean and had everything we needed. Decker was a mile walk on the road with a great view of the river. The owners of the stores were very friendly and had everything we needed. A couple of things that might be difficult for some--no Internet access or cell phone service and bringing bottle water was recommended. Lack of communication was refreshing and liberating for us! There was a phone for emergencies and a phone card allowed us to make long-distance calls. The water was expensive to purchase at Deckers but we bought some in Woodland Park which worked great. There really isn't anything for little kids to do so that might be a consideration for families. We had a wonderful time and were sad to leave.

Cabin was great. We fished went river tubing and hiking. The property is beautiful with the mountains and river, the pictures do not show the true beauty. On the river you have your own private space with a patio and a grass area that is nice. Screened in porch was nice and you can still see the river. Very quite and private. Owner very easy to work with and answer any questions you may have quickly. Thanks again Gesche and would love to come back again. PS already have a friend that wants to rent your cabin.

Owner response: I am so please that you and your family enjoyed their stay at Nank's Bluff cabin. Word of mouth is the best advertisement. It was also wonderful that you had such luck fishing. I thank you and look forward to seeing you again.
Me and my husband were looking for a spot to relax and fish for our anniversary and we fount this property on home away. The owners were very prompt responding to our request and we had it booked in no time. The area is so beautiful and the views from the cabin are spectacular! We took a drive down the road the cabin was on and it follows alongside the river with many places to fish or take pictures. The river is much larger than it looks in the pics and they have a perfect spot to sit and listen to the water. The gas grill was ready to go when we arrived and the kitchen has everything you will need. There are even some basic spices. I really enjoyed the screened in porch with a bench seat. I sat and enjoyed the view for hours. The people at the little store nearby are super friendly and helpful. I have to say that this was one of our most enjoyable vacations, the owners are so kind and helpful and the cabin is perfect! We will definitely be back! Thank you for helping make our anniversary so enjoyable.

Relaxing-Great fishing and hunting cabin
Relaxing-Great fishing and hunting cabin
I have been coming to Nank's Bluff ever since I came back from Iraq 3 yrs ago. A must stay for the outdoors man. So many opportunities, Nank's Bluff is centrally located on the North Fork, which has some of the best trout fishing in Colorado. The water from the confluence is gin clear and flows right in front of the cabin. I have yet to pull a fish out that was smaller then 14 inches, on my most recent trip I pulled 4 trout all 20 inches, hence the reason why I return several times a year. The rainbow are plentiful, big, very visible with or with out polarized lens and most importantly eager to bite. Be sure to visit Fly's and Ties, the local fly shop located 1/4 mile up the road. There is also a coffee shop, liquor store and small general store that can supply most of your immediate needs. This cabin is also a great hunting lodge. Only a few minutes away from the best Turkey roosting vein in ALL of Colorado. In my opinion the turkey hunting has been essentially untapped, the entrance of Rampart Range, has a lot of birds. Most people over look this area due to the motor cross activities and noise. The birds are not skittish one bit. You can practically walk within 20 yards of them with out them flying away. I have not Deer hunted the area yet, but have seen many great looking Bucks. Most importantly the cabin sits right at the water edge, great for reading a book and passing the day by with friends. I live in Denver and the Cabin is only 1 hr from my house! I recommend this place to all of my friends.

Owner response: If you like this review, Vic also left directions to his favorite fishing hole in the guest book at the cabin. Addditionally, Vic failed to mention that they bagged a turkey, great going guys.

A great cabin with all the accomodations - housewares, toiletries, bedding, satellite TV, and so much more! GREAT fishing 48 steps down on the S. Platte, the CO Trail only 20 minutes away, and "Dott's Park" only 2 minutes away. A wonderful place for family & friends to gather to truly experience this "gem" on the South Platte River! We'll be going back for sure - truly wonderful family friendly fun!

About the owner: Bob and I have lived in this area for 33 years, and have loved every minute. We enjoy fishing, hiking and ATV's in this area we call home. Bob is retired from the Semi conductor business and car racing, and I am a homemaker who loves to cook. We love to travel, finding new and interesting off beat places.
Why the Owner Chose Woodland Park:
It is gorgous, relaxing and peaceful. We just love our cabin and enjoy sharing the fun with others.
The Unique Benefits at this Cabin:
We enjoy relaxing on the bluff, listening and watching the river and wildlife go by fills us with inner-peace an awe. After a day of fun, we BBQ with friends around a campfire overlooking the river. The cabin is very private and when you go down the stairs to the patio on the river's edge you are in your own little sanctuary. This section of South Platte River is renowned for its Gold Medal fishing waters. Besides fishing, we like to go tubing and kayaking, or just sit in a chair in the river with a cooler.
