The Cherokee at Tray Mountain
Intimacy and tranquility awaits you on Tray Mountain. With the spectacular views and rugged southwestern decor you will feel like you are miles and miles away in the mountains of Montana or Colorado. But your only 6 miles from downtown Alpine Helen where you will find German cuisine, specialty shops and attractions.
The Cherokee warms you with its turn of the century architecture and views from historical Tray Mountain.
Tray Mountain is rugged backcountry, located near Helen Georgia, combined with some fine state parks and easy to reach waterfalls and hikes, including the Appalachian Trail. The Tray Mountain area includes unique sites such as the incomparable Ramp Cove, with the finest stand of giant buckeyes in Georgia and a wildflower paradise. Exciting boulderfields are commn here just under the Appalachian Trail and Kelly Ridge. The Kelly Ridge spur provides a superb hike similar to the great Duncan Ridge in the Blood Mountain area. The huge rock outcrop at the Mill Creek Roughs is worth exploring. Tray Mountain itself, with its superlative boulderfield, is one of the major overlooks in the Georgia Blue Ridge. The southern part if this area is the 9,702 acre Tray Mountain Wilderness.
The mountain is referred to by some as the grandstand for viewing the Nantahala Mountains in North Carolina and the rest of the Blue Ridge Mountains in Georgia. The Appalachian Trail crosses over the peak.
Tray Mountain is a mountain summit in Towns County at 4,430 feet, this makes it the 7th highest Georgia Peak.

Helen GA View on map
Nestled in the Blue Ridge Mountains on the Chattahoochee River, this Northeast Georgia village has a rich history linked to the Cherokee Indians and Indian burial mounds as well as early settlers who arrived to mine for gold and cut virgin timber for a thriving lumber industry in the early 1900s. Helen is a re-creation of an alpine village complete with cobblestone alleys and old-world towers. We've got shopping, camping, both rustic and luxury mountain cabins, restaurants, bed and breakfast inns, mountains, theater, recreation, romantic getaways, beautiful scenery, family activities, waterfalls, museums, history, art, fishing, tubing, golf, and more. Something for every member of the family.
