This whimsical and magical log cabin was decorated by a local artist and features the most interesting and unique details throughout. Whether old or young, you will be fascinated by all of the items that adorn this home from the hand-carved monkeys scurrying across the wooden beams to the faux bear-skin rug lounging in the loft to the Rhinoceros watching over his kingdom! There is even a hand-carved five foot tall bear waiting to greet you on the porch when you arrive at Bear Necessities. Each and every nook and cranny is filled with collector pieces that all pertain to the captivating animal theme.

The main floor has only one step from the car into the home for those that need easy accessibility. This level features a large living room with cathedral ceiling and log and chink walls. The 30-foot stacked stone wood burning fireplace is the center piece of the room and a wonderful place for the whole family to gather. The adjoining open kitchen and dining room are also charming and all windows look out onto the view of the lake and surrounding mountains. The upper deck off of this floor has comfortable hand-crafted log seating and a gas grill. This level also has a master bedroom with queen bed, beautiful quilts and more wonderful log furniture. The bath has the animal motif of zebras and bears, and boasts a luxurious whirlpool tub.

Upstairs, the loft has cozy yet spacious sleeping quarters with one double bed, one single bed and its own full bath. The other side of this level serves as the gameroom with foosball table, combination air hockey/ping pong/pool table and cable television with VCR and PlayStation. The large moose on the wall, bear skin rugs and many other magical touches make this the perfect children's area.

The lower level has two more bedrooms as comfortable and fanciful as the rest of the house, one with queen bed and another with one king and one twin. These rooms look out onto the lake and there is a third large bath with easy step-in shower. This level has another deck with large hot tub to relax in and enjoy. This house is great fun and will provide you with an unforgettable experience for the whole family.

We have never stayed in such a warm and inviting home. We are so happy that our French guest was able to experience the mountains of NC in such a unique and original way. With its convenient location and charming decorations, Bear Necessities made our family vacation memorable. Thank you!

This is a beautifaul cabin and we had a great family vacation for us! The mountains are a magical place and hold special meaning for us as my husband and I got engaged on the "mile high bridge" at Grandfather Mountain. We had the pleasure of bringing our 6 and 4 year old boys with us and your cabin was great place to call home! We loved that it was so warm and welcoming and whimisical - and that we could see Grandfather Mtn at every turn! We hope others make great family memories here as well!

What a beautiful, cozy home with all the character one could ever ask for! Our family needed a nice relaxing week at the mountains and could not have asked for more relaxation and comfort! I loved the trip to Grandfather Mountain, berakfast at the Grandview Restaurant, and shopping locally! When we returned back home sitting on the back porch and watching the birds was truly getting in touch with nature. The walks around the neighborhood were enjoyable as well. We will certainly be back next year and tell all of our friends about it! Thank you for sharing thsi beautifaul home with our family

The best Thanksgiving ever! This was a halfway meeting point for all of my family - so we decided to come here for Thanksgving. Both our son and son-in-law, Marine Corps pilots, are scheduled for deployments in 2009. This was the last time we would all be together for a year. So we made the most of it. We played games, soaked in the hot tub, hiked, played cards, cooked, ate, went to Grandfather Mountain. We spent a day in Blowing Rock, and each went home with a Christmas tree on top of our cars! We will have magical memories of the week we spent in your cabin. Thank you for the Christmas decorations! We were so blessed to be able to start our hoildays together in the perfect cabin.

The sight is wonderful. Thanks a lot to house owner for creativitiy and great care. All our kids were excited and happy, and didn't want to leave - we either! We all love this cabin and hope to get here again.
