RED ROOF COTTAGE of Banner Elk 2830 sq feet
CONVENIENT LOCATION. *8 minutes to slopes**Less than 1/2 mile from Banner Elk Winery**10-12 minutes to Sugar and Beech Mountains** Situated 1.5 miles from the Banner Elk stop light, The Red Roof Cottage of Banner Elk is ideally located in the heart of the High Country. Guests will greatly appreciate the private, quaint mountain setting while maintaining access to the top-tier shops, eateries, and activities of downtown Banner Elk.
SPACIOUS FLOOR PLAN. 2830 SQUARE FEET. The entry level consists of 2000 square feet featuring a den, kitchen, three bedrooms (each with a queen bed), two bathrooms, a sunroom/game room, an outside private hot tub, and a wonderful deck overlooking Shawneehaw Creek. The kitchen (truly the heart of the Cottage) is large and roomy, and is very well equipped for most "chefs". Notable features include two microwaves, a gas fireplace, and a recently restored beautiful 1940's 7' x 4' solid maple rectangular table with matching benches ideal for family-style feasts and games! Each bedroom features a queen-size bed and simple decor. The back of the house boasts a large deck where guests will enjoy relaxing to the sounds of Shawneehaw Creek or soaking in the hot tub while star gazing. Finally, the sun room exudes the mountain's rustic nature by surrounding guests with knotty pine walls and ceilings, a slate floor, and a wall of windows looking eastward over the grounds. Additionally, the sunroom houses a foosball table.
UNIQUE DOWNSTAIRS LEVEL. This level (830 square feet) features a master suite, galley-style kitchen with eat in nook, and den, providing a semi-private retreat for the more discerning guests. The master suite is a spacious room with a king-size bed, gas "wood-burning" stove, cable television, and its own bathroom with a large shower. The well equipped galley-style kitchen offers a refrigerator/freezer, stove, oven, microwave, coffee maker, and utensils. Finally, the large den features a full sleeper sofa, magnificent gas fireplace with hand-carved mantle, and a 32" television with cable. Amplifying these features are the wood tones of knotty pine walls throughout. Although it serves wonderfully as a semi-private retreat, it also provides an ideal setting to separate children and adults, thereby affording a relaxing vacation to ALL the guests (especially us parents)!
LEVEL ACCESS. Located along Balm Highway/Highway 194, the road leading to the Cottage is of mild gradient and relatively straight. Additionally, having personally slid down steep driveways during the High Country winters, we specifically sought a gentle driveway for year round access. You'd be hard pressed to find a more friendly driveway. Finally, the first floor rests level with the surroundings, thereby negating the multiple steps that abound on most local properties. These features, coupled with the Cottage's level main floor and relation to downtown, make it ideal not only for the winter visitor, but also for those seeking reprise from the South's summer heat.
Whether it's luxury or simplicity you are seeking, you'll find your desires fulfilled at The Red Roof Cottage. Its location, floor plan, accessibility, and amenities will be a welcomed treat to your visit to this wonderful area they call the High Country.

Why the Owner Chose Banner Elk
The NC High Country, and Banner Elk in particular, offer wonderful year round activities for families like ours to enjoy. Although we have always appreciated mountainous terrain and outdoor activities, the unique character of Banner Elk as a resort-style small town with snow skiing, fly fishing, and wonderful restaurants and shops in the immediate vicinity enticed us to purchase a vacation property to share with others.
The Unique Benefits at this Cottage
The Red Roof Cottage offers the seclusion and peace of a mountain retreat with the benefit of a nearby resort town. It's unique location offers extremely easy all-weather access and ready access to the town of Banner Elk. Occupants will enjoy sitting on the deck overlooking a private stretch of Shawneehaw Creek as well as star gazing while sitting in the hot tub. The unique arrangement of a spacious first floor kitchen and a downstairs kitchen is wonderful for multiple families and holiday gatherings. Additionally, the presence of a complete downstairs living space (bedroom, kitchen, and den) is ideal to separate adults and children so all can relax on vacation.
Chocked full of wonderful restaurants and shops, downtown Banner Elk is only 1.5 miles from the Cottage.
A wonderful, well-maintained park in the heart of Banner Elk. Enjoy the beautifully restored Shawneehaw Creek, multiple playgrounds, walking trail, and open fields.
Located 7 miles from the Cottage, the Mast General Store in Valle Crucis is the Original store. A must see for any visitor to the High Country.
Located 40 minutes from the Cottage and boasting the title of America's third cleanest lake, Watauga Lake offers wonderful summer activities.

We had a great time at Cornerstone. The house was clean, the location was perfect for skiing (10 min. to Sugar and 15 min. to Beech), and Tom was great to work with. I highly recommend staying here for anyone visiting the Banner Elk location and especially if you're going skiing. We had the fortune of having some snow fall and due to the house being right off of the highway, the road was always clear, which was awesome as I didn't have a 4 wheel drive. The hot tub was nice to come back to after a long day of skiing and (with the exception of a little bit of road noice) it was awesome to look up at the starry sky and listen to the little stream in the back. Kitchen was fully equipped (with a propane grill on the deck) which allowed us to save money on breakfast and dinner (and spend the money on lift tickets).

My family (10 and a dog) stayed at this property and were not disappointed. Everything promised in the listing was accurate. The house was perfect for our large group. The kitchen was perfect for cooking dinners (it had all the utensils needed). There was plenty of room for all of us to be together, but also to have our own space and some privacy. I would highly recommend this property to anyone wanting a great place to stay. The skiing was fabulous! The property is very close to Sugar Mountain Ski Resort. We had dinner one night at Stone Walls (great food - decent prices). Alpine Ski Rentals is a great place to rent ski equipment. And last but not least the owner of this property (Tom) was very attentive to our needs and just a great person to work with. Definitely a 5 STAR vacation!
Owner response:Terri, thanks for your kind remarks. You and your group were a pleasure to have and easy to work with. We continue to enhance the Cottage each year, as we will in 2011. We let the Cottage speak for itself and seek only to present an accurate depiction of it. My goal is to avoid false expectations with our renters. Pleased you enjoyed yourself, and hope to have you back again. Tom

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this cottage! We rented both the upstairs and down. Very spacious rooms and very clean. The yard was great for playing in the snow! We would love to stay here again if we make another trip to Banner Elk.

Ive been coordinating trips to the area for the past 3 years from Charleston AFB, SC and this was our first year at the Cornerstone Cottage. We're a military group of 8 and we stayed for a weekend of snowboarding and skiing at Sugar Mountain. The cottage was perfect in every way! Location was great, everything was as advertised, and the owner "Tom" was great throughout the whole process! If I ever have the same size group I will definetely be staying at the Cornerstone Cottage again! Thanks Tom!!!

We stayed here for our son's wedding. The location was in close proximity to everything! The house was perfect--at times we had 35 people visiting, (although we slept only 14 in the upstairs and sownstairs)the deck/hot tub were perfect, as well as the sun room. We just loved the place and created many memories there. Would return in a heartbeat!
