Why the Owner Chose Arenal
Costa Rica is an amazing country! The local people are warm, friendly and very helpful. As a whole,Costa Ricans have an unbelievable love and respect for the natural resources of their country, including both animals and plants. Our plan is to retire in Costa Rica in a few years (not few enough, though!) and we are happy to share this amazing experience with other travelers when we are not able to be at Finca Soñada
The Unique Benefits at this Cabin
Finca Soñada is unique in that, when on the property, the only neighbors you will see are the beef and dairy cows in the surrounding pastures, the howler monkeys, iguanas, toucans and other birds, yet when you need to shop, go to the bank, eat out or use the internet, these places are only a short walk, bus ride or car drive away!
Owner's Map of Arenal
We have had a life long interest in Latin America and its culture. Our two grown children were adopted from Latin America as infants. We have traveled/lived extensively in Costa Rica, Mexico, Honduras and Peru. When we travel, we like to get a true experience of the country and its people. We have designed and built our home in Costa Rica based on such principles....it is designed in the typical "tico" fashion, built by a local builder, using local hardwoods and other building materials such as tile floors and red tiled roof and we have used traditional, local colors. We feel that by designing the house in this way, we show respect to both the culture and traditions of Costa Rica as well as providing a true Costa Rican experience for our guests.

My husband and I really enjoyed staying at Finca Soñada, the location is breathtakingly lovely, with gorgeous views of Lake Arenal a short walk from the house and total privacy. You are really tucked away in nature there, with just the cows as your neighbors. The house is really cute and clean, with lovely furnishings. The property managers, Margie and Olman, are great. They helped us so much, and made our stay a true pleasure. The local town, Tilaran, is a great base point for exploring the area, and has all the services required, plus lots of Tico fare. We loved it, and would definitely return. Thanks Marie and Ed!

Finca Sonada is a lovely escape. It seems very remote, but it's actually close to a major road and bus route. For a quick meal, cold beer, and wi-fi, you can just walk down the road. Lots of cows and toucans...A howler monkey lived in a nearby tree, and even though we only saw him once, we heard him every day! For beautiful views of mountains, pastures, and Lake Arenal, just take a short walk in either direction. Also, the property managers are fantastic and extraordinarily helpful. One caution: I recommend avoiding the windy season (December through March), unless you're a windsurfer, because the wind and storms can be intense. Also, because the bus schedule can be difficult and you're in a rural location, renting a car is almost necessary.
Owner response:The weather during Jenna's and Eric's stay was unusually harsh. It is not usually this rainy or windy at this time of year. In fact, it is not even considered the rainy season in January. If only we could control the weather, we would be sure every one of our renters had only sunshine!
