Best points
The apartment has been completely renovated in June 2007, is very quiet and nevertheless located in the central and lively quarter “Appio – San Giovanni”. Just outside the building there are shops, restaurants, cinemas, supermarkets and all kind of services.
The flat is very conveniently located since underground line A stop ‘Colli albani' is just a stone’s throw and in 4 stops or 20 minutes’ walking along the commercial street Via Appia you reach San Giovanni Basilica. The historical center is also reachable by underground and the journey up to Piazza di Spagna takes about 15 minutes. San Pietro (Vatican city) is also directly connected by underground line A (the journey takes approximately 20 minutes).
The main railway station Termini is connected by underground line A and the journey is about 10 minutes. In addition, the flat is located at about 800 mts. from the railway station Tuscolana (exit Via Tuscolana and then turn left) which has continuous express connections to Fiumicino/Leonardo da Vinci airport (the ticket price is 5.50 € - journey about 30 minutes).Along Via Appia and Via Tuscolana there are also direct bus connections to the historical city center and other areas of the city.
The flat is also located at a walking distance (about 15 minutes) from the beautiful Caffarella/Appia Antica natural park: a huge natural park where you will find sheep and horses (just in the heart of the city!) and also vestiges from ancient periods. Bikes’ rental is also possible. For more details click on the link below and consider that ‘Valle della Caffarella’ is the nearest part of the park to the flat.
The building was built in the fifties and renovated forty years later, it consists of six storys, topped by a rooftop terrace. Many of the families who bought in the 50s still reside there, an indication to the stability and safety of the area. Some of the surrounding buildings are of the same vintage. Gandolfo Flat is on ground floor.
A fresh market, open daily in the morning, is at only 50 mts. from the flat.

We stayed in this flat for 5 nights and found it to be modern, quite comfortable, well equipped and ideally located - away from the bustling and expensive city centre but within 5 minutes of the subway for easy (and quick) access to all parts of central Rome. It is also only a 15 minute trip to the Rome Termini rail station, from which we took a couple of day trips by train, as well as a very inexpensive (5 Euros per person) train ride to the cruise terminal at Civitavecchia. On a prior and near-by Rome stay (Re di Roma metro - 3 stops away) we had found a fantastic restaurant with a wood-burning pizza oven - Al Grottino Pizzeria on Via Orvietto - and we went there again, this time, on three occasions. Many really good and quite inexpensive entrees in addtion to pizza, and waiters who speak English. Nicola, our contact, was extremely helpful and answered all of our emails to her in a very timely manner; Tonino, who works with her, was also extremely helpful. We would certainly be happy to stay here again.Owner response: Thank you for being our guest. As a valued guest, your comments are extremely important to us. It is our goal to deliver each and every one of our guests the best experience possible. I personally appreciate your time and assistance in helping to make our flat the best it can be. Thank you for choosing our flat. Kind Regards, Riccardo & Nicola

We stayed at the apartment for 6 nights and found it to be as described and as photos showed it to be....very comfortable and spacious for one bedroom. All necessary supplies for cooking. Washer did not work while we were there, but accommodations were made for our laundry. Only negative was lack of internet access.....however there is a McDonalds (tried to find cafes first without success) which is just outside Colli Albani metro which provided free internet access when we needed it. Was nice to be in neighborhood away from tourists. Very easily accessible to metro and all sites. Would stay there again and recommend to others. Great outdoor market in a.m. right outside door. Hypermarket for groceries 2-3 blocks to left exiting apartment. All questions and issues/ communication was prompt. Appreciated the service. Overall very good experience.Recommended for: Tourists without a car, sightseeing, age 55+.

I and my parents stayed at Gandolfo flat for 1 week in early October 2011 and we had a great time in Rome. The flat is as described and pictured on the vbro site - well equipped, wonderfully decorated and clean, it had absolutely everything we need. Outside the building is a nice fresh market with delicious Italian food. The location is good, with easy access to public transport, the metro and bus stops are very close by. The owner Riccardo and managers Nicola and Tonino were very helpful and responsive. We highly recommend this flat and would definitely stay there again.Recommended for: Tourists without a car, sightseeing, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, age 55+.

My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay in Rome recently. We stayed for a full month and found the apartment to be excellent. It had everything we needed for a comfortable stay---air conditioning, full kitchen, large comfortable bath and a spacious comfortable bedroom with a huge walk-in closet. Just a few metro stops from the historic center of Rome we actually preferred being in a peaceful family neighborhood a bit removed from the hustle and bustle. No tourists---a great advantage! And a terrific fresh market just outside the building. The owner, Riccardo, was wonderfully helpful as were Tonino and Nicola. We highly recommend it and plan on returning on our next trip to Rome. Ottimo!Recommended for: Tourists without a car, sightseeing, age 55+.
Owner response: Thankyou for your note and for having chosen our flat in Rome and I hope you had a safe trip back home. For any friends or family coming to Rome, they can have a Special Discount as "Preferred Guests", you can give them our email address, or ask them to send Nicola an email. Thanks again and looking forward to meeting you in the future again in Rome. Kind Regards Ricccardo & Nicola & Tonino

About the owner: I'm an fitness instructor. Kitesurfing is my thing, in particular, wave riding. Knees getting a bit old for too much jumping so my passion is for some down the line wave ride. I now live in Rome, trying to combine running my work with sneaking off for a sail or a surf. When not staring at a computer screen or sailing I can be found in my fitness center.
Why the Owner Chose San Giovanni (St. John Lateran):
This house was my home before I change for bigger one. I love this house for her position and light.
