This is our personal home which we have completely remodeled. This beach bungalow located on Moran Lake in Santa Cruz, near Capitola, is breathtaking and feels like your personal spa retreat. Situated in a very quiet neighborhood, it feels so removed from city life, yet close to all amenities. The beach is a 5 minute walk away, with Pleasure Point, the best surfing spot in Santa Cruz, 5 minutes in the other direction with panoramic views of Monterey Bay. Or stay in and relax in your own Hot Springs spa on the back deck. The home is open with lots of natural light from large windows overlooking the lake and feels larger than the square footage. The kitchen has all you need with a 1956 antique O'Keefe and Merritt gas stove. (It works great!) There are two large decks in the back that overlook the lake with peeks of Moran beach through the eucalyptus trees. The home is a mix of Asian and Hawaiian decor furnished with Japanese antiques. So we ask that you treat it with special care.
There is so much to do in Santa Cruz, it's almost difficult to know where to start. Santa Cruz and the Monterey area have many recreational and cultural diversions to keep you busy and entertained. The Santa Cruz Mountains provide wonderful hiking, mountain biking, and exploring in the beautiful state parks including Big Basin with its ancient redwoods, Nisene Marks, and Henry Cowell. Local attractions include the Beach Boardwalk, yacht harbor, municipal and Capitola wharfs, Monterey Aquarium, Elkhorn Slough, the Mystery Spot and the downtown Pacific Garden mall. UC Santa Cruz, Cabrillo Community College, and the Santa Cruz Civic Auditorium offer many cultural events such as the annual Shakespeare Festival during the summer, musicals and plays, and symphony. The Boardwalk offers free outdoor concerts on Fridays during the summer. There also are wonderful local wineries in the Santa Cruz Mountains and Monterey with several wine festivals during the year. Water sports abound with world class surfing, sailing, fishing, kayaking, windsurfing, kitesurfing, swimming, diving (some of the most challenging but beautiful diving in the world) and paddle surfing. Santa Cruz is a very bike friendly town with bike lanes all through town and along the coastline.
There are also phenomenal restaurants and eateries all within a few minutes walk or drive. Is there a particular kind of cuisine you enjoy? I'm sure you can find it somewhere in Santa Cruz. We have several farmer's markets which provide some of the most delicious, freshest produce (mostly organic) and bakery items. Nearest movie theaters are only a mile away.
Come to play, explore, or relax. Our home and the environs will definitely allow for all.

Pleasure Point Paradise! Beach and Lagoon Views!
Year Purchased: 1984
Why the Owner Chose Santa Cruz
Since growing up in Hawaii, living near the ocean is crucial despite our long commute to work in Silicon Valley. When we descend from the Summit on Highway 17 towards Santa Cruz, a soothing feeling comes over us and all the stresses of the day melt away. We love Santa Cruz because of the temperate weather (it rarely goes over 80 degrees), the outdoor activities, easy access to cultural events, as well as being close enough to enjoy Monterey, San Jose, and San Francisco. People seem much more friendly, easy-going and neighborly in Santa Cruz.
The Unique Benefits at this House
We love the short walk to the beach. We often would catch the sunset, strolling along the water's edge or walking along the opposite side of the lake. Sometimes we would take some wood down to the beach and have a cozy fire, roasting smores or watching the meteor showers. Or for a different view, we would go to Pleasure Point and watch the surfers. We also enjoy having our meals out on our deck overlooking the lake or sitting in our spa at sunset or under the full moon. I love that there are outside views from every room and the picture window in the grand room frames one of the best views.
Recreational harbor with places to charter a sailing cruise, rent boats, or kayaks. Restaurants include the Crow's Nest, Aldo's, Johnny's Harborside, El Palomar with ocean and harbor views. Access to
Beachside amusement park with rides, games, concerts, and restaurants. Municipal Wharf for fishing rentals, equipment, and top restaurants.
Picturesque beach village with riverside and ocean front restaurants, shops, art galleries. Local festivals include Capitola Art and Wine and the Begonia Festival. Access to beach.
Local community college with the best Farmer's market on Saturday mornings, plays and musicals.
Surfer's paradise. One of the best if not best surfing spots in Northern California.
Open mall downtown Santa Cruz. It has it all. Great restaurants, cool stores, movie theaters, street entertainers.
Owner's Map of Santa Cruz
Laura has lived in this house for 25 years. She grew up in Hawaii. Tony has lived in San Jose until they married. We have spent the last few years remodeling the entire house; doing much of the work ourselves. We are so happy with the results. However, we have relocated for a while to care for Laura's parents in Hawaii. We plan to return to Santa Cruz but for now our home is available to you. We hope you enjoy it as much as we do.
