This is our second time staying here, and hopefully again in Aug 2012. Was a very cold weekend on the coast But very warm a cozy in the house. The furniture and beds are very comfortable and the heated floors are so wonderful under foot.

Owner response:I am so glad the house was warm and welcoming on a winter weekend. Dinner or a book by the fire or standing with a cup of coffee on the warm kitchen floor is wonderful, no matter the weather outside. Thank you for renting.

An amazing, well-kept home perfectly depicted in the photos. Extremely warm & cozy feeling as soon as you enter the home. The kitchen was well-equipped, even down to directions of where to find items! The drive off the highway was peaceful and beautiful. We are accustomed to the deer grazing, but still had to stop and spend a few minutes with them. As we were there in the winter, storms were raging. A very short drive to scenic areas to storm-watch - amazing! The "no-shoes in house policy" was unusual for a beach house rental, but certainly no problem. We would definitely return to this house in the future.

Perfect, in every way!

My delay in writing this review is by no means a reflection on my enthusiasm for the property. With my small dog and three teenage children in tow, we hunkered down for a week in August 2012. The experience was nothing short of exilerating. The wildness of the surroundings were stunning, and the comfort, simplicity, and elegance inherent in the layout and furnishings of the home, welcoming. Whether one wants to settle in with a good book, cook for a crowd, or play frisbee or run on the beach, the home and location proved perfect. I'd like to commit to a longer stretch of time at this home in the future (as finances permit!) but in the meantime, I will embrace the memories we made and the much-needed relaxation gained. BTW: Susan was great to facilitate logistics with. She's both professional and kind, and clearly the type of homeowner who cares about the integrity of her relationships with guests and the upkeep of her vacation home.

If you are looking for an accessible quiet place to stay with private beach access, this is it. But be aware there is no ocean view, just grassy dunes. Easy drive from Astoria and Seaside. Exactly as described, including the elk. All the nice things said by others are true. Perhaps not peaceful for parents of toddlers as there is an unprotected stairwell at the end of the kitchen.

Owner response:We have added a gate at the top of the stairs for any family that wants the added security, as well as hand bars on the stairwell. We hope these improvements solve the problems.

Beautiful house that's fully equipped, nicely decorated, and very comfortable. Great location that's just a few hundred feet from the beach. It's in a quiet neighborhood--fairly secluded, but not very far from downtown Astoria. Lots of comfortable amenities like a fireplace and heated floors. Owner/manager was very accommodating and friendly. Highly recommended.

We very much enjoyed our stay in this beautiful home. We were a little disappointed to find there is no view of the ocean from the home though. The heated floors were awesome - we were all impressed with them. Really the only negative I can say is the stairs in the kitchen going down to the garage. They are scary! I wouldn't want small ones around! Thank you for sharing your home!

What a fantastic home. Nestled in the dunes amongst the pines and sea grass, surrounded by wildlife. The home is very nice and open, the newly re-modeled baths and kitchen with the heated floors are fantastic. It is a short, enjoyable walk to the beach through beautiful flowering grasses. The home offers all the amenities one could ask for and the owner is fantastic to work with and extremely accommodating. We will be back!

Peaceful, relaxing and a great value

My wife, our dog and I stayed here this week (Memorial Day week). What a beautiful home and wonderful area. It really is no more than a 1/4 mile walk through the dunes to the beach....very convenient. The home is very clean with any amenity you could really want. The photos on this site are accurate and helpful. The home borders significant wild space, and we saw deer in the adjacent field every morning and evening. The roads outside the home are very quiet (maybe 4-5 cars rode by that we saw the entire 4 day stay). The home as Directv with a number of movie channel options. My wife and I just loved this place and our vacation was very relaxing; it was also our dog Edgar's very first time at the beach and he had a blast. We highly recommend this as a great spot with excellent value for your money.

We only had 4 days and 5 nights and would have loved 10 times that! The home is filled with luxury, yet modest and cozy! Easy to deal with owner who is helpful and considerate! Safe, clean and convenient location! A+++++ Will recommend and will stay again! Thank you!

Girlfriends Weekend 2010

We had a lovely stay at the Dunes House. This was our 18th annual Girlfriends Weekend. Our ONLY suggestion would be to increase the cleaning fee & include the laundry. It was a bit stressful getting up early enough to get in showers and some laundry before we had to check out at 11am.

Fantastic Home!

What a fantastic place! We spent five nights at the Dunes house over Easter and had a very relaxing time. The house is extremely well-kept and very clean. We really enjoyed cooking dinners in the remodeled kitchen, and the floor to ceiling windows offer great views and tons of light. The access to the beach is an easy walk through the dunes, and the beach stretches for miles in either direction. There was plenty of room for four adults, and six would still be comfortable. The owners were very helpful suggesting activities in the area. It was a great coastal experience - we will be back next year!

My sister, brother in-law, husband, me and our dogs had the most relaxing, wonderful week at "The Dunes" house! The owner was very gracious and was concerned that the time spent at her home was pleasant and to our satisfaction. There was plenty of room for everybody and we were all very comfortable. The kitchen was well stocked with lots of dishes and pots and pans, and there was even a large wash tub in the garage to bathe the dogs after a day at the beach! The only complaint I have is that our stay wasn't long enough - we are all looking forward to the next time!

It was just the two of us with our dog, what a great house! The heated floors are just wonderful under foot. We plan to return with another family. The outdoor heated shower is great for clean up the kids and/or dog.
