The name, Casa Encantada, explains it all! The enchanting nature of the City of Guanajuato is only enhanced by the comfort and beauty of our home. You'll be spell-bound by the spectacular views from all the rooms of the house, but especially from the spacious rooftop terrace.
Truly located in the Historical Town Central, you are just steps away from all the main attractions of this enchanting city. No need for a car, all is within walking distance. In fact, there is NO place for a car! GTO was not a city in which one wants to drive! (Beware of houses offering parking. This means they are way too far up for walking!)
From the house one can see all the major historic, educational and cultural sights of the city - the University of Guanajuato, El Pipila, the mercado, Alhondiga, cristo rey, el Panteon, etc. In Guanajuato, you'll enjoy the mystical tunnels, the interesting and varied callejones, the mummy and other world-famous museums. Cultural live theater and art are a part of everyday life. You'll encounter music everywhere in the city - Estudiantinas which lead listeners through the city's callejones every evening, mariachi groups, bandas - you name it.
Casa Encantado is located a few steps up from Calle Pocitos, just about mid-point on the street where both the Diego Rivera Museum and Alhondiga are located. The Jardin, University, Escuela Mexicana and Mercado are all within a five minute walk.
Upon entering the property, there is a pleasant outdoor patio and a half bath. As you enter the first living floor of the house, you'll find the foyer, full amenity kitchen, living room, twin bedroom and master bedroom with full bath. The main house sleeps up to four people. For an extra fee there is a guest master bedroom/bath on the upper level that sleeps two more.
You'll be struck by the beautiful furnishings, high boveda ceilings, and natural light of the home. Sunlight pours in all day, keeping the home warm in the winter, and the constant breeze keeps the home cool in the summer.
The kitchen is well-stocked for cooking, with coffee maker, juicer, blender as well as the usual necessities. You'll find high-quality linens and comfortable mattresses that you would expect in your own home. Although enchanting Guanajuato will keep you tempted to leave your normal life behind, there is wireless internet, a small wireless modem that plugs into the USB port of your laptop computer, on the property to keep you connected to your business or family while on your adventure in Guanajuato.
You will probably spend enormous amounts of time on the next level upstairs - the spacious rooftop terrace - which affords you views of the city that cannot be beat! Whether you spend the early morning watching the city wake up, or enjoy the gorgeous sunset with a glass of wine, the views and pleasant breezes on the rooftop will inspire you each and every day.
There is comfortable seating for dining and entertaining on the terrace, as well as the second master bedroom. The jacuzzi tub was placed so that you can enjoy a good long soak while watching the views of the city from the picture window.
Casa Encantado is the ideal place for your stay in Guanajuato. The location is perfect, just a few steps up a safe callejon inhabited by Mexican families, and only minutes from the heart of the city. We would be honored to host your stay in Guanajuato and feel confident that you will return to our enchanted home again and again.

Incredible Guanajuato Views Only Steps from the Center of Town
Year Purchased: 2009
Why the Owner Chose Guanajuato
I just happened to see an ad for this property and corresponded with the owners. It felt like my house right from the start, so I flew down to Guanajuato, not knowing what to expect, and immediately fell in love with the property and Guanajuato City. I bought the basic house as it was being constructed, and then added the top floor with a jacuzzi tub overlooking the city. It's been so much fun adding my personal touches and spending time in my sweet Guanajuato casita. I am happy to share this beautiful property with others. You will simply love the location!
The Unique Benefits at this House
The pace of life in Guanajuato is so alluring - peaceful yet vibrant, calm yet so musical and exciting. My casita has become a wonderful solace after a day of exploring the city. The location couldn't be better - it is located just above the greatest plaza in Guanajuato, San Fernando Plaza. This plaza is home to several restaurants and bars, stores, frequent festivals, and the best people-watching in the city! I've decorated the house with comfort and convenience in mind. As a lover of cooking, I have equipped the kitchen with everything you need to make your favorite meals. At the end of the day, I love nothing more than to light a few candles, sip some red wine, climb into my beautiful jacuzzi, and watch the city through the picture window!
Important museum commemorating the role of Guanajuato in the independence of Mexico.
This is the house in which he grew up. Now it is a museum, displaying some of his art and the house itself.
Best people-watching in the city! Great place to relax and enjoy a drink.
The main Jardin where many tourists, as well as locals, can sit and enjoy music, art and meals, and each other. The Theatre Juarez is in this square.
Owner's Map of Guanajuato
I love real estate. I own several rental properties in northern California, which allows me to travel and see other parts of the world. One of my sons is from a Spanish-speaking country, so I really wanted to find a second home in a location other than the US, so that the whole family can explore more about the Latin culture and the Spanish language.

Our trip to Guanajuaton was truly wonderful, and even more so because of our stay. The views from the terrace are wonderful, you have good views of the Mercado Hidalgo, Plaza de la Paz, the university, teatro Juarez and El Pipila. The climb up to the house did prove a challenge, but worth it.
Owner response:Guanajuato is shaped like a bowl. The city in the middle with the houses climbing up the surrounding hills. Truly lovely!!! And 58 steps up to the house is considered a short climb. The houses continue on up to 450 steps! It is a very easy climb for most, but some do find it difficult if not used to physical activity. It's a great way to remind yourself that movement is essential for keeping ourselves able as we enter our golden years!!!!

We spent 5 weeks in Guanajuato with our 1 year old and had a great time. We really felt at home - the house was lovely to spend time in looking out over the city. We were expecting the worst with regards to noise, but apart from church bells and fireworks it was pretty quiet. Our active toddler liked the house - especially chasing bugs and climbing the steps in the courtyard garden (though the rooftop terrace and spiral staircase was out of bounds). He also took his first steps here! We liked the location - being at the end of town closer to the Mercado and Supermarket was really helpful, especially with a toddler, plus I personally think the Plaza San fernando/Jardin Reforma area has a nicer feel than the main Jardin end of town. Kathleen and Carlos were very helpful (despite our non-existent Spanish). The house isn't without the odd quirk, but this is Mexico after all, and we would definitley recommend this place to others.

In order to fully experience what is like living in this beautiful city, it is necessary to experience it in one of the local homes. Casa Encantada is a prefect place to fulfill this experience. Its location perched on the side of the hill overlooking the city and the houses across the valley provided us with one of the most enjoyable vistas that we have ever had in all of our travels. The house is comfortable, charming and with all the amenities necessary to fully enjoy one's stay. It is nicely maintained and Carlos assistance and who lives within shouting distance adds to the pleasure of staying at the house. Be prepared for a climb to the house but it is well worth it. We highly recommend Casa Encantada.
Owner response:Casa Encantada truly is the perfect place right there in the center of Historical Guanajuato. And believe it or not the 58 step climb is considered an easy climb in this beautiful city whose houses are built up the surrounding hills! It's one of the lower houses!

Dear Kathleen- We absolutely loved our stay in your beautiful home. From the natural work-out climbing the charming callejon to the stunning roof-top terrace and bedroom, we totally relaxed into the Guanajuato lifestyle. The location is amazing with everything (museums, plazas, gardens, shops) within easy walking distance. Carlos is a gem, very helpful, non-invasive and patient with my broken Spanish. The coffee maker in the penthouse bedroom was a luxurious bonus! We will definitely return and thank you so much for providing us with an unforgettably wonderful experience, Kathie and Phil Arena

We loved that this rental had everything we needed for cooking and entertainment for nights spent in. The house is right in town and close to everything that you would ever want to see..and you'll see a lot of beautiful places and things here. Arriving at the Leon airport we were met by our hosts Terri and Marcos. They drove us all the way into Guanajuato, and helped us in to the house. Terri was very gracious by giving us a complete tour of the city the next day. She spent time with us, and made us feel very comfortable. The patio, the views of the city, and the entire house are beautifully designed, and ready for what ever you want to do. After a couple of blocks walking to the city center, we found everything we wanted. The beautiful parks, Mercado's, restaurants, and all of the entertainment was waiting for us when we arrived. If you like to explore, and would like to see this beautiful area first hand, we suggest spending some time in the area. The views are spectacular!! Thanks Terri and Marcos!!! See you soon!! What a cute place! I stayed here with my girlfriend and we had a great time. It looks new and is very nicely designed. Guanajuato is a romantic city and this home we stayed in was too with it's nice outlooks and views combined with a charming style and location. We loved the jacuzzi style tub and I took advantage of the well appointed kitchen for the few nights we didn't eat out. You are just high enough on the hill to get a beautiful view but not so high on the hill to worry about sweating the steps. You're right next to all sorts of historic buildings, bars, restaurants and plazas. I spent a lot of time on the upstairs deck to take in the view day or night. I'll be back.

What a lovely little hideaway. It's like a slice of heaven in one of the loveliest places on earth. This gorgeous house is perfect in every way. It has unbelievable views of the mountains and city, taking advantage of all of the beauty and charm that Guanajuato has to offer. The house is a bit of a walk uphill,58 steps, but it's totally worth it. This place is decorated to perfection. Hand-carved furniture, ornate mirrors and exquisite paintings will make you feel like you're in a first class hotel. The kitchen has everything you'll need to whip up a fabulous meal. But be prepared. All of the fantastic restaurants and night-life nearby will certainly lure you away from this adorable place. I only had a few days here, but feel like I could have stayed indefinitely. It was an incredible treat. I would happily go back again and again.
