The world turns, the seasons come and go; spring, summer and fall. Over the years, my wife and I have had the deeply satisfying experience of vacationing at Peg and Garry’s ‘cabin ‘,(think small house) , uniquely located on one of the greatest recreational lakes in the country; magnificent Lake of the Woods; a fishing and hunting paradise; if that is your leaning. Garry and Peg, your totally congenial hosts can tell you all about these aspects if so desired. For my wife and I, the experience is different. Let us drive you up to the cabin and begin to ‘feel’ what it is. As you approach the beautifully maintained property from the wooded road, turn right at the majestic white pine at the end of your driveway and proceed a few hundred feet to “Tranquility Base” your very private and fully accommodating “cabin”. Leave the luggage and enter your “spiffy clean” home away from home. Walk into the spacious living room and look out at the lake from two huge picture windows. Continue from the kitchen, onto the screened in porch and onto the open Bar B Q deck and look again. Those huge fully mature trees between you and the lake are a mix of red and white pine, birch and poplar. Those two birds with white heads circling the nearby island are bald eagles; your nearest neighbors. Maybe the sun is setting over the island. Can you hear the silence; feel the quietude, solitude and privacy yet? You have left the city! Now unpack your bags. Bar B Q’ing on the deck? tea, coffee or a glass of wine on the porch? Wait; what’s that sound? I know; it’s the wind rustling the leaves and the waves lapping on the shore and the sides of your canoe tied to your own private dock. When is the last time you heard that! Wake up softly, walk softly, look; maybe rabbits or a family of deer nibbling on the lawn or partridge pecking at the gravel on the driveway, certainly chipmunks skittering about. And yet; more! On a cloudless night, stay awake longer, walk outside, look up at a sky free of light pollution. That great river of stars, those distant suns , streaming across the inky blackness of space is the “Milky Way”, the edge of our galaxy. Feel its immensity and think about your place in the universe. Notice, it takes your breath away; you don’t want to talk, or if you do, it’s a whisper. Decompress! Reconnect, center yourself, think. Be glad you are alive! You can leave the ‘cabin’; the ‘cabin’ will never leave you. Enjoy and savor ”Tranquility Base”!

I stayed here with my two boys while visiting my grandparents in Kenora. The location is great - just far enough from town to feel like you're somewhere else. The cabin has lots of room and all the amenities you could need, plus the screened in veranda and deck make it feel very spacious. We especially enjoyed the private beach and fishing off the dock. I plan to come back again next year. Thanks for a great stay!

Kenora retreat.

My wife, my 7 month old plus myself had a wonderfull time at your Cabin. We found it very clean and everthing we needed seemed to be there. Really enjoyed the Fish cleaning house and private dock, along with the ready supply of firewood. Also the help with launching and retrieving our boat was a great help. This place was absolutly perfect for us, with a nice livingroom for the little one to roll around on, and the covered deck for Evening sits. We will definitly be back next fall.
