Unique and eclectic, this custom designed home with Spanish and Mediterranean influences was built 3 years ago. It is located on one of the most beautiful streets in Rio Del Mar, lined with tall cypress trees and a wonderful blend of old and new world architecture. It is a neighborhood where neighbors walk their dogs and stop to visit along the way. A friendly and quiet atmosphere for rest and relaxation! Two beach access points are located within just a few short blocks.
There are phenomenal ocean and whitewater views of the Monterey coastline to the south and of Capitola and Pleasure Point to the north, visible from most living areas, both upstairs and downstairs, and the outdoor enclosed courtyard/entertaining area.
The two story high entrance is painted in bright & welcoming colors with a curved staircase that is an invitation to “come on up” to enjoy the upstairs great room style living area where the living room, dining room and kitchen share the same open space. Two sliding glass doors open to ocean view decks. The kitchen has all of the amenities that one would expect in a luxury home where the owner loves to cook!
In addition, the Mieule built-in coffee/espresso machine and the wine captain are available for liquid libations, hot & cold! The living room has a custom designed gas fireplace for warmth and there are many interesting light fixtures and dimmers for atmosphere.
The feeling is one of comfort and belonging. A visitor once described it as “feeling like she had been hugged!” There is a powder room, laundry room and the elegant master bedroom and bath with a cozy gas fireplace and temperature controlled jetted tub with a separate shower and its ocean view balcony on the upstairs level as well.
Turning left in the entry will take you into the downstairs family room with a “mini kitchen” just off of the double French doors that are the entrance to the enclosed ocean view courtyard with it’s wood burning fireplace (perfect for making s’mores), Lynx barbeque, outdoor kitchen, hammock, and gorgeous coastal oak tree. Many pleasant evenings of friendly conversation have been spent sitting in front of the fire while listening to the waves break on the shore after sharing a delicious meal!
The downstairs also has two beautiful guest rooms (one with a fold out, very comfortable queen size BarcaLounger) and a guest bathroom with an extra deep soaking tub/shower.
A very important amenity, that should be noted for those who are challenged by stairs, is the elevator that is wheelchair accessible and has an interior light & telephone for emergencies!
The gardens surrounding this lovely home are lush, beautiful, and filled with a myriad of colors and scents. There are two fountains, one that greets you through the gates of the entrance courtyard, & one in an area meant for quiet meditation. The outdoor shower is an extra special treat! There is even a home gym in the garage.
You can park your car and explore the “neighborhood” by foot or bicycle. The Café Rio, Pixie’s Deli, Full of Beans Coffee House, and the Seabreeze are just down the hill to the north at Rio Del Mar Beach. Seacliff State Beach and Museum and the Cement Ship & pier are fun destinations for fishing, and for learning about sea life and the history of the area.
A short drive will take you to Nicene Marks Park for hiking and biking. The Elkhorn Slough at Moss Landing is a nature lover’s paradise where you can kayak on your own or with a guided tour to see otters, seals, & pelicans. The Seascape Golf Course is nearby and Pacific Grove, Monterey, and Carmel with shopping, sightseeing, the Monterey Bay Aquarium and additional world class golf courses and restaurants are a half hour away.
Surfers can enjoy all of the great spots that make our area famous! Santa Cruz County is also home to many different music venues and genres. Blues, Jazz, Swing, Rock and Roll, Punk, Alternative, Country, and even the Symphony as well as Shakespeare Santa Cruz and various offerings on the Cabrillo College stage. Antique shops are scattered throughout the county. Local Santa Cruz Wineries offer tastings and special Passport Weekends.
We are fortunate to visit many gifted and talented artists in their homes and studios during the three Open Studio weekends. Summer concerts on the beach, Wednesday night sailboat races, art & wine festivals, the Wharf to Wharf race, triathlons and other special events are scheduled year round. Monarch butterflies and whale watching. Monte Foundation Fireworks Displays at Seacliff and Rio Del Mar beaches in October. The Santa Crua Cruz Beach Boardwalk and the renowned Big Dipper is a popular destination for young and old.
Big Sur, it's gorgeous scenery, art gallerys, restaurants and shops is an hour and a half drive down the coast.
There is ALWAYS something to do here, no matter what time of year or regardless of your interest of choice!

Why the Owner Chose Aptos
We built our home 3 years ago after first living in the existing "little house" for 6 years. The plan was to purchase a beach house before we retired so that the grandchildren would be sure to visit and so everything would be ready and in place. We loved the location where we could see the ocean and whitewater, hear it, and easily walk to it if we wanted to. Beauty is visible from every window. A home that is oriented for a sunset view was a priority to us. The street is quiet, unlike many areas so near the beach. Neighbors greet one another while out walking. The central location and proximity to almost any amenity helped to make the final decision an easy one! Every day is "Another Day in Paradise!"
A wonderful park for family picnics that has a playground for children of all ages & a big grass area. Beach access.
Walk for miles with your feet in the sand. Fire-rings for beach bonfires. Lots of shells after winter storms. Fireworks visible on the 4th of July and off of the cement ship pier the first week of Oct
Hiking and biking trails. Beautiful redwoods and nature.

We have been fortunate to call Santa Cruz County our home since 1977. Our children have been born and raised here and now our granddaughter is an official “Santa Cruzan” as well. We are nearing retirement age and love to travel. To that end, we have made the decision to rent our home which we love, while we are visiting far off places. It is our hope that it will be a Win, Win situation for all involved. Our goal is to ensure that our visitors’ experience will be so memorable, that they will want to return to our home and to our beautiful area year after year!
