The Cozy Cottage, Rolling Prairie, in - South of New Buffalo

The Cozy Cottage is located in a town called Rolling Prairie, which is just north of LaPorte - or just south of New Buffalo, MI. The cottage is situated next to Saugany Lake, which is wonderful for swimming and rafting. There are no speed boats allowed on the lake, so it’s real nice for children, swimming, fishing, and relaxing. The beach is private access for members only. Our guests may use the beach as our guests. We are responsible for you, as our guest. Please be sure to take a walk down to the small private beach, read the beach rules, and adhere to them.
The cottage itself was a house used in Chicago during the World's Fair, and was moved to Saugany Lake - so it's older - with add-ons. One of the downstairs bedrooms has a wash machine in it and a fold away cot. The upstairs can sleep up to six more people as it is one big open room. We currently have three twin beds up there, but more can sleep on the floors -- or bring blow up mattresses because it definitely has the space. The first floor is then completed by a full bath with tub. There is a large sized wood deck with a nice view of the lake. We have board games, beach toys, and a barbeque grill for our guests to use. Cottage also has a TV with VCR. This is a cottage.
This area is known for its country charm and small town way of life. Enjoy country drives and farm land produce. The Cozy Cottage is "30 minutes from anywhere". There are numerous sporting activities, shopping, theaters, restaurants and historic monuments all within 30 minutes of Saugany Lake.
This is a cottage rental, not the Ritz! You will need to bring your own items for use (including toilet paper, bed sheets, salt/pepper, etc.). It is simple living, so enjoy your stay, and spend some time rejuvenating!

Two friends & I rented this house September 10,11,12, 2010. We found the house & when we got in we were surprised to find only 3 chairs in the living room - two of which were most uncomfortable. The TV had power but no picture & no instructions on how to fix the problem. Likewise with the fireplace - Saturday was cool & damp and a fire would have been nice. The handle for the flue did not appear to work so we didn't try. The grill worked but needed a serious cleaning. Also, the house needed dusting & it would be nice to at least have salt & pepper in the house for cooking. We brought food but didn't think we'd need to bring the S&P. Overall it wasn't the best of the bunch - we've rented for the last 9 years from VRBO and this was the first time we were sadly disappointed.Recommended for: Adventure seekers.

Three friends from High School stayed for two nights - a Lady's Weekend - the TV did not work despite it having power & there were no instructions to help identify the problem; the fireplace was not used for lack of instruction and while the gas grill did work - it was quite dirty and rusting out. There were no trash bags and not even salt & pepper - which we would have brought with us had we known. The refrigerator is tiny but adequate - the freezer door barely closed so lucky we didn't have much need of it and a bag of ice won't fit. The most distressing part was the furniture - or lack thereof - in the living room. Three chairs - that's it and only one of them was comfortable. We kept rotating seats so we had a few minutes of comfort. And, last but not least the dust & dust bunnies...house did not seem to have been cleaned in some time. The deck was great - small view of the lake but for us it rained all day Saturday so sitting out wasn't an option. Beds were adequate & owner graciously let us use the sheets which we washed & put away before leaving. The restaurant Jennie Rae's on Rt 20 & Wiley Rd was GREAT - good food & reasonable prices. Car parking is away from the door and one in our party has difficulty walking. I personally would not rent this home again.Recommended for: Adventure seekers.

Why the Owner Chose Rolling Prairie:
The Cozy Cottage is located in a town called Rolling Prairie, which is just north of LaPorte - or just south of New Buffalo, MI. The cottage is situated next to Saugany Lake, which is wonderful for swimming and rafting. There are no speed boats allowed on the lake, so it’s real nice for children or relaxing. The cottage itself was a house used in Chicago during the World's Fair, and was moved to Saugany Lake - so it's older - with add-ons. The cottage has kitchen (stove, refrigerator, microwave), living room with stone fireplace, enclosed porch which we use as a dining/game room, and two bedrooms downstairs. One of the downstairs bedrooms has a wash machine in it and a fold away cot. The other bedroom has a queen size bed. No DVD player yet, but we're working on that for the future. There is no internet access at this point. Most people don't even want the TV when they're in the country, but we'll probably put internet in at some time. Cost is $75 per night. Check in at 3:00 p.m. and check out at 12:00 p.m. (noon).
