Welcome to your home in San Francisco, 2 minutes on foot to Ocean Beach
Location: Sunset, San Francisco, San Francisco Bay Area, California, USA (Close to Beach, Zoo, Golden Gate Park, Shopping & Transport) View Map
Accommodations: House, 2 Bedrooms + Other (See Description), 1.5 Baths (Sleeps 4-6)
What a piece of heaven on earth! Crack the windows and go to sleep to the sound of the waves at night.
Walk to the beach in 2 minutes. Go for a surf.
Go running, biking, or walking on the Great Highway nature trail.
Hop a bus or muni and take off for a day of city tours.
Rent a horse and go galloping on the beach. Take the kids to watch the paragliders, all within a 10 minute drive.
Nice private garden with gas grill & picnic table, roses and citrus trees, and patio heater for those cool nights under the stars. Completely fenced in, should you need to corral the kids or doggies.
Walk to Java Beach, for a morning cup of coffee, or the Bashful Bull for the best pancakes around.
So much to see and do in this corner of San Francisco, which gives you access to the awe (and ahhh...) of nature and the buzz of the City by the Bay, not to mention a quick getaway to wine country (less than an hour's drive, ask me for recommendations!).
The house is a beautiful example of 40's architecture with one bedroom up with a full bath, and one bedroom down with a 1/2 bath. We've got you stocked up with the beach chairs, blankets, and coolers. I even have a mountain bike for your use (with bike lock) to zoom up and down the Great Highway nature trail.
For the “automobile optional” crowd, we’ve prepared an extensive collection of what to do on foot, by metro or bus. The heat of the city is at your disposal while coming home to the cool ocean breeze and the sound of the ocean will make you fall into one of your deepest sleeps. 4 blocks to the Muni, L-Taraval gets you right downtown. 1-2 blocks to several bus connections.

Here's the Beach! Luxury Home in the Sunset, at Ocean Beach
Year Purchased: 2005
Why the Owner Chose Sunset
I chose San Francisco for its diversity and beauty. I love the international crowd it attracts as well as the young Americans called out to the great West.
I chose this home in the Sunset district for its proximity to the ocean, safe and quiet neighborhood (really safe! 1 neighbor is a fireman, the other a policeman!), I love the beach, the walking trails, the biking trails and so many close by attractions. The hustle and bustle of the rest of the city is either a quick car ride away, or easy by public transport. It's close to the highway system (101 N, or 280). The SFO airport is a 20 minute drive. I also chose it because it's on the opposite side of town from Fisherman's Wharf. You can have it when you want it, and then you can set your sights on something other than cotton candy and cheap souvenirs (sorry...!).
The Unique Benefits at this House
Its such a short walk to the beach, there is no excuse for not going every day. Organic market --on foot. Great pizza, Thai, Mexican --on foot. Surfer bar --on foot. Surfer coffee shop with free internet --on foot.
My favorite activity is my walk on the beach down to the Cliff House and back, or a bike ride to Golden Gate Park where absolutely everything from Buffalos to Museums, Japanese Tea Garden to Soccer fields abound. Go across the Golden Gate Bridge and head to Point Bonita Light House, Hike Mount Tamalpais, visit Muir Woods, or just stay home and light a fire!
Noriega Produce (415) 564-0370 One of the dying breeds of corner grocery stores, I really enjoy the organic selections and fresh baked items the family prepares.
Great little esoteric pizza place with good beer and wine selection 415 759 5752 Menu at http://www.pizzaplacesf.com/
Easily walkable diner. I like it for breakfast (great pancakes, and irish breakfast sausage). Kid friendly.
Watch out for the tiger exhibit (just kidding). Great activity for the kids on a clear day.
Great place to take the dog (off leash) without getting him/her in the water. Perched high above the ocean on a series of cliffs, Fort Funston used to house military bunkers to protect the coastline.
Nordstrom, Macy's --typical suburban shopping mecca, but located in San Francisco. Its the closest mall, but obviously the shopping downtown is to die for... (see Westfield Center).
Beach fire anyone? Pick up some firewood, wine, snacks, marshmallows, etc at the Safeway (47th and Funston) and walk down to the beach where you'll be in good company with other pyromaniacs.
Great sunset experience with a glass of wine and your partner on a clear evening. Not my favorite for food (pricey and not that great...)
Great views, as good as the Cliff House. Perfect for breakfast, lunch, dinner, as long as you're looking for pancakes or a burger. Obviously not gourmet cuisine, but nice little family atmosphere.
My favorite vantage point to see the city is right at the opening of the San Francisco Bay, on the Marin side. A functioning lighthouse, Point Bonita is only open to the public during visiting hours:
Smaller beach, primarly stone pebbles, beach glass, etc. very popular with the local surf community because of its sheltered and predictable surf. Great hiking, and a marine sanctuary/hospital.
For all things asian, plus a plethora of fresh fish, meats, veggies, fruits. This is generally the stop I make first.
My favorite local Thai place. Whether dining in or carrying out, its where I go in the 'hood to get great Thai food at reasonable prices... (do you notice a theme here?).
California Pacific Medical Center: 24 Hour Emergency Room Castro & Duboce Ave San Francisco, CA 94102 (415) 600-0600
Public transportation, currently 2$/ride (2 hours) exact change...
Owner's Map of Sunset
I've lived a good bit of my time outside of the USA, and LOVE to travel. The best way to see another country is through the eyes of a native, not a concierge! I love meeting new people and always seek to stay with friends or family so I get that "insider" perspective.
My background is in foreign languages, and software. I travel alot in my career, and have lived in Brazil, Mexico, Belgium, and Germany (in addition to the USA of course) I come from a big family, largely of Irish and German background.
I love San Francisco for its proximity to so much nature, while offering so much culture. I love my beach house and am constantly upgrading this or that. This year I installed a tankless water. No more racing to the shower to be the first person to get all the hot water!
