This is a charming rustic home with plenty of outdoor space..this is not a fancy home with all the granite and stainless steel but rather one that is very comfortable and full of unique items..especially liked the lighting and the tilework in the bathroom....It was also great to have a kitchen as I generally cook every evening (don't miss the Farmers Market in Monterey for fresh produce) Also having washer/dryer was very convenient so we could pack lightly. During our stay, the roses were just beginning to fade but they were still beautiful. This home is in a pretty populated area but surprisingly, it is very private - plenty of parking which is good since there are very narrow winding roads in this area. It is very close to Carmel by the Sea, Monterey (don't miss the Monterey Bay Aquarium) and wonderful walking trails at Point Lobos St Park.

On our very first morning at Vintage Oaks we awoke to the delightful recognition that we could happily stay forever. Time spent here is glorious in oh so many ways. The splendour of the garden in the morning, birds skipping through the bushes in dappled afternoon sun, sweet evenings by the fireplace, the gentle chirp of crickets and croak of frogs sullying us to sleep at day’s end. However brief, a stay at this beautiful cozy cottage is a sweet taste of forever time, never to be forgotten.

My wife and I and our dog have made the 1200 miles or so drive down from Vancouver, Canada, for four successive years to Vintage Oaks. I wonder why. Is it the whimsical charm of the secluded property? Is it the laid back ambience of Carmel Valley with its savoury restaurants and tasty offerings from the aromatic bakery? Is it the nearby Garland Ranch with its miles of hiking trails, some level, some steep ? Could it be the explosive drama of the creamy surf crashing down on the white sands of Carmel Beach and the promise of whale sightings on the renowned drive down to Big Sur ? Or, might the sheer class of Carmel town, with its tempting eateries and captivating art galleries, its mysterious pathways leading to grottos of flower bedecked shops, lock its lovely images in your mind and draw you back as it has ourselves ? Perhaps, it's the golf.....most affordable at the municipal course in Pacific Grove (magnificent ocean views), but less so at the famed Pebble Beach. Well, however you may spend your day, always to be anticipated is the return to cosy Vintage Oaks where, over a glass of wine, you will enjoy the serenity of the garden and mull over your good fortune in having found such a place.

This cottage was so wonderful to stay at, the time flew by to fast! The Cottage comes FULLY equipped, especially the kitchen!!! The grounds are beautiful and well kept. Being it was spring, the flowers were glorious, wisteria, lilac, roses, spire maderia and many other beautiful plants. There are so many comfy and private places to sit on this magnificent property. My dog and I enjoyed it so much, it was HARD to leave. The village is walking distance and if you get a permit you can hike at the Kahn Ranch(which is not as crowded as Garland) all the way to Garland Park which is more crowded. The beach is 20 min's away. There are many great restaurants within 5 min's drive. And after a long relaxing day you fall into a most delightfully comfortable bed equipped with flannel sheets. I have rented many houses and this one I would definitely return to, it's a keeper!! Also the owner is a multi talented woman, the lamp shades are all made by Pamela and the decorating and gardening have also been created by Pamela. She's obviously a special woman with great talents!!! Thank you for having us!

We wanted a month in the area and Vintage Oaks proved to be the perfect place for what we needed - a place to relax at the end of the day with a fire and a glass of wine. Garland Park - an off-leash, dog friendly park with 50 miles of trails is the perfect way to start each day and it's only 8 minutes away. This is the kind of place where you can feel at home. It is not upscale with every granite and stainless feature - it is a well appointed, clean cottage with pretty much everything you need for cooking - has laundry facilities and is very, very private even though it is on a populated street nestled down near a creek with a comnpletely private back yeard and the soothing sound of the creek on the other side of the hedge.. Carmel village is filled with great restaurants, shops and characters and still retains some of the 'pre-tourist' culture if you take the time to walk around and chat with locals. Carmel Beach is just 25 minutes away and around sunset the place is packed with people, off-leash dogs, local characters and people strolling with glasses of wine. Conversations with these people are great. We plan on returning again for a month next year and Clint Eastwood had better be there at Mission Ranch this time!

this place is great! and there's someone else that thinks this place is great and that's my 16# dachshund....he loved it! this place is a good size for a couple but the amount of outside space is awesome! it's just enough for a small/medium size dog to roam around during the day. and it was perfect for our little guy - he absolutely loved roaming around the area! i would definitely recommend vintage oaks for your carmel stay!

Thank you so much for sharing your cottage with us. It was cozy and well appointed, with everything we needed to enjoy our stay. The gardens surrounding the cottage were really enjoyable. Everytime we walked around the yard, we noticed something new. The location worked out really well for us. It was convenient to Carmel, Big Sur, and the other sights of the area, but offered us the quiet, county atmosphere of Carmel Valley. We were pleased to find the there were several excellent restaurants within a mile or two of the house. We can't wait for our next visit!

Lovely, peaceful cottage and property! Cozy, cute and very clean with all the amenities (missed a dishwasher but we're used to that anyway). Pamela was prompt via email with any questions and concerns. Wished we spent some time in Carmel Valley to see the shops and wineries but Carmel Beach was calling. The place was large enough to accommodate us and our dogs. (The backyard is pretty well fenced but there is one area that could be an issue if you have a really talented fence jumper.) Backyard bird watching and listening to the crickets in the evening were the highlights of our stay! The place was just what we needed to get away and will definitely come back! Thanks Pamela!

Just spent five nights at Vintage Oaks on a working vacation. Though the cottage is in the heart of Carmel Valley on a crowded street, you would never know it. The cottage is on a large, charmingly landscaped lot that ensures maximum peace and privacy, so much so that I ended up working outside every day once the sun came out. Pamela was kind enough to let me bring my dogs and we started each day and ended it at the the nearby, off-leash Garland Ranch. (My retriever was so happy the river was running!) When I was done working for the day the cottage had all the amenities I wanted - full kitchen, wi-fi, Direct TV, fireplace, and at the very end of the day, a very comfortable bed. The cottage is clean, quiet, and private, plus is has the coolest collection lamps I've ever seen in a VRBO! Thanks, Pamela. I'm looking forward to coming back soon.

My wife and young son and I (and our dog) stayed here for three nights in August 2012 and it was FANTASTIC! The house has lots of charm and great detail and the large fenced yard is landscaped and very comfortable with many chairs/benches in which to unwind. Everything was very clean with great attention to detail and the owner (Pamela) is fantastic, she really wants her guests to have a good time. Great food is about a mile or so away in Carmel Valley village, pizza and steaks and lots of wine tasting, too. Perfect weather; S. Cal was in the 100's and Carmel Valley was in the 70's or low 80's and not as gloomy as Carmel by the Sea (15 min away). In summary, this is a great getaway house and Pamela is 5-stars, can't wait to go back!

It’s an absolutely charming place that offers an enchantingly calming get-away. Located close to Carmel Valley Village -- which gives a respite from the charming but equally chilling coastal fog just a few miles away in -- this immaculate and thoroughly equipped cottage was a great home base for not only the Monterey Peninsula (Carmel, Monterey, Pacific Grove) but also Big Sur and local wineries. Other reviewers have mentioned this, but I’ll add to the chorus: the cottage offers delightful outdoor seating and dining areas; more than one morning was spent enjoying the sun and watching hummingbirds hovering near flowers.

Beautiful setting, lovely home, furnished to reflect the period and location. Minutes from the village and unobtrusive fencing means we could include our blind little dog, who loved it. Going back there ASAP--can cook in. go out, laze around on the beautiful patios or go to Pt. Lobos or the beach. We have been coming to Carmel for some time now and this is definitely the most satisfying place we have stayed. Felt at home as soon as we pulled into the driveway. Were tempted to email the owners ":hand over the deed now and no one gets hurt"--but we knew that was only in our dreams.

The Vintage Oaks Cottage was sweet place to stay for 4 nights. Secluded and private. The place is almost at the end of a side canyon in Carmel Valley. Big screen and Direct TV but we never turned it on. We just read books or sat in the sun in between cloud bursts. The garden is easy care succulents and Wisteria that runs along the front fence just ready to bloom. the garden is filled with many, many "garden ornaments" hiding everywhere. Inside is outfitted with "old west" collectables. There is a full kitchen but we just did breakfast and sandwiches for lunch. If you are looking for big and fancy look somewhere else -- This is a quaint, comfortable, and enjoyable little place to stay when you just need to get away. The price per night made this an easy stay.

A serene and lovely retreat from the more touristy Carmel. Loved the more rustic nature of Carmel Valley, especially Garland Ranch. My husband, dog and I went almost every morning to energize with a hike (all 3 of us) and relax and tire out (the dog). Also loved the quiet garden spots and appreciated the artistic touches throughout the cottage. Saying this cottage is charming does not say enough.

The Vintage Oaks Cottage is as charming as advertised, and then some. We enjoyed our stay (8 nights), relaxed, slept very well on the comfortable bed, and took advantage of the owner's suggestions of places to visit and eat. The cottage is rustic in decor, but functions well (washer/dryer on site, heater keeps the place nice and cozy) and is set on a truly lovely, private piece of property. If you are eager to just relax, read, sit in the sun and unwind, this is the spot for you!

Having stayed at Vintage Oaks Cottage for five weeks, my wife and I (and Aussie, Ajax) recommend it to anyone seeking a well maintained, attractive brick vacation home. The beautiful garden is a real plus as part of a property on a quiet road next to a stream. The owners, Pamela and Bruce, are accessible and will assure that your needs are their priority. The proximity to Garland Ranch and the nearby Carmel Valley Community Park, both allowing off-leash walks with Ajax, the charm and excellent restaurants in the Village of Carmel Valley, and the genuinely friendly people will help make your visit special. We will return next year. Rolf Zerges, Ph.D Keuka Park, New York

This property is down in the canyon of Carmel Valley, lots of privacy amidst the neighborhood, beautiful vegetation in area and in the garden. The cottage is cowboy/antiques/collectibles that can entertain you just to check it all out! The garden is a succulent paradise and again with many funky collectibles. It is fenced in which was great for our dog to lounge around without escaping!!!!!! And so close to Carmel, Big Sur, Nepenthe's and beautiful beaches everywhere. The owner and caretaker were very helpful and available for questions.

My wife and I stayed in the cottage for 3 days this past week, and I must say, wow, wow, wow! What a wonderful mini-vacation. This cottage is perfect for a couple wanting to "get away from it all", as it is definitely located on a quiet road, yet very handy to Carmel Valley village (just a couple of minutes away). The cottage is not huge, but is very well designed and just feels right. This is no cookie-cutter tract home. The owners have done a terrific job decorating the cottage in an "old west" theme, with lots of great lamps and furniture that made us want to just sit and read (or surf the web--wifi was very fast). But we were surprised at how much time we spent just staring at the fire in the wonderful fireplace! The fireplace really added to the inviting ambience of the place. The kitchen, while small, has everything you need; my wife cooked a couple of great meals with no problem. The front and back yards are beautiful, peaceful, and private. We have stayed at several VRBO homes over the years, but we've never been more impressed than with this one. We definitely plan to come back again.

Vintage Oaks was our next to last stay after 10 months of VRBO'ing it around the US and Canada. The house is just right on the inside and the location in the village of Carmel Valley is perfect. But the best thing about Vintage Oaks is the outdoor living space. It is truly a paradise of seclusion, surrounded by gardens and hillside and stillness. We look forward to coming back!!!

We have stayed 3 nights over the beautiful weekend in April and couldn't have been happier. The place had everything we needed plus a splendid outdoor space. The surrounding area was so beautiful with the sound of creek, beautiful spring flowers, big trees, and the birds. I even took a little bicycle ride from the house to charming town of Carmel Valley. A few minutes drive down the house will take you to very charming Carmel Valley downtown where you could do a little shopping, dining, wine tasting etc. This place was so perfect since we always look for a quiet place with great outdoor space. We absolutely loved the place and would love to come back again and again and again! Thank you!!

We stayed at the Vintage Oaks Cottage the second week in January. "We" being my husband, myself and our dog, Maggie. We have stayed in a number of VRBO properties and our experience has been positive. The Vintage Oaks Cottage is very special. The description is accurate. The pictures really don't do it justice......even though this is a one bedroom, den....it seems larger. The garden surrounds the house on three sides. Even in January it was lovely, peaceful and private. Maggie enjoyed her completely fenced in yard-away-from-home. The owners are quick to respond to any and all questions and/or concerns.

I should have written this review long ago...We visited Vintage Oaks Cottage in September of 2010. Not only did we fall in love with Carmel Valley, but with Vintage Oaks Cottage as well. Amazing, private space located on off a windy back road, not far from the village itself. Comfy bedroom, and adorably decorated and clean. Lots to look around at, artistic touches, both inside and out. Would definitely come back and stay here when in the Valley again. Thank you for this wonderful experience.

Our week long stay at Vintage Oaks Cottage was a delight from the moment we turned onto the Live Oaks covered road to the cottage! The cottage is cozy and comfortable, with fireplace, cushy leather couches and chairs, very COMFY bed, and lovely, private sitting areas throughout the yard where one can soak up the sun, enjoy some shade, or hot tub it under the stars at night! Loved the view from the kitchen sink window, loved having a clothes washer and dryer too! Each room had the owners personal artisan touch in her hand made antique replica lampshades, simply BEAUTIFUL! We loved the laid back, country feel of the Village of Carmel Valley.....where the sun DOES shine, as opposed to Carmel, along the foggy coast! Laid back, friendly, countrified, yet all the refinements of shops, wine tastings, galleries and more. Make sure to stop in "The Lights Of Rome" shop to see gorgeous imports from Italy AND lampshades by Pamela! Dining ,as per recommended by Pamela, her favorite, dine at the Cafe Rustica......wonderful ambiance and food!...right next door to "The Lights of Rome". Enjoy a great hamburger at the Running Iron, and treat yourself to a decadant Ollala berry pie from the well stocked local grocery and deli, Carmel Valley Market. Be sure and visit the Earthbound Organic Gardens and Farmstand for some great organic produce fresh from their fields and de-lish baked goods and salads and a bouquet of flowers for the dining room table, just down the road towards Carmel. This was a great location to tour the nearby by attractions of Carmel, Monterey and even San Francisco up the coast a ways. We came home from our lovely stay at Vintage Oaks Cottage, renewed, refreshed, relaxed, full of good country air..............and ready to move there!!!!! Thank you Pamela and Bruce for sharing your home with us. Our first visit to California was certainly a memorable one. The places we visited, which were only a short ride away, were spectacular! But the best part was coming home at night to this magical place! We felt so comfortable here and so at home. Such charm and character! We will return!!! Soon we hope!

I had a wonderful week at your cotttage with my 2 dogs. It was lovely, nicely appointed, and had a very cute back yard which the dogs thoroughly enjoyed lazing around in. Cute and comfortable! Had hoped to re-visit the cottage again this year, but family emergencies prevented it. The owner was very understanding and I will definitely come back when things settle down. Loved the area so much that I would love to retire there! Would highly recommend it!

I recently travelled to the Carmel area with my girlfriend for the U.S. Open. We stayed for 8 nights and enjoyed every moment. We told each other that staying at the Vintage Oaks made the trip memorable. The cottage is more beautiful than the pictures portray. I would stay here upon returning to Carmel for a future trip.

Pamela....We had the nicest three day stay over the Memorial Day weekend. The cottage and grounds are lovely; and the location is perfect for visits to Carmel restaurants, the Monterey Aquarium, hiking trails, wineries and much more. Very, very peaceful with owls hooting, frogs croacking, and hummingbirds darting about all from the comfort of the hot tub. We'll be back soon! Thanks again. PS...Houdini gave it a four paw review!

We had a great stay at Vintage Oaks cottage. We particularly enjoyed relaxing in the beautiful backyard listening to the birds and the creek. The area is very dog friendly. Our "kids" had fun in nearby Garland Ranch park and Carmel beach. Our only regret was our stay was too short!

We love the Carmel Valley! So much more layed back than the Village - not to mention the superior weather! Bruce and Pamela's cottage was just what my husband, doggie and I were looking for. Pet friendly, quaint, and so very whimsical. :) Thank you for sharing your lovely home with us!

Sweet, comfortable, calming, peaceful, romantic These words just begin to describe how lovely our stay was at the Vintage Cottage. My husband and I spent two memorable days waking up to birds chirping and lovely flowers, sunshine and beauty. It was our 10th wedding anniversary vacation and our time in Carmel Valley was truly special. We took the hike to the secluded waterfall, grilled a perfect steak we picked up at the local grocery, enjoyed the fireplace and (my husband) wireless internet access. The bed was wonderfully comfortable and the bedroom so cute and cozy. But best of all...it felt like home and made us feel less like visitors and more like locals. And close to Carmel and Monterey (wow, the aquarium) and the beautiful vistas of the coast. We feel so fortunate we had the opportunity to anchor ourselves in such a lovely home.

I usually stay in Carmel, but it's Carmel Valley for me now! I did not expect this property to be as nice as it was for the price, we were VERY pleasantly surprised. Carmel Valley weather is superior to Carmel. This cottage would easily rent for double in Carmel as well. This really was the cutest and most comfortable place. The big garden was delightful, very lush, private and secluded. The cottage has everything you would need, and is decorated beautifully. Lots of special antique and vintage items, definitely NOT your usual rental furnished from Ikea. The bed is particularly comfortable, and we loved the views of the "Vintage Oaks" from every window. We hope stay again this winter

Vintage Oaks was a perfect spot for my husband and me. Lots of space inside and outside, all of the advertised amenities and a few unexpected ones too. Very quiet, private and relaxing. We liked the vintage and antique furnishings. The location was good for hiking and biking in the Big Sur and Monterey areas and then returning for a home cooked meal or enjoying the excellent restaurants in the village. We hope to be able to visit again.

what a neat place to stay! the cottage is adorable, with all of the amenities. the property is nicely landscaped, and we took advantage of looking at the stars from the hot tub at night while listening to the nearby brook. it is VERY close to some restaurants, wineries, and saloons, and a short ride to many more. also within a short distance are many things to do and see; we enjoyed some hiking. would definitely stay here again.

Pamela, We would like to thank you for sharing your home with us. It was a real treat to be able to stay in a home and garden, which has had such loving attention. We have totally enjoyed it. You left sufficient gems that we would look up and find something new and interesting and yet not feel overpowered by it. Just the perfect mix. Your lamps in particular are enchanting. Unfortunately I had to work while at the cottage and the WiFi has made my life so much easier, and if one has to work, this is a nice place to do it. Many many thanks. We will leave your house in great shape for your next guest. Belinda and Martin

We felt totally at home at Vintage Oaks Cottage. There's something magical about it! We REALLY enjoyed the hot tub, the comfortable bed, the cozy couches, the beautiful garden, the gorgeous tile in the bathroom...I could go on and on. Everything we needed was there. Thank you so much--we'll be back again someday!

Pamela, After spending a long weekend at your cozy cottage, We would like to thank you for listing and sharing your home with others. The atmosphere was so charming and comfortable. It really was like staying at a friends home - not a rental. And because you allow pets - our doggie (the most adorable black lab in the world) had a great time too. Wireless Internet (WiFi), satellite TV, stereo, CD player, movies, books, etc. - doesn't get better than all of this. Did I mention the peaceful and beautiful back yard? Wow! We'll be back!

Hi Pamela, We are back in the good old Uk now freezing cold and quite wet with gray cold rain. How great it was to stay at your place, there was only one problem, we did not stay long enough. Both Judith and I have decided if we return to California next year we will be in touch with you again and maybe book a full week this time. Your place is just adorable. Thanks from two very very very satisfied customers. Dave and Judith Maclean
