Accommodations:  Cabin, 3 Bedrooms + Convertible bed(s), 2 Baths (Sleeps 6-8)

Keywords:  Cabin Wears Valley Smokies Smokey Mountains Tennessee cabin Rental cabin Smokies rental cabin

This private cabin is not in a resort or a subdivision; it's a second home, not a commercial rental. The cabin is located on 8 acres at the back of Wear's Valley on the edge of Cove Mountain, with spectacular views of the mountain and across the valley to the west. The cabin is in a beautiful pastoral setting overlooking a tranquil scene with pastures, stone fences and grazing farm animals. Few cabins offer such seclusion and views.

The front of the cabin has continuous slider windows (over 50 ft. of glass) which afford uninterrupted views of the surrounding landscape. These windows create a porch across the front of the cabin, similar to a solarium, yet still allow the area to be heated and cooled. And yes, the pasture below the cabin really does have cattle behind a stone fence!

Fully furnished kitchen, HDTV, hot tub with a view, game room with pool table, screened back porch dining option, private sun deck, even a grill with a view in front of the cabin. The morning view from the bed in the master bedroom is exceptional. Wake up and enjoy the views before you even get out of bed!

The cabin is only 15 minutes from Pigeon Forge or Townsend. Immediate access to the park is a 5 minute drive to the "secret entrance" near Greenbrier School and Metcalf Bottoms. Local roads also allow access to Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg while bypassing the traffic on the parkway. However, all amenities, including restaurants and groceries, are available right in Wear's Valley.

The cabin is located at about 2200' of elevation within sight of the Great Smoky Mountain National Park boundary. This setting affords panoramic views of the mountains and across the valley to the west. The cove where the cabin is located is very private and well off the beaten path. The cabin is not near any developed resort or subdivision; the setting is still quite rural. There are no neighbors to the rear between the cabin and the park boundary.

Also see our beach listing in Sandestin Resort; VRBO #105873; HomeAway #388070. Sugar white sand, crystal clear Gulf water and a luxury townhome; big back yard on a bay front golf course in a private gated community.

Directions: From Pigeon Forge Parkway, turn west (pass the B. King, away from the malls) at red light #3 onto Wears Valley Road (U.S. 321/TN 73). Stay on Wears Valley Road for several miles; winding past the Cove Creek Cascades and into the valley. Just when the vista opens up in Wear’s Valley, turn at the first left onto Valley View Road. Valley View will turn right just before a church, and then left at Bryan Road. Stay on Valley View until the intersection of Valley View, Sugar Camp Road, and Covemont Road. Turn left onto Sugar Camp Circle. When the road soon forks, take the left fork. Pass a small stone house on the right, then take the circle around a bend to the right. When you pick up a stone fence on the right along the pasture, the drive is the third drive on the left. There is a small white storage building in the lower pasture. The cabin is set uphill and well back from the road up a long grassy drive (the drive is a private road - Swearingen Way). If you pass a stone house on the left, you went one driveway too far.

Secluded Wear's Valley Cabin - Views, Hdtv, Hot Tub, Game Room

Year Purchased: 2005

Why the Owner Chose Wears Valley

From my earliest childhood memories, my family often visited the Great Smoky Mountain National Park. During undergraduate school, I visited the park while camping and then while backpacking along the Appalachian Trail. Later still, I would paddle whitewater kayaks on the local rivers. My parents retired to their second home in Wear’s Valley in 1983. I was then working for the National Park Service during graduate school at the University of Washington in Seattle. When I moved back east, it was a given that I would eventually have a cabin in the Smokies to share with my own family. Access to the largest wilderness in the eastern United States is very important. The tranquility and beauty of this setting are forever an inspiration. Now my children are learning to love these mountains, rivers, and wilderness.

The Unique Benefits at this Cabin

The front of the cabin has continuous slider windows (over 50 ft. of glass) which afford uninterrupted views of the surrounding landscape. These windows create a porch across the front of the cabin, similar to a solarium, yet still allow the area to be heated and cooled. The master bedroom has a private seating area off this living room viewing space and shares these panoramic views to the west and south. Visitors literally awaken with views of the mountains from the master bed. A writing desk in one corner nook of the living room creates a private contemplative space. The entire area in the front of the cabin is designed and furnished to enhance relaxation while enjoying the exceptional, open mountain views offered by this secluded location. Beyond the outstanding views, the greatest benefit of staying at this cabin is the privacy and seclusion afforded by this rural, undeveloped location. The immediate access to the park and other amenities without traffic doesn't hurt either.... We also offer access to an exceptional luxury condo right on the golf course at Sandestin in Florida (VRBO Listing #105873). Please check out that listing. Our goal is to develop a personal relationship with repeat visitors who share our two vacation hideaways year after year.

Owner's Map of Wears Valley

I had been going to the Smokies since early childhood; these mountains have always been a part of my life. As a child in New Orleans, Boy Scouts took me outdoors. These experiences lead to an interest in backpacking and whitewater paddling early in my adult life. Living on the Gulf Coast, the Smokies were the nearest wilderness destination. Later as a professor, my academic background was greatly influenced by exposure to the joys of outdoor activities in wilderness. Now this mountain cabin offers an opportunity to share this love of nature and wilderness.

Absolutely LOVED the cabin, the view and the location. Only a short distance to all the attractions but yet secluded with all the privacy anybody could ask for. Couldn't ask for a better owner to have dealings with. The tv channels didn't include some of the sports channels and we were going to miss watching Auburn and some other teams. One text message to the owner and pronto we had the channels by Saturday morning. We also got locked out of the cabin while we were there. One call to the owner and we were back in the cabin within minutes. The owners haven't been renting this cabin very long but I can tell from our stay that they are more than eager to please their renters. We have been going to the Smoky Mountains for 20+ years and I can honestly say this is the best cabin we have stayed in. We definitely plan on staying there again. Thanks Tommy and family for a wonderful vacation.

We stayed at the cabin July 24-Aug 1. Really enjoyed our time at the cabin. Its a beautiful property and in a great location. Unfortunately, we have had some issues with the owner, Tommy. We have yet to receive our security deposit back despite leaving the property the exact way we found it. Also, he is very hard to get a hold of regarding this issue. Despite that it was a great time. Coming back again in November but staying somewhere else.

Owner response:I was on an extended wilderness backpacking trip when this guest departed, which was why I took some time to reply to his emails. A couple of days after his arrival, the guest had requested a service call to address an issue concerning the hot tub. The tub pump motor was jammed by an article of clothing & was ultimately replaced, which is an expensive repair. Although the rental agreement calls for the guest to pay for such damage, I decided the "the customer is always right". I refunded the entire damage deposit soon after my return from the backpacking trip.

This is the second year for us to stay at Tommy's cabin. My family of four love it here. We enjoy the privacy and the views are awesome. We have stayed here twice and will go back next year. The drive to pigeon forge or gatlingburg is a short distance and the views are great. We enjoy the cows and the little donkey around the corner. The cabin is nice and clean. We have plenty of everything provided for us. Thanks Tom for making it easy to have a great vacation. Truely a home away from home.

Beautiful cabin

The cabin is lovely, well-equipped, and exact like the pictures. We enjoy the exceptional view of the mountain and fresh air. The sunrise and sunset are beautiful. Very nice weather, sunny and breezy, when we were there. We took a walk along the route toward the main road and had a great time with fresh scent of nature, peaceful sound of the small creek, some farm animals to see along the way. The living room is spacious and all the beds are very comfortable. It was a fun weekend for us! Thanks Tommy again for renting us this beautiful and relaxing place.

Fabulous hideaway for couples, family or friends

Guest: Mountain Lover (Nashville, TN)
Date of Stay: 09/03/10 Review Submitted: 09/23/10

Great place for a girls weekend getaway. Beautiful & cozy, with all the comforts of home. Really enjoyed soaking in the hot tub observing the cows grazing in the sunset. Relaxing on the porch swing with a cup of coffee watching the sunrise was spectacular. The rustic look of the basement made playing a game of billiards even more fun while listening to your favorite style of music on satellite TV. Stereo, large flat-screen TV, and spacious upstairs living room was comfy for late night movies, etc. Outside grilling and the fully supplied kitchen made preparing your own meals convenient. Wonderful shopping available with a short drive to Townsend, Pigeon Forge, or Gatlinburg. Highly recommend this hideaway for couples, family or just friends who enjoy the peace, quiet and beauty of mother nature.

My hubby and I spent a wonderful week here in September. The house was beautiful, better than the pictures, and spotless. The view was tremendous, the location was perfect. Away from the congestion of Pidgeon Forge/Gatlinburg (we're not much into touristy stuff), and close to the Park by way of Wear Gap Road. What a time saver. Very, very comfortable. We saw bears at Cades Cove, hiked along peaceful mountain streams, biked around Townsend, took tons of pictures. The Carriage House in Townsend had good food, and we enjoyed Tuckaleechee Caverns also. Tommy was easy to work with, and I'd recommend this house to anyone - you can't go wrong.

We had a wonderful weekend in a beautiful cabin!! Tommy was a pleasure to work with. The cabin was immaculate and so very comfortable. The view was absolutely amazing. My dad parked himself in a rocking chair in front of the large expanse of windows, and we nearly had to tip the chair over to get him to move. The location of the cabin suited us well because we were able to enjoy the best of both worlds--the busyness of Pigeon Forge and the beauty of Townsend. We visited Cades Cove and saw a BEAR! We are already making plans for next summer. Thank you so much for sharing your cabin with us.

Our family was looking for a cabin out of the way to share the 4th of July weekend with some friends. We found a gem in this place! What a pleasant, peaceful stay in this spacious cabin! We were even able to watch some fireworks over the mountains from the living room windows. The quaint town of Townsend is just a short drive as well as the much more busy Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg. We enjoyed time in Cades Cove, too. All of us can't wait to get back up there again. Tommy was a pleasure to work with. He has a true appreciation for what the mountains have to offer naturally and it shows in his wonderful cabin.

Our family of five took a last minute vacation detour to the Mountains and absolutely loved our stay in Wear's Valley and in this cabin. It was recommended to us by a friend who had rented it earlier. The location was great; it was central to anywhere you wanted to go- Pigeon Forge, Gatlinburg, Cades Cove (there was even a Kroger and Wal-mart close by). The view from the cabin was gorgeous; we cooked out everynight. The kids loved playing in the nearby field in the evening hunting for rabbits and fire flies. The inside of the cabin was very nice, loved that the Master was on the main floor and the other bedrooms were downstairs. We went white water rafting, hiking, saw several black bears and lots of deer at Cades Cove, and of course did the touristy Dollywood thing. We look forward to coming back and will definitely stay here again when we do...
