'Lake View House' - Family and Pet-Friendly -Easy Dock Access
- Minimum stay:2 nights
- Internet:Yes
- Pets allowed:Yes
- Wheel chair accessible:No
'Lake View House' overlooks beautiful Claytor Lake. This modern 4 bedroom home is situated on 5 acres of pastoral land across a private road from Claytor Lake. Located in a quiet, residential neighborhood, it has all the conveniences of a full house with the feel of a vacation retreat.
The owners have 2 children and 2 dogs themselves so they are very welcoming to families and dogs. There is a huge yard for them to run and play. Games and movies are also available.
You will be amazed at the large, newly added kitchen with all the latest upgrades, impressed with the beautiful hardwood floors, and comfortable using the double-sided wood-burning stone fireplace.
Walk or drive less than 5 minutes to the dock and lake access. You can use the dock to fish, dock your boat or just relax. Because of the peaceful setting, we request quiet gatherings and no house parties.
Perfect location for lodging for those home VT and RU sporting events and graduations! No crowds, no motels and less traffic by traveling uncrowded, rural roads. (We recommend you book more than a year in advance for graduations and as soon as sports schedules are released.)
And what a special place for a family gathering spot for Thanksgiving and Christmas!!
'Lake View House' is located on the same private road as 'Lakewood Lodge' and managed by the same friendly folks.
The managers live close by and can be there quickly should the need arise.

My family and 2 dogs enjoyed our stay. The kitchen was very well stocked. The only negative was the long trip down the hill to get to the dock and lake.Recommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers, pet owners, families with young children, girls getaway.
Owner response: We are so glad you enjoyed your stay! If I could move the house closer to the dock, trust me, I would! And I assume everything is relative because "relatively speaking" it is "easy lake access" compared to most of the rental properties here at the lake. We have always offered golf cart assistance to anyone in need of the services; elderly, physically challenged or those carrying small children. I urge future guests to notify of this need when you make your reservations.

We thoroughly enjoyed spending the weekend in this home. It was so cozy and modern and clean. The kitchen was beautiful and huge. The yard was very big and allowed our kids to play all day. Just steps from the lake. We are already planning our next stay.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, pet owners, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.

We very much enjoyed the time in Lake View House and highly recommend this home. I have stayed in multiple on-line rentals with varying experiences, but this was exceptional. The house was very clean, the linens were fresh, and the kitchen was wonderful to work in. We were here for a VT Spring family weekend and I needed to make several dishes for a pig roast at VT. I couldn't have had better working conditions outside of my own home! The kitchen was well supplied, had a wonderful gas stove with 5 burners and extensive counter space. Our only regret was that the weather was very chilly and therefore we didn't have the chance to enjoy the dock or bonfire area. We would highly recommend this home to large families or two familes vacationing together. Thanks to the Vaughans!Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, pet owners, romantic getaway, girls getaway.

We had a wonderful reunion made possible by Sherry and Jerry Vaugh, owners, who bent over backwards to make our vacation possible. The property was more than adequate, gourmet kitchen with lots of space for gathering. The living room was spacious and enjoyed by the young people with an assortment of DVD's and games. The dock was walkable and the Vaughs also had room for parking in front of their house. The dock was located in their back yard on the lake which could be a problem if you want the dock closeby but it worked for most of us. We also rented the Lakewood House for the actual reunion which had a great front porch for catching up with our relatives. I ordered nice weather and it was delivered! One of our cousins stayed at a B&B nearby.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, pet owners, romantic getaway.

We enjoyed time with our family and friends at the Lake View House. The kitchen was wonderful to cook in and the kitchen table was a great place to gather together for meals and games. The close proximity to the New River Trail was nice. And, we thoroughly enjoyed our afternoons on the dock and swimming in the lake. However, we would have liked the Lake View House's property to have been mowed for our stay. We would definitly consider coming back here and recommend this property to others looking to stay somewhere with pets and a large group. Overall, it was a wonderful weekend and place to stay! We hope to see the finished patio in the future!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, families with teenagers, pet owners, families with young children, girls getaway.
Owner response: We certainly agree and usually mow right before each arrival. Unfortunately, it rained the entire day before your arrival and we did not want to mow while you were in residence. It has been a challenge to have the lawn always ready with the copious amounts of rain we have been enjoying this spring.

I live in Georgia and my sister lives in Pennsylvania. We've been looking for a good place to meet halfway and visit for a couple of days. We found it at Lakeview Lodge. My sister brought her 10 year old daughter and our mother and I brought my son and his 8 year old daughter. So there were 6 of us. Since it was the week after Christmas (we stayed for 3 nights) and it was chilly, we mostly stayed indoors. But we did go visit the owner's dock on the lake (Jerry lent us his golf cart and his dog Jake jumped aboard for short visit - what a sweetie). The girls insisted on a bonfire one afternoon in the outdoor pit and they enjoyed that. ALL the girls enjoyed having jacuzzi tub soaks a couple of times each. What a deal our stay was. The cost of one hotel room and we got a whole house! The homemade apple butter that Jerry and Sherry make is wonderful (lots of cinnamon). The lodge was extremely clean and had all the furnishings and kitchen appliances/accessories we could need (we cooked all our meals and didn't go out to eat). We're looking forward to another visit in the summer. Thanks Sherry and JerryRecommended for: Age 55+, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.

Our extended family (6 adults and 3 children) spent a weekend at the lakehouse before the holidays. The little ones especially enjoyed the lighted Christmas tree, and since we were celebrating the holiday a little early, Santa had a place to leave gifts! We all enjoyed the festive table settings with Christmas dishes. Sherry and Jerry had left lights on for our arrival. What a great welcome! The accomodations were exactly as stated. Everything was clean and well maintained - the kitchen was wonderful! This is a great place to stay. The views of the lake are wonderful.Recommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers, pet owners, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.

About: Peter, Susan, Andrew and Bethany Thompson relocated to Blacksburg from Southern California in May of 2006 for Susan's job. She is a member of the Blacksburg Junior Women's Club, an organization that gets involved with local service needs. Peter has an efficiency consulting business and has spent much of his time, over the past few years, adding on the beautiful kitchen and remodeling other parts of Lake View House. The kids keep us very busy with sports, swimming and dance. We have two young, rambunctious dogs, Bella and Cody, who always make our life interesting!
Why Claytor Lake:
We absolutely love the mountains and New River Valley area of Virginia and decided right away that this would be a wonderful place to retire when the time came. We first thought that we'd buy a piece of land on Claytor Lake and build a house later. When this awesome property became available, we jumped at the chance to own it. We haven't been disappointed!
The Unique Benefits at this House:
One of the best things about this property are the neighbors. We couldn't have asked for better. The mature trees, the expansive areas surrounding the house, as well as the views of the glistening lake through most every window in the house give us a feeling of serenity and provide us with a place to just breathe and escape back to nature with our children. We took about 6 months to plan the design of the kitchen and it has turned out to be one of our favorite places to hang out. Everyone seems to gather there and the mesmerizing view of the lake from the windows is awesome. We love having a place that friends and family can come and relax and enjoy the lake.
We hope that the people who come to stay at our home will enjoy it as much as we do.
