This house has been found ideal for the family reunion type of gathering. It is quaint and feels like home. Those who come to stay but are not around the house much are always regretful that they did not have enough time to spend just "hanging around". There is even a hammock to lay in inside! Many of our guests come to visit family who are living in the area and find the Guesthouse a relaxing and more than comfortable place to stay. Often people come for short term work commitments and bring family with them to enjoy the exciting towns and activities in the area. The wildlife is enjoyed by all and the peace and tranquility is missed when people leave. Most comment on how well they slept here!

Year Purchased: 1990
Cheryl built this Guest house in 1990 and slowly developed a part time B&B. When she moved out she turned it into a Guesthouse leaving it fully furnished. Professionally she is a Spanish teacher and for nearly 20 years she has mostly taught in the Middle and High Schools though also 1 year in pre-school, 3 years in the elementary school, and 2 years at the College level. She obtained her M.A. at SUNY Binghamton in 1992. Her thesis was a study on Mayan-speaking families and culture in the Yucatan of Mexico. Cheryl received a grant in 1996 to work in Mexico and also taught one year in Chile through the Fulbright Teacher Exchange Program. She has also traveled or worked in: Dominican Republic, Guatemala, Peru, Bolivia, Argentina and Uruguay. She continues to build a business teaching adults and children of all ages. She also attended Universidad de Salamanca Spain, living there for 8 months. Cheryl completed her undergraduate work at SUNY Brockport where she received a double major B.A. degree in Spanish as well as in Modern Dance. Dance and performance was her first love and she worked in Rochester NY as a performing artist for 6 years. Owning and running the Guesthouse has always been an enjoyable "extra job" and she hopes to someday run a visitors home in Mexico along with a learning institute. She lives with her husband in the Binghamton area and is the proud mother of a 3 year old son who she is raising bilingually.
Why the Owner Chose Ithaca
I own the house and presently do not live in it. I left it fully furnished because I rented it occasionally. Once I decided to establish it as a business, I improved the house. It offers a lot for those who wish to come stay in the popular Ithaca area and wish to try other than a hotel. It is though "out of town" which is lovely if you don't mind a 15 minute drive home! I love hosting people!
