Hola - your hosts are Alix & Emile (who also have Casa Tres Leones - on the hill above the village).
This quiet 'casita' is fully self contained and is a great way to find out what Ajijic offers for a holiday or for retirement. Ajijic (Aheeheek) dates back to the mid 16th century yet has all the amenities of the 21st century. Your casita provides all you need to enjoy your holiday or reconnaissance trip and is a comfortable base to explore the Lake Chapala area. Its Mexican style makes it different from home - local tiles and wash basins, tropical coloured garden - gardener provided. The maid visits once a week to take care of all the domestics!
The narrow cobblestone streets remind us of old Spain. The Lake is 'magical' and Family is the most important part of village life in Mexico - these people are so friendly and welcoming and you are just minutes from the new "Malecon" (promenade).
Wandering along thro' the village (on foot) is the best way to learn about Ajijic. There are many simple village homes right beside magnificent Colonial styled haciendas usually behind high walls. The gardens are special and in the town Plaza just a couple of minutes from your casita there is always something going on.
Ajijic still retains its charm as an artists' colony so you may be tempted to take home paintings, photographs, sculptures, woven pieces, pottery, jewelry, silver etc etc.
Wednesday is market day - a pleasant walk away and the LCS (Lake Chapala Society) is open Monday to Saturday - a meeting place for many North Americans with film and book library and many other services.
There are also many thermal spas nearby and it is just so inexpensive to treat yourself to a day spa or even to get some dental or surgery work done.
We will supply you with a list of our favourite drivers, restaurants, shops, outdoor market days and day outings to artistic and historical sites.
Everything is on one floor so it's easy to be mobile and it's a LEVEL walk to most places.
As mentioned above - maid and gardener are provided as is drinking water, gas, electricity and local phone calls. (A deposit is required if you wish to make international calls but these days people bring cell phones or use their laptop).
There are NO hidden charges.
You may even arrange to use the owners' pool - just a short walk or 2 minute drive away!

Why the Owner Chose Ajijic

Our casita is right in the village - it's in a quiet spot but you still know you are in a Mexican Village. We are only a short walk to the Plaza, the Lake and the new malecon (Promenade). There are lots of interesting restaurants and some bars within walking distance AND the people are so friendly.

The casita does not have a pool but Alix & Emile have a large house with a pool (Part of a B&B) that you may use

Alix and Emile are Australians lving in Mexico. Alix planned to work in Australia for 3 years when she went there from Scotland as a young adult. She stayed 39 years and considers herself to be an Aussie. Emile has spent most of his life there too even though he lived his childhood in Egypt and Jordan (dad was with the UN).
Their kids live in Sydney and Emile's family is mostly in Melbourne.
Their mission is to ensure you fall in love with Ajijic and Lake Chapala - like they did 6 years ago!!
