Leave scenic Route 1 and drive on a sand road over the Eskoot Creek and straight ahead is the Pacific Ocean only yards away. Willows hide the garden of 10 Calle del Pinos, the house is said to have been built after the 1906 earthquake and has been added to by artists and architects ever since.

The galley kitchen has a 6-burner Wolf range with a generous oven for families who like to cook and a dining room that is comfortable for two or ten. Decks and crafted Dutch doors on the lower level open on an enchanting garden featuring a pond and places to eat and sun in private. Fall asleep to the sound of Pacific Ocean waves and wake to birdsong and light streaming into large windows.

If you tire of sun, surf and long beach walks, drive south to museums, galleries and boutiques of San Francisco. Or go north to the Sonoma and Napa Valley wineries and world reknown restaurants. You can hike in the wilderness at the Point Reyes National Seashore, or bike on Mount Tamalpais to get a 360 degree view of the Bay Area. Or you can retreat to this hidden treasure.

Historic Charmer at Stinson Beach Weekly Only
5/5

So beautiful, so relaxing, just right

This house is responsible for renewing our whole family. The cozy feel inside complements the stunning (huge!) garden outside -- complete with fish pond and fire pit. With two young kids, it's a plus that the house doesn't open right onto the beach, and even better that the beach is only four or five houses away for short legs to walk. We like that it feels so secluded even though it's so close not only to the beach but also to the little town, its playground, and closest of all to the little ice cream shop/video rental place (called "Flying Pig") that makes for a fun evening jaunt. Our kids loved taking a pony ride at 5 Brooks Ranch a few miles north on Hwy 1 when the wind was too strong for beach play. When we didn't feel like cooking (on the cool commercial-grade gas stove), the Parkside Restaurant was a yummy kid-friendly solution -- a short walk on the beach away (bring flashlights to light the way home!). The hot tub in the garden with the sound of the waves provides that only-in-Marin experience. It's the perfect get-away -- couldn't recommend it strongly enough. Can't wait to go back!
