Loved the place it's right near everything but when u sit in the backyard you and the squirrels are in your own oasis..the pictures make it look smaller than what it is..great place for family visiting UF or just to get away..the neighbor next door can probably tell you the best fishing spots..all in all a great find in the Gainesville area..Recommended for: Tourists without a car, age 55+, families with teenagers, sightseeing, families with young children, pet owners, romantic getaway.

We stayed at third street cottage for a month with our two dogs and cat(needed special permission ) and had a very relaxing time. I walked the dogs in the neighborhood daily and felt quite safe. The cottage is exactly as advertised and is comfortable.Recommended for: Age 55+, pet owners.

This is a great rental property and the owners are most accommodating and responsive. The location is perfect for those visiting UF or Shands. It is walking distance to downtown, yet in a very quiet neighborhood. For those with pets, there is a big, fenced-in backyard. Highly recommend this rental.Recommended for: Tourists without a car, age 55+, sightseeing, pet owners.

How could a stay at a rental not be great when you have a welcome note, AND beer waiting for you in the fridge?? :) Everything was great, this little cottage was super clean and well supplied, the ability to do laundry was a plus, and it was also SO close to everything in downtown Gainesville - so nice and easy to pop out the door and have everything right there. Our friends stayed in the big house around the corner and it was fun to walk over for a hangout on their veranda. This was so much better than staying in a hotel, its been great working out the details with Lorraine over email, and we got to meet Shawn when we were leaving - a super cool guy. We will definitely stay again if we come back to Gainesville next year.Recommended for: Tourists without a car, girls getaway, pet owners.

The cottage was a cozy place to stay. It was everything that the description said. Very clean, well maintained and stocked with everything that anyone would need. It was perfect for us being there to attend a family wedding. The owner was a pleasure to do business with! I would highly recommend this property to you. Hurry and book your stay! As I said, we were there for a wedding so we were busy most of the weekend, but if you like nature Paynes Prairie is close. The rehearsal dinner was at Napolatano's Restaurant, the food was delicious! And last but not least if you are looking for a nice place to have a wedding I would recommend Sweetwater Branch Inn!Recommended for: Age 55+, romantic getaway.

This is a terrific little cottage. I stayed at the cottage with my husband and 2 small dogs. Great fenced yard. It is in a decidedly ungentrified neighborhood but within 10 minutes walk of all the gentrification that you could ask for (Starbucks included). The owner was super - thank you Lorraine. We would definitely stay there again.Recommended for: Tourists without a car, age 55+, pet owners.
Owner response: Thanks so much, Helene. We're so glad you enjoyed your stay and would love to have you, Chris, Albert and Jack back any time!

Thank you so much for making my month-long visit to Gainesville this summer so comfortable and enjoyable! All the thoughtful touches and the convenient location to the University and downtown made it ideal for my stay. So glad y'all welcome pets, too. Gainesville is a dog-friendly town. We loved walking in the neighborhoods and visiting the Northeast Dog Park (about a mile away). Hope to come back soon!Recommended for: Sightseeing, pet owners.
Owner response: Thanks, Victoria. We were happy to have you and Honey as our guests. You're welcome back any time!

3rd St Cottage is downtown City but you feel like you're in a small village. Friendly folks, a bike ride 3 minutes to the many nightspots and restaurants. Free concerts at Bo Diddley park. A vibrant farmers market on Wednesday afternoon with a variety of tastes and smells and wide selection of local produce and products from small farmers. The location is suprisingly mellow and quiet yet still in the middle of it all. UF is less than 10 min on a bicycle. The bikes provided at the Cottage are very nice. Next time we'll leave ours home.Recommended for: Tourists without a car, age 55+, families with teenagers, girls getaway, sightseeing, families with young children, romantic getaway, adventure seekers.

We stayed at the cottage over the weekend for a Florida football game. Last year, we stayed in an awful motel and got charged more per night than the cottage. It was clean, comfortable, very cute, and within walking distance to restaurants. We even walked to the game at the stadium...it was about 1.5 miles, but a nice walk. The backyard is big with a table and a bbq grill, too. Washer and dryer were great--so much better than mine at home! (: If we return to Gainesville, we will definitely be staying at the cottage!Recommended for: Tourists without a car, age 55+, girls getaway, sightseeing, families with young children, pet owners, romantic getaway.

About the owner: Married, Shawn and Lorraine have lived in Gainesville, Florida for nearly 20 years and love it. Not only do they get to experience the thrill of Gator football, but Gainesville also boasts a wide variety of cultural attractions and natural beauty.
Why the Owner Chose Gainesville:
We always use VRBO to find our vacation rentals because we love to travel with our dogs. When we noticed that our home town of Gainesville, Florida didn't have any rentals near the University of Florida, we thought it would be a great idea to make one! We purchased and renovated this cute cottage, walking distance to the theatre and all the restaurants, bars and clubs in downtown and less than a mile from campus! We're so excited about this new venture!
The Unique Benefits at this House:
Being able to park with ease and take a short walk to some of the best restaurants and bars in town... as well as the Hippodrome State Theatre. The house is quiet, but in five minutes, you're in the middle of all the action! You can have a fun night out without worrying about the drive home. Plus, you can walk up University Avenue right to campus or hop on the bus. So Gator football games are a breeze!
