Every Christmas our family stays at a house/cabin near the mountains. We snowshoe and enjoy the company. What this means is that we have stayed at a lot of vacation homes. Simply put, the Olympic Foothills Lodge is by far the best of the lot. Everything about it is welcoming, from the pre-cut firewood for the stove, to the description of where things are in the kitchen, to the very gracious and thoughtful instructions on what is expected in cleaning up. I especially appreciated the very comfortable beds and the cleanliness of the outdoor grill (a weakness at many cabins.) But I have to mention that the thought that has gone into the safety of the guests is absolutely outstanding. There are instructions for every event, flashlights and extra batteries almost everywhere in case the electricity goes out, a backup generator. There is even extra cut firewood in the garage, a thoughtful touch, but a significant contribution to safety. It is not surprising that an owner who cares this much about the safety of his guests has put so much attention into making their stay fun and comfortable.Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children.
Owner response: Thanks for your review. I'm glad your stay at the Lodge exceeded your expectations. I have also stayed in many vacation places over the years and have made mental notes about all the things that bugged me during those stays, so as I planned and and then built the Lodge I applied what I have learned. It's one thing to stay in a Motel where if you need something you can call the front desk but when renting a house, you are mostly on your own. Just the thought of something going wrong can begin eroding the relaxed atmosphere you were looking for by renting a place all to yourself. Again, thanks for confirming that we have done a good job of making you feel safe during your stay. Steve

When our family decided to get together and spend a week in the same place, we were concerned if we'd be able to find something that would sleep 16 and would be comfortable. We were truly blessed to have found Olympic Foothills Lodge!! This lodge is BEAUTIFUL and the owners have truly thought of everything for your stay! Surrounded by lush forest and trails crafted by the owners, our children and grand children were able to explore and have a great time! This location is great because you aren't that far from Port Angeles/Sequim and all those two cities have to offer! Thank you, Steve & Alice, for making our Easter celebration with family such an enjoyable one! We'll be back!!!Owner response: Thanks Tana, You have described our motivation for building the Lodge perfectly. We brought up our two grandsons a couple of weeks after you stayed there and they also enjoyed the trails. Come again when you can. Steve and Alice

Even before arriving at the lodge, we had great feeling about the place due to our interactions with Steve, He was professional and helpful and patient throughout. Trying to corral a group of 15 people wasn't easy. We went to Port Angeles for a family wedding and were not to be disappointed in any way. Steve provided clear directions on how to get to the lodge that were even better than our GPS' instructions. We were blown away by the setting and the pristine conditions of the lodge itself. Everything is documented, labelled, or noted. The planning and design of the lodge takes into account the comfort of every guest from newborn to senior. The kitchen is absolutely amazing and accessorized better than my kitchen at home. And the number of bathrooms made serving our large group very easy. It is obvious that Steve and Alice are very concerned about their guests' entertainment and comfort. The books and brochures at the lodge made it easy to find lots of things to do even if one is not familiar with the area. We were never bored! If anything, we were very sad to see our week end and to say good-bye. Maybe someday we'll have an excuse to come back. The lodge was a perfect setting for our family gathering. We felt so at home! There is no doubt we'd call on Steve and Alice again!Recommended for: Sightseeing, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children.
Owner response: Thanks Mary, for taking the time to let us know how much you enjoyed your stay. I hope you can come again sometime. We'd love to have you ( we received a good report from our cleaning people!) Steve

This house was the best house we have ever rented through VRBO, not only was it beautiful and roomy and totally suitable for our needs, it was also so very functional. The design is just perfect, open enough in the living area to accommodate a big family, yet the sleeping areas are private and the bathrooms are generous. The house was wonderfully clean, the kitchen was totally equipped and big enough for several cooks, the dining room table is huge and perfect for family meals, the living room furniture was comfortable as were the beds. The setting is lovely with the open grassy area and fire pit, the surrounding forest with the trail to the creek, and the solitude. The owners were extraordinary hosts, their accessibility through emails and willingness to provide information about the house and the area was so helpful to us. We do not usually return to an area for vacationing, but might make an exception for this house, especially since we were not able to fully explore the Olympic Peninsula in two weeks.Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, people with disabilities, age 55+, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.
Owner response: Thank you Gail, So glad to hear that our Lodge met your needs so well. I had fun designing and building the Lodge for groups just like yours. It is gratifying to hear that you enjoyed it as much as we do. And yes, do come back. We would love to have you stay with us again. Steve

Colleagues, friends, families ... this group has been getting together somewhere in the world every two years for 20 years now. This was one of the most successful reunions ever, thanks to this spacious, modern, comfortable, well-organized house in a wonderful setting. We explored the beaches and trails every day, put together great feasts every night in the convenient kitchen, then spent the evening singing around the piano or playing games. The owners really have thought of absolutely everything. And they're easy to work with; we had excellent communication with them. We filled up nearly a week with outdoor adventures, and no one wanted to leave. Our only regret is that we can't clone this house and take it to our next reunion!Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway.
Owner response: Thanks, David, for taking the time to tell us about your experience with us and your stay at the Lodge. Your group is a good test for our original intention for building the place and I’m delighted to know that you all had a good time. We look forward to having you stay with us again sometime! Steve

Our group of 15 rented the Lodge from Steve and Alice for our Memorial Day reunion. It was a pleasure working with Steve to complete the reservation procedure ahead of our visit. The lodge itself is splendid. It is very well furnished, with a spacious great-room which was very appreciated by our large group. Steve and Alice have manged to build a homely, yet stylish lodge. Coming back here is a no-brainer if we ever return to the Port Angeles area for our next reunion.Recommended for: Sightseeing, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway.
Owner response: Thank you, Vish, for telling us how much you and your group enjoyed the Lodge. We would love to have you stay with us again sometime. Steve and Alice

I recently spent a "Girls Weekend" away at the Olympic Foothills Lodge and was blown away by the comfort and organization of the house and the attention to detail the owners clearly have. They provided detailed information about what to expect during our stay before we even arrived and the house was fully stocked with binders full of guidebooks and maps for whatever adventure we were looking for. The house is incredibly spacious providing a number of different areas for groups of people to lounge. Between the fully stocked kitchen, the spa-like jacuzzi tub, and the wood-stove there was no lacking in ways to indulge and relax during our fantastic weekend away. I will definitely be returning to the Olympic Foothills Lodge as a basecamp for more Olympic Peninsula adventures!Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, people with disabilities, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway.
Owner response: Thanks Sara, Really glad your group could get together for this trip. Your experience at the Lodge is what we intended when we built it. Thanks for the feedback. And yes, it would be great if you could come again sometime. Steve

The Olympic Foothills Lodge is FANTASTIC! It has everything a group would need: a large kitchen with every appliance imaginable (including plenty of fridge space), plenty of incredibly comfortable beds, a large common space, a soaking tub built for two, not to mention the amazing setting.... I HIGHLY recommend this lodge experience.Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, families with teenagers, pet owners, families with young children, girls getaway.
Owner response: Thanks Cathy, I'm glad you liked the Lodge and had a chance to experience it with some new friends. I hope we can find time to build some trails together on the other side of the creek. I hope your group can come again sometime. Steve Steve

This house is simply amazing. Our stay was easy and beautiful because of each and every detail at the place. The kitchen tool location guide was awesome, and we had fun racing to find items before someone read their locations aloud. We loved the history built into the home, and shared with us as visitors. We had a group of 11 and we were easily able to cook and serve meals together, play games, and sleep comfortably. Some of us chose to relax at the house while others went out to explore Dungeness Spit, and the removal of local dams - a once-in-a-lifetime chance to witness. The only thing missing was a hot tub, but we hear that there will be one someday. I've already told my friends and family about this place, and I can't wait to return! Thank you, Steve and Alice.Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway.
Owner response: Thanks Tara, I appreciate knowing that the Lodge had all the kitchen tools you needed and that what is becoming Steve's famous "kitchen tool locator" was so much fun for you. Can you tell my college studies were in engineering? Anyway, so glad you and Cathy could spend some time there together with your friends from Portland. Come again, anytime! Steve
