Put your feet up and relax! Our vacation home is part of an Island duplex. It is the 'main house' built behind one of the historic Balboa Island beach houses. It has all character of an Island home yet with all your modern amenities. It is decorated in lovely antiques and beach memorabilia. If you spent time on Balboa Island as a child, this will bring back fond memories, and make some new ones. It's the perfect place to share with your children or grandchildren!
Upstairs is an open plan living room, kitchen and a small deck with BBQ. HDTV, with cable and DVD, Wi-Fi, and Bose Music System (for radio and iPod etc.) will satisfy your media needs. Master bedroom has full ensuite bath, second bedroom with 2 twin beds and TV, half bath down the hall. Downstairs is a private bedroom with 2 twins (which can be pushed together for a king bed) and ensuite bathroom. Separate 'beach shower' has outdoor access. Garage with parking for 1 car, washing machine and dryer.
Balboa Island is a little touch of heaven--a small island in Newport Harbor, that has a small town feel. This is a place where the favorite activity is walking around the island on the boardwalk along the bay, so park your car and enjoy the walk! 5 doors down is the calm sandy bay beach. 2 blocks away is the little ferry that will take you across the bay to the Balboa Peninsula (all for $1), and another block to the Pacific Ocean and miles of wide beaches, the Balboa Pier, swimming, surfing, sunning, and shopping. There’s even a little 'FUN ZONE' with Ferris wheel and arcade games.
Kayaks, sailboats, electric boats, paddle boats, bicycles, etc. are all available to rent at the Fun Zone. Or wander farther afield to Disneyland (25 minutes) or the beaches at Laguna, Corona del Mar, etc. LA is an hour north, San Diego an hour south.

The homes on Balboa Island are each one-of-a-kind, and this is a wonderful, updated house with very clean, comfortable accommodations and a lot of Character. This is not a basic, sterile rental but one that reflects a lot of family history and loving care as antiques, art, and photos mix with beach treasures. We have stayed here several times and would recommend this home to friends, especially if we lived closer. We love taking the little ferry to the ocean and the fun center. Walking around the island past all the different homes and watching people having fun with whatever water sport they're enjoying is always interesting. I really like watching the rowing crews practice in the morning and seeing all the little boats tied up around the island. We love this place!Recommended for: Tourists without a car, pet owners, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway.

Our week on Balboa Island at this beach house was perfect. It was a very comfortable and cozy beach house, decorated with the colors and feel of nature. It's location is close to the strand which surrounds the island, and encouraged us to take numerous walks around the island, enjoying the bay and views and beauty of the surroundings. It is a timeless place to visit. The little main street is full of quaint shops, great restaurants....and chocolate covered frozen banana stands....an island favorite!. We enjoyed kayaking around the bay as well as going across the ferry to the beach and exploring the shore, collecting shells, eating at Ruby's on the Pier, and walking to "The Wedge", a famous body surfing site. Another favorite outing was to visit Roger's Gardens, a beautiful nursery and garden just 10 minutes away. The beach house is well equipped and has many amenities available for guests to enjoy beach life. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and plan to return for another visit.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, tourists without a car, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, sightseeing.

Owner info
Year Purchased: 1951
About the owner: Our grandparents bought this beach house on Balboa Island in 1951 and we have great memories of playing at the beach, body surfing at the ocean, going to the fun zone, eating frozen bananas, and endless hours of barefoot play time around the island. Today, Sally Landis is an artist in Oakland CA, and Bettie Sue Walters works at Deetjen's Big Sur Inn and lives in Aptos CA. We still get to Balboa Island as often as we can, but welcome others to enjoy our beach house when they can!
Why the Owner Chose Balboa Island:
This unit was built behind the historic little yellow beach house with the idea to retain the island character, yet build with modern amenities. It has been decorated with family antiques and beach memorabilia. You'll feel like part of the island's history, yet have the comforts of a modern home. Put your feet up and relax, you're on Balboa Island now!
The Unique Benefits at this House:
Just 5 houses from the calm sandy beaches and 2 blocks to the ferry, this house is perfectly situated to a relaxing vacation. Park your car in the garage, then walk to the ocean, the fun zone, and the main street with it's wonderful restaurants. You may want to walk to the 'Catalina Flyer' and spend the day in Catalina. Or take the short drive to the beaches of Laguna and Corona Del Mar. Maybe a 30 minute drive to Disneyland or Knott's Berry Farm.
