We stayed for a couple nights in January (New Year's Eve!). Two adults and a nine-year old. The house is great with whimsical murals all over that we all enjoyed. As soon as you open the sliding doors to the deck you're awash with the ocean breeze, smells, and sounds. The kitchen is well appointed though we did a lot of picnics and ate in Pahoa. We saw turtles off the patio a couple days and watched squalls develop and drift across the ocean with rainbows in tow. The neighborhood is nice and felt very safe. We saw lots of families and people walking in the evenings. The only negative with the house is that the wave noise was high (hard to complain about I know, but there is a reason surf is described as "pounding" and "crashing"). It's posible that the swell was high when we were there, but the noise was not inconsequential. Not a big deal, but worth knowing in advance. Also, you can't get into the water from the house (but with Kapoho so near, you don't need to). Pahoa is a cute little town with a good natural foods market to shop at. The mexican restaurant and Kaleos were both good; with Kaleo's offering high end excellent fusion cuisine. Kapoho Tide pools are outstanding and a must see/swim. They are as good as Cooks and Place of Refuge on the other side. Fabulous snorkeling. The County park with the volcano heated pond is great and is clearly a local hangout that felt really comfortable. Take the Government (dirt) Road from the house to Kapoho (4WD would be best, but I don't think it's required). It's through some of the most gorgeous rain forest we visited. My son swung on 100-foot vines in the trees (that drive turned out to be a trip highlight for us). We went to the County park where the road is closed to see the lava glow (up on the hill in the distance) and that was cool. Volcanos Park is terrific. Great staff and easy traveling. Thurston lava tube is worth the walk (note that there is an overlook you can park on about 1/4 mile from Thurston and walk a very pleasant trail with good views to Thurston and avoid the bus parking congestion). We went to Waipio Valley and drove down, it was gorgeous and worth the trip. Getting to and paying for the house was a breeze and Mark was very helpful and accomodating. No hassles or concerns at all. I wish I was headed there tomorrow! Aloha
Owner response:WOW! Mahalo nui for the great review! Yes, Honu Cove IS oceanfront and that includes the sound of the surf. I tell folks if you were any closer to the ocean at Honu Cove, you'd be in it! :) Come back and see us again sometime soon. We think Honu Cove and the east side of the Big Island is VERY special. Aloha, Mark and Ron with the management team of Hawaiian Paradise Vacation Rentals.

My Husband and I spent 7 days at this beautiful home for our 36th anniv. in November and to visit our Daughter living in Kehena. The house was all it was said to be and more. We saw Turtles (Honu) everyday from the lanai. The neighborhood is so nice and quite. The kitchen has everything you need and the flowers on the counter left for us were fabulous. This is a very relaxing place yet so much to do and see close by. We went to the Hot Ponds (excellent) the Kapoho Tide Pools (awesome) the S.P.A.C.E. market(very cool)and wonderful foods and the Kalapana night market (brand new) and of course went into Hilo and Rainbow Falls and the Boiling Pots.In Pahoa town we ate at Luguins (mexican) yummy....... We loved seeing this side of the Island and THE REAL PEOPLE of HAWAI'I, Everyone was so so nice to us everywhere we went. We will always remember our stay here and will come back again someday. I hear the Whale watching is awesome in January..... Mahalo

We were fortunate enough to stay at Honu Cove for our Anniversary and what a wonderful place to stay! If you enjoy quiet, peaceful, beautiful surroundings, this is the place for you. You can sit on the lanais and let the waves lull you to sleep or just relax and enjoy the incredible view. And if you're lucky, you can catch a view of the Honus (turtles) in the cove. The house is comfortable and welcoming and the neighborhood is wonderful to walk through. I would highly recommend this rental to anyone seeking a serene, beautiful place to relax and enjoy the beauty the Big Island has to offer.

We stayed at the house at Honu Cove for ten wonderful days in January of 2011. We loved every minute of our stay. This house is truly right on the ocean. The waves are right at your feet. The house was in great condition, exceptionally clean and well furnished. The beds were excellent and there was an abundance of large, soft towels. When the BBQ ran out of gas, Ron had someone there literally within minutes. He and his crew were always ready to help with questions or any problems. All we needed to do was call. I especially loved the wall murals. The turtles were my favorite. We saw whales offshore almost daily.I spent most early mornings on the upper lanai watching the sun rise over the ocean. The wonderful quiet neighborhood with wildlife and blooming plants all around all made for the best vacation ever. I recommend the house at Honu Cove to all my family and friends. It is a great place to stay--like you really live in Hawaii. .

This house is really wonderful and unique. It is right on the ocean. When in the bedrooms, you almost feel like you are on a boat. The ocean is so loud it might wake you up at night. The cove by the house is gorgeous, with black volcanic rock and the ocean an iridescent blue. All the living areas are setup to face the ocean. It is a bit of a long drive from the nearest town, Pahoa, but not too bad. The murals in the two larger bedrooms are great. The upstairs bathroom/shower is nice to have. My only complaints: there was no stereo system, there was not enough hot water for showers in the morning for more than one person, there are no screens on the upstairs sliding doors (bugs can come in at night), and the screens for the downstairs sliding doors were out-of-track and broken.
Owner response:Aloha, Mark here with Hawaiian Paradise Vacation Rentals, the property manager for Honu Cove. I wish this guest had contacted me when they were here so I could have rectified these problems. I didn't know about any of this until the review came in. The hotwater heater is on a timer and the timer was simply off which caused the hot water heater to not come on in the morning hours. Yes, all of the screens have been fixed and were immediately upon receiving this review. Future guests: We're a local based company with over 30 rentals and 8 years of experience in our field. Our guests are our top priority! If there is any problem with your rental, please call us! Aloha, Mark

No way will you ever stay in one of them square hotels again..The Honu Cove is awsum. You'll be back and so will your friends. All in a town that time forgot ..... Pahoa. In a quiet residential neighborhood, on top of the pacific ocean... Shopping and restaurants are very near by. Thank you for the most fabulous place to stay. The house was much more than we anticipated. It had everything we needed or wanted and more. If I hear of anyone heading towards the island I will tell them to look up your property. Thanks also for the hiking tips. Mahalo,
