Casita Pataya is the ideal place for you if you enjoy convenience, peace and quiet. Located near Los Barriles but with none of the barking dogs or noisy traffic. Sounds of water from the pond/waterfall may lull you into taking a siesta.

The yard is a virtual botanic garden with varieties of cacti, flowering shrubs and fruit trees. The owner's veggie garden is sure to be a source of goodies for your meals.

Great little restaurants --very affordable --abound in Los Barriles. Ask the owner for clues as she has lived here almost 9 years and can give directions to out-of-the-way spots.

Well behaved pets are welcome as is a child. The sofa makes a nice bed for a little one so bring them along.

If you need dental work --we have a great new dentist in town. Possibly you could pay for your vacation with the savings. Advance notice is needed for this.

Owner's Profile

Owner Description

Year Purchased: 2005

I first visited Los Barriles in 2001 and fell in love with the area. There were few houses for sale at that time but the realtor said "If you have a good imagination we have one under construction". Well, I looked at this pile of concrete blocks and thought the house was nice but what caused a tremor in the pit of my stomach was the incredible view! It was awesome. Every direction gorgeous. I flew home to Colorado, called my 3 kids to get opinions and they all said, "When can we go?" So on Valentine's Day I emailed an offer on this incomplete house, got it accepted and moved in the following November. It was the best decision I ever made. Three years later I build the guest house which I named "Casita Pataya". It is one the same property but completely separate and private. Lots of changes have occurred in the area but I still love it and look forward to spending winters there every season.

Why the Owner Chose Los Barriles

For years I have traveled to various places "South of the Border". When I came to Los Barriles it felt like "home". It is a relatively small village with none of the big hotels and fast-food restaurants. The locals are friendly and helpful. Life is laid-back and peaceful and the weather can't be beat. What else could one want?

The Unique Benefits of this House

Gardening is a great love of mine. Here I can grow so many things that are impossible in Colorado where I am from. Oranges, papayas, grapefruit, mangos and even pistachios are some of the trees I have. The vegetable garden brings loads of tomatoes, green beans, broccoli, lettuce and many other things. This year I am planting some banana trees. In prior years I had chicken (for eggs) ducks and bunnies. All had babies and the local children often came to my "petting zoo".

    • We spent only a week at Casita Pataya the first week of April and wished it could have been at least a month! Pat was a wonderful hostess and the Casita far surpassed our expectations. The casita and the gardens are gorgeous and extremely well kept. We woke up each morning to the birds and glorious sunrises. Each evening we enjoyed sitting on the palapa deck and watching the sunset and later enjoying the lights of Los Barilles in the distance. It was so peaceful. The views are awesome. We went fishing a couple days with Pats friend, Israel of Cuyuyo Fleet on his very nice super panga. We caught Dorado, Sail Fish, Red Snapper. It was some of the highest quality fishing we have ever done in over 10 years of fishing the southern Baja. The kitchen in the Casita was more than adequate for cooking our fish plus there is a nice BBQ area available. We already loved Los Barilles but now hope to make it an annual vacation destination. Plus, we feel like we have a new friend in Pat.

    • Pat's place is a wonderful refuge, quiet, peaceful, and clean. You can watch the dolphins from the porch (with binoculars)with unobstructed view of the Sea of Cortes. The ocean is a 5 minute walk on sandy trails thru the nearby arroyo. And the stars look like you can touch them in the Baja sky. Plus Pat is a loveable soul who can help you find what you want in and around Los barriles.

    • As far as I am concerned, Pat's Casita is the best place to stay in Los Barriles. Great location, well-equipped, and very clean. We enjoyed the great views from the house, the peace and quiet, as well as the proximity to the beach and hiking.

    • You will enjoy the peaceful atmosphere of the area. Pat has done an outstanding job of landscaping the property and furnishing the casitas. You have every kitchen gadget that you will need including a blender and cuisinart. You are located approximatley 1/4 mile from the beach. You can rent ATVs in town and/or charter a fishing boat. TIPS: Bring cash or your ATM card. All gas must be paid for in cash and there are virtually no merchants who accept credit cards in town. If you are flying into the San Juan airport and plan on staying for a week or two, you may want to stock up on staples at the "dollar" store in San Jose [Waldo's Mart] which will be on your left (off the highway) just prior to coming to the traffic circle that allows you to take the toll road to the airport. They have a great food selection. If you're willing to drive on to Cabo, there will be a CostCo on your right (off the highway) prior to entering the Cabo city limits. Leave your CDs at home. The unit has satellite TV and there are over a dozen music selections.

    • A beautiful, clean, quiet location with a stunning view and a spacious veranda to enjoy it from - and it comes with some stellar bonuses. The first is owner Pat, who lives in the main house and is ready to help with solid info on local amenities, from the best supermarket or snorkeling spot to dive operators and fish charters. The second is Pat's garden, which gave us a delicious dose of summer in March: sun ripened tomatoes, luscious papaya, flawless eggplant, fresh beans, cilantro and lettuce. Add warm eggs from the henhouse, a fish caught from the beach a ten minute walk away (Pat loaned us the rod and reel), or local prawns and we ate most meals right at home - feast after feast. Our 4-year old son Cody loved Pat's casita too, waiting eagerl;y every morning to greet passing cows and share our veggie scraps with them. This is a sweet place for a romantic getaway or a small family vacation, and if you're a cook/ gardener, it's heaven.

    • WOW! What a FANTASTIC surprise! Pat's beautiful casita has everything: modern kitchen (equipped better than our home), satellite TV, high speed wireless internet, spectacular panoramic views of the Sea of Cortez, dazzling landscaped yard (loved eating fruit right from the trees), the sound of running water coming from the waterfall/pond in the yard, in addition to all the activities of the area. We will be back! We may move in for good!
