Great for Extended Families

The pictures of this house don't actually do justice, but the reviews are accurate when they say the place is spacious, clean, & nice. We really enjoyed the large kitchen & dining space (not pictured) for our family meals. We spent a lot of quality time on the porch overlooking a view of the lake, which was a beautiful view (not pictured). The layout is not described, but worked out very well for us. Upstairs, there is one master bed w/ bath with room for an air mattress for kids. There is one small but cozy bedroom & another bedroom with large windows viewing the lake. These two share a hall bath. Downstairs, there is a lounge area with a TV, bar, & two futons. There is a gigantic front bedroom with access to the patio and fire pit area (which was awesome for telling stories of "Sasquatch Island"). There is also another room (the only bedroom with a TV) with two big beds and room for more kids on the floor. All the downstairs bedrooms share one bath. The kitchen was missing a few key items (we "donated" some tea pitchers and brought our own casserole dishes & sharp knives, which were needed). Otherwise, the kitchen met our needs & was pleasant. We were glad to discover there are actually two large refrigerators, one for food & one for drinks. We still had to buy ice, though, because the freezers just couldn't produce. The short but steep walk to the dock was great for us because it provided exercise and a wonderful view, but it cannot accommodate anyone who may have issues with walking. The dock was great to have so close. We were able to park our own jet ski and boat, though not under the roof (the owner's boat was parked there.) The roof did provide a good patch of shade, while we could still catch some rays on the un-covered portion. We spent untold hours jumping off the dock, floating in the lake, and hanging out on the dock. There is room for several chairs, coolers, and floats. We even caught a couple fish! There is not much to see and do in the immediate area, so we recommend just enjoying the lake and house for all its worth. We did do one night eating out at the Bear Creek Marina, which was fun but average food. (Take dollars for the juke box.) The new state park facility is beautiful, but the hours are short, it costs money, and no adult-drinks allowed. Really, you don't need to leave the house if you brought plenty of food and drink. If you like micro-brews, bring your own. They are hard to come by in the area.

New Year's Trip

We stayed at the lake front home for 3 nights over the New Year's holiday. There were 5 couples and each had their own room. The accomodations are very spacious and we could have probably slept another few people. The house is beautifully decorated and clean. The living room was very comfortable and provided a great place to play games and watch football. We loved the island range in the kitchen and it was spacious so several people could cook at once. I will say you need to bring anything you think you may need, as there was no salt or sugar. Even though it was cold, we enjoyed the view of the lake outside and walking around the beach. Lake James State Park was very close and provided a scenic hiking trail and great place to take pictures. I would reccomed getting directions for the State Park before you get there since the signs are a little misleading. Overall it was a great stay and we would recommend this house for any group gathering.

We were looking for accomodations for a weekend family reunion and wanted something larger and nicer than just a hotel stay. This home definitely met the expectations for all 10 of us! The house is huge and the surrounds are absolutely gorgeous. The deck off the back was amazing and so peaceful you could hear a pin drop! Our stay was short but definitely what we were looking for. You can't go wrong with this beautiful, spacious home.

We had a group of 5 Senior Couples golfers. Miss Teri , the rental Agent, put us in touch with son , Matt for best local courses!! He was most helpful. Had a true GREAT TIME !! Weather was quite warm for Sept.but all enjoyed the Mtn. Courses. Highly recommend this property if you have a large group. We did not see much wildlfe but suspect the hot weather was reason....usually very active. BTW...Be sure you get a fishing license if using the lake. Stunning Sunrises !! Highly recommend. What a blessing and memories to cherish at this fabulous vacation house on Lake James. This is our second year staying at this lake house, and we have enjoyed it immensely both times. The owners are great to work with, and the house is immaculate. From the huge kitchen to full sized bed rooms to the peacefulness of that wonderful back porch overlooking the lake. This year we actually saw a bald eagle swoop by us, as we admired his beauty. The house is vast enough to house the entire family, friend and neighbors. And believe me, we had them all.. :) We have made this our yearly family get-a-way. Our tradition. Thanks to the owners for allowing us to share this house with you. Truly a memorable experience every time we visit. :)

Family Vacation on Lake James

We have just returned from a fabulous family vacation on Lake James. The accomodations were spacious for an extended family of 13 -- ages from the 70s down to the youngest who is five. There was a nice quiet porch overlooking the lake and ideal for sitting and reading and watching the birds. Everyone enjoyed the lake, kayaks and swimming at the dock. I would recommend this house for family fun. Several said this was the best vacation yet -- and we have a family vacation every year -- usually at a beach, but this time decided to try something different. Our family also enjoyed good hiking trails that are nearby -- Linville Falls, Mount Mitchell and Lake James State Park.
