Cozy Cabin with Fabulous View

This Cozy Cabin (we call it our Red Fox Cabin) is located overlooking a fabulous view of the famous fishing spot known as the Chicken Coop in the middle part of beautiful Toledo Bend Lake. It has one bedroom and one bath, but a sleeper sofa couch in the living. This is a great place for a couple's getaway but room if you want to bring a kiddo. There is Direct TV in the bedroom and one in the living room so you can each enjoy your own shows after the sun goes down. It has a washer/dryer, full size refrigerator, stove, microwave and a grill on the deck so you can grill and watch the beautiful sundown.
This cabin is on a bluff with hardwoods and large pines in a natural setting. You can see all the way to Louisiana 5 miles away. It is a great little place to get away from it all and enjoy nature at it's finest. There is a brand new pier that is right by where the Sabine River runs that makes for some great fishing. Just sit back and enjoy the sights and sounds of beautiful Toledo Bend Lake.

I spent Thanksgiving weekend with my girlfriend - getting away from the family - and thoroughly loved our time spent in the "Red Fox" cabin. Now it's small, so any more than two people could get a bit cozy, but it has all the creature comforts you'd need: Central heat & A/C, two Direct TVs, DVD player, washer/dryer, kitchen with fridge, oven, microwave, dishes - but no dishwasher. The Queen bed was comfy, but I tried out the hide-away and it's suitable only for small kids. The lot is enormous with extensive tree coverage. The cabin is dog-friendly, so we brought our dog and you would've thought she'd never been outside before - she loved it too. The lake does not have typical water-front access: The cabin sits on a 50' bluff, so you're not going to go dip your toes in from the front yard. You can take a long walk about onto the dock and climb down into the water, but the location is not ideal for swimming to and from the front lawn. IMHO, the lot is much better suited for views from the front porch, the fire ring, or the dock than for swimming ... speaking of which, we saw bald eagles on three occasions. Keep in mind there is NOTHING near this cabin. Granted, that's the point: I wanted to get away for a few days. Milam is just a four-way stop; Hemphill is quite a bit away - which, I found out is, dry. So, stop for beer before you get to the cabin. I did however, enjoy day trips into Many, Louisiana and Natchitoches.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

Me and my fiance stayed at the little Red Fox and had the most amazing time ever....it was decorated to the 9's and we enjoyed fishing off the pier and the solitude of the scenery. The house next door was gorgeous and the couple staying there were very nice and we had dinner together one night and made friends....great to meet such nice people. We had our space and privacy at any and all times.....would highly recommend anyone to rent this for a getaway....Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

You will not be disappointed in this cozy getaway. If your objective is a little R&R, Red Fox Cabin is ideal. Pet friendly was a big plus!! We were blessed with great weather, and the large cabin next door was not occupied, so it was like we had our own private getaway. Staff was friendly and accomodating. Cabin was extremely clean and there were more amenities than we imagined! Cork Screw for the wine and even a hair dryer! Our next visit, we will not pack near as much! Although a little hike, the jot back up from the dock wasn't too bad. The view was spectular. Didn't have much luck fishing, but we didn't try real hard! It wasn't a "fishing" trip, but a R&R trip, and the Red Fox Cabin delivered 150%. (large cabin next door is close...I would recommend you check with property to see if it rented and to who.)Recommended for: Pet owners, families with teenagers, romantic getaway.

We stayed over Thanksgiving weekend Thur-Sun and enjoyed this little cabin. The bed is super comfy and the cabin had everything we needed. The lake is close, and while low still lovely to sit by. The large cabin was very close next door but it never caused a problem. My dog came along and enjoyed all the free running space. We will definately rent again. Thanks Red Fox and Susan!Recommended for: Girls getaway, pet owners, people with disabilities, age 55+, romantic getaway.

This is a very nice cabin, very clean and modern. It is in a quiet area. The water was low, but we expected that. We just walked along the banks and did a little fishing. Amazingly no problems with bugs or mosquitoes. Very peaceful. Enjoyed just sitting on the porch and taking in the view.Recommended for: Girls getaway, pet owners, age 55+, romantic getaway.

We won't soon forget Red Fox Cabin at Toledo Bend! The cabin was beautiful and perfectly equipped, the management staff more than cordial and helpful, and the scenery breathtaking. It was too windy to fish, but we didn't care. Just sitting on the porch looking at the lake in peace and unbelievably serenity was enough. My wife, our little Shih Tzu, Angel, and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay, one of the best vacations we've ever had. We'll be back.Recommended for: Pet owners, age 55+, romantic getaway.

We were looking for a peaceful cabin on the lake to get away from it all, and this fit the bill perfectly!! Upon arrival we could see the lake as the backyard view - gorgeous! Nestled in the trees with a wide long lawn, this cabin sits between another cabin property and some long term residents. We lucked out - no other renters in the cabin next door during our stay. (The other neighbors are super friendly, and far enough away to afford you privacy). The cabin was exactly as depicted in the photos, and absolutely immaculate! It is stocked with everything---linens, dishes, utensils, even a washer & dryer which we ended up being very happy we had. The pier is fantastic! Just be sure to take everything down there that you may need (drinks, fishing gear etc) because are flights of stairs and the yard to cross. It's not super far, but in the hot sun lugging your belongings can get wearing! We used the heck out of that pier!!! It does have rope lighting; not enough for night fishing, but plenty to sit under the stars. We swam and fished to our hearts content! Speaking of fishing, this was hubby's favorite part! We caught perch, bass, catfish, and alligator gar. Fishing was tricky - there was sooooo much shad!! Even so, we still caught plenty!! (We can only imagine how the fishing is during other seasons!) There is a close bait shop that carries some grocery items, gas and has a short order cook. Grocery items are a bit pricey, but the folks are super friendly. Hemphill has a bigger Brookshire Brothers grocery store and some mom and pop stores. There's also a great seafood joint just inside the Louisiana border. Do note: this isnt an area to go to if you are looking for lots of nearby attractions. If you want to be in a secluded country area with your own private pier to fish and swim---this is the place! You'll love the scenary and the quietness! To the owners: thank you for sharing your cabin with us!! We created memories here that will stay with us forever. Nights of catching fireflies (so many!), swimming for hours, fishing, sitting around the campfire, and enjoying being in the country.....this was EXACTLY what we wanted!!! Thank you!!!Recommended for: Girls getaway, pet owners, families with young children, age 55+, families with teenagers, romantic getaway.

We were so pleased with the cabin and everything was there to make our stay comfortable. The pier was amazing and my family put it to good use. The weather wasn't the best, but they were able to fish and enjoy the beautiful scenery. We will always remember our stay and hope to return in the future.Recommended for: Pet owners, sightseeing, age 55+, adventure seekers, romantic getaway.

My girlfriend and I made our way out there the third week in March and it was absolutely amazing. The cabin was beautiful and the view was as described. Inside the cabin the down home decorations reminded me of a cracker barrel and only served to enhance the experience. The part that I was most excited about was the fishing. I have booked several trips to various places on this site before. This is the first one that the fishing was incredible, it is definetely fertile grounds. If you have kids bring some bobbers and some worms and get ready to catch medium size channel cats. One word of advice that I would say is to plan your grocery needs very carefully, you will want to make sure you bring everything that you need, or make one trip to the brookshires brothers do. Because there is not a grocery store that is within a convenient drive. If you don't mind driving a little then you'll be fine.Recommended for: Pet owners, sightseeing, families with teenagers, romantic getaway.
