Lake Geneva house description
If you're planning to rent a lake home in Southern Wisconsin, then Lake Geneva is the spot for you. The second deepest lake in the state, Lake Geneva is nine miles in length and three miles at its widest point. Lake Geneva is well-known for its clean water and gorgeous beaches so don't hesitate to plan a Wisconsin trip during the year's hotter months!
Our house is located on the south shore of Lake Geneva and is a five minute drive southwest of downtown Lake Geneva and a five minute drive southeast from downtown Fontana. The house was completely rehabed by a custom home builder in 2006-08 and can be accessed via keyless entry so no pick up of keys or drop offs are invloved. The home comes completely furnished with Flat Screen TV's, cable with HBO and Cinemax and wifi for all you techy's, 100's of VHS and DVD movies, two grills gas/charcoal, many board games. For the outdoorsy types, ther is a new hammock to lay outside, custom fire pit, bag/cornhole games, swimming noodles and life preservers and basically anything you could think of to enjoy your stay inside or outside and have a great time. The home is part of a cozy, quiet community filled with mature trees, so it's not uncommon to see one of the many local wildlife of deers, owls, falcons, turkeys and other wild song birds in our yard.
A two-story cedar-shingled exterior Art & Craft home and a three year old completely remodeled interior features a new kitchen with stainless appliances and granite counters, a stone boulder fireplace, stone baths, a sun room with slate floor, cherry bead board and timber loft ceilings. There are ceiling fans and wood floors throughout. The home includes antique and vintage furnishings and decorations. You are 1/4 mile walk from lake access at Linn Pier which offers a boat launch and fishing from the dock. This home provides comfortable, lodge style hospitality to families and their pets! Perfect for family gatherings or a peaceful retreat.
“The Pier” is a well known country store and bait shop only four houses away where you can conveniently pick up anything you forgot to pack! Weekend vacationers can call 'The Pier' at (262) 348-9400 to speak with the owner John by Thursday morning to have custom meat and liquor orders available for your pickup on Friday for the weekend.
The downtown of Lake Geneva, Fontana and Williams Bay offer shopping, movie theaters, a variety of restaurants and public beaches and piers. Local activities include fishing, swimming, sailing, parasailing (rental boats, canoes, kayaks and paddle boats are available at local piers), boat and dinner cruise lake tours, spas, an indoor water park at Grand Geneva Resort, skiing at Geneva National, Alpine, and Wilmot, golfing at Geneva National, Abbey Springs and 10 other courses within a 15 minute drive, antique shops and malls, free wine tasting at Pop More Corks, horse shows and riding, a corn maze, farms offering fresh produce and picking in season, a full gaming casino 45 minutes away, and many area shows, fairs and other special events scheduled year-round.

A Bit disappointing
A Bit disappointing
I have rented many times through VRBO and Homeaway. For this home I have to give mixed reviews. The pros: This is a really great home for a family. The 2 bedrooms upstairs share a bath but each bedrm also has its own sink which keeps the bathroom open to others when just a sink will do. The home is close to downtown and easy to get back and forth if you have a car. My dissappointment with the home was primarily maintenance issues. The septic needed to be pumped out twice in one week. The futon was broken, furnance filters dirty and the hose to the dryer had been disconnected. We also had problems with the dishwasher & coffeepot not working. The owner tried to be responsive, and was concerning the septic tank, however we spent a great deal of time trying to fix items or cleaning things so that they were useable. I felt as though too many things were not checked for cleaning and repairs between guest visits. The bathrooms were spotless, however the downtstairs floors especially the kitchen needed a good mopping. The gas grill was moldy and we needed to do a major clean before we could grill that evening. It wasn't what I planned to do while gathering for a family wedding. Brent was given a full list of items that needed to be repaired or tended to. He was to visit the house after our departure. Hopefully the items have been taken care of, especially a solution to the septic tank not working when it was raining all day. Maintenance issues can occur at any timie but some of the issues were a result of poor management of the property. It is a shame because if not for the maintenance issues we would have been really delighted with the home. Other than the issues we had, the home is as described in the listing.

Owner response: This is the first time i've had to respond to a review in the 7 years I have been renting my home and my first review that was less than 4 stars I have ever received on any of my rental properties. This was a frustrating experience for both myself any my guests. The Lake Geneva area has experienced and abnormal amount of rain this past year and anyone who owns or has owned a well and septic knows pumping a septic tank twice in a matter of days is certainly not the norm. Mother Nature tends to do as she pleases and all I can do is the best I can when these things occur. I did handle this during the time of the renters stay and Pat was appreciative of that fact. To Pat's points on the dishwasher, coffee maker, grill, and dryer hookup. These are certainly manageable items and all have been repaired or replaced. There are three grills at the property and two coffee makers for these reasons as certainly things do breakdown over heavy use and also to accommodate large groups of people. I have approximately 50 groups of guests that rent this property every year and not every group notices an item that is in need of repair or reports an item that was broken during there stay. I do the best I can to address these issues when I receive a report of an issue and again all of these items were repaired or replaced within a few days of Pat's departure. I don't look at Pat's comments as critical but view them as ways I can always do a better job in managing any property. To this point I also hired a new cleaning service who now as a large checklist of items that need to be reviewed upon every guests departure. I hope this will only help in providing great memories to future guests during there stay.
This was our second visit to this home for a girl friend getaway and we will be back for a third! The house is lovely, beautifully furnished, well stocked, and conveniently located. If you want to stay in, bring your meals and food and drink, and you won't have to go anywhere except the short walk to the pier on beautiful Geneva Lake. If you want to dine out and shop and more, it is close to Lake Geneva and Fontana with restaurants and shopping aplenty! Thanks again!

We had an awesome 4th of July week at this home! Such a beautiful setting and so well stocked and furnished! Brent is the best and made us feel so welcome. He was nice enough to let us bring our 2 labs. Everyday we would walk the lake path. We rented wave runners in Lake Geneva, went to Williams Bay beach and Fontana beach for swimming. We had fabulous dinners at Pier 290 and Bistro 22. We watched the fireworks from Fontana Beach. This home is so close to all the activities! Also had a fabulous day of shopping in Lake Geneva. I would recommend this home to anyone looking for a summer getaway. I am sure it is absolutley beautiful in the fall as well.We can't wait to go back. Thanks Brent!

Convenient Get away
Convenient Get away
Our experience was great, the home was beautiful and very nicely located, very quiet neighborhood with privacy but yet conveniently located to everything around Lake Geneva. Home was very pet friendly with quiet streets for walking. The boat launch couldn't be any better located, about quarter mile from house. Over all this was a very nice place to stay, highly recommended. We will rent this home again in the future, you won't be disappointed.

We were in Lake Geneva for a graduation and the house is just minutes away from Badger High and the town of Lake Geneva. Proximity to the local store, the Pier, made it easy to get the items we forgot. And the boat launch and pier made it easy to access the Lake. The layout of the house is great. Brent was easy to work with and most accommodating. We really enjoyed our stay.

Fall Cabin Getaway
Fall Cabin Getaway
The Cabin was beautiful with exactly the amount of room we needed. We really enjoyed the fireplace and bonfire pit. The kitchen was fully equipped for the cooking we did. The location was great as we took many walks to the water to see the fall colors and the cabin was surrounded by trees. Our dog was welcome which was great since we love having her around! There was a good size yard for her to run around and we appreciated that accomodation. My only minor complaint would be that it wasn't as clean as I would have expected for a beautiful cabin i.e the floor being swept and the couch slipcover being vaccumed. Overall though my family is planning the same trip next year to the same cabin.

Surprise 30th Birthday Party
Surprise 30th Birthday Party
Wow! What an amazing place and experience. My boyfriends family/friends, and I surprised my boyfriend for his 30th birthday. We had such a great experience and the house is amazing. We are sad to leave (and wish this was our house). Nice cozy lake house that is up to date and is fully equipped with everything you can ever think you would need. The yard is beautiful, and pet friendly! It was nice to play bags (corn hole) outside and have the dogs running around the property freely. It is a very peaceful neighborhood, and close to town. The beds are very comfortable, and the bathrooms are gorgeous. The house is decorated beautifully. Brent was so great to work with. Very responsive and made the experience very smooth. I would highly recommend this place to any and everyone. Thank you for making this weekend an unforgettable one for my boyfriend, friends/family, and the doggies :)

Lake Geneva, WI is a beautiful area. We traveled there for a family wedding but would love to visit again for pleasure! The town of Lake Geneva is chocked full of shops and restaurants and buzzes day and night. There are many activities mostly centered around the water. This cottage is 10-15 minutes from downtown so in a very quiet area - the only noises involve acorns dropping or bird calls. The cottage is very comfortable. The owner was most helpful in making our visit enjoyable. The nearby market is a nice amenity - it is so convenient and even though the market owner was getting ready to close for vacation, he still had everything we needed for breakfast and lunch. We would definitely recommend this cottage and the area!

About the owner: My family and I grew up vacationing in Northern Illinois and Wisconsin, but over time as resorts closed we found it incredibly difficult to find a place where the family could get together and bring our pets. Ever since we visited Lake Geneva 20 years ago, we've been going back to vacation as often as we can. As our family grew, we also found Lake Geneva to be the perfect place to take the kids. They couldn't get enough of the lake and all the fun area activities. They were amazed the first time we took them horse back riding and skiing on the lake - they said, 'Cool, it's like having our very own gigantic playground!' There was no question we had to invest in our own 'Near the Lake Home', and we’re confident you’ll enjoy the area as much as we have.
The Unique Benefits at this House:
It's the perfect destination and distance to travel from Chicago. After leaving after rush hour and pulling in the driveway 1 1/2 hours later we are always able to make the Friday night fish Fry with plenty of time to spare. The house, located on the wooded south shore, is ideal for relaxing and watching nature or if the need arises for some day or night fun - you are only five minutes from downtown Lake Geneva or Fontana. It offers the best of both worlds; peace and quiet at home and with many activities and nightlife nearby.
