Owner's Profile

Owner Description

Year Purchased: 1941

This property has been in our family since 1941. My grandmother bought 8 acres on the water (4 of them are now mine) with her inheritance from her mother for $15,000. My brother, sister and I grew up as little kids across the street where my grandparents had an old country club as a home. In the summer we would go down to the property and take their cabin cruiser out or just sit on the boat and have lunch. My dad seeded the creek and boat basin with mussels and clams when he was growing up, which are still there. In 1997 we started working on the permits to build here and in 2005 we finally received the last permit and our dream house was built. It is our intention to keep the house in the family for many years. I have nieces and nephews that I want to have similar memories as we had growing up. We decided to rent the house to defer the costs of maintaining it as well as let other people share in the experience of what has been called "it's own nature preserve". The 100 acres of nature preserves have the development rights sold off so no more homes can be built on that land. We have had some of our fondest memories here. There have been weddings, rehearsal dinners, birthday parties, Super Bowl parties as well as family reunions, holiday and Corporate events. Although the North Fork has been known to be a summer vacation destination, some of the prettiest times are in the fall, winter and spring. The house faces due South which gives the property some of the most gorgeous sunrises and sunsets ever to be seen. At night the sky is so clear you can see the stars from within the house. We welcome you to "A World of Paradise at Bayview". I'm told over and over again, "Thank you for sharing this amazing gift with us Lisa".

Why the Owner Chose Southold

My family has been visiting or living in Southold since 1941. My grandparents had a summer house here commuting from Jackson Heights Queens where my grandparents owned, cooked and ran a local diner. Their photo in the diner is in the our kitchen. In the late 50's they finally opened up my grandfather's law practice and moved out here permanently with my dad . My dad retired from commercial real estate with Mc Donald's and opened up his own real estate office here with my mom. Our family grew and my brother and sister are "True North Forker's" from birth. A birth right I can not say I share having been born in Syracuse NY. Although I started in kindergarten here, I don't hold the same title they do. When you see the bumper stickers "I was born on the North Fork" you will remember this and hopefully smile in knowing what that means to the "true locals". They are very proud of their heritage here, as I am too. There is no better place or memories than the North Fork for our family.

The Unique Benefits of this House

Having a cup of coffee or a glass of local wine and getting lost in the views. No matter what time of day or what time of year, good or bad weather it's always gorgeous! I love having the music playing in every room of the house, with the fire places on, lights dim and just taking it all in. Sitting at the butcher block island and talking to family and friends while cooking in the kitchen is one of my most favorite times. There are two wing back chairs in the kitchen along with a little table where people comfortably sit while I work away and they relax. The ceilings on the top floor where the great room and kitchen are vaulted with tounge and grove cedar planks. When you walk into this area and see the water and preserves draped behind it, everyone gasps for breath. It's impossible to describe the sunsets and the constellations that you can view from inside our home. There are many times we rush home from where ever we are to make it in time for a few of "God's wonders he gave to us"! You truely have to see it to believe it. Everyone is amazed when they get here and say the pictures don't do it justice! There are few times that we get to use the house, as it rents all year long. When we are fortunate enough that the house is open we rush from Connecticut a short 2 hours away to remind us what we work so hard for. As I always say "it's not about getting here that's difficult, it's leaving that's impossible!" There isn't one family that doesn't say "How do you EVER leave here!" You will see what they mean when you get here. We can't wait to share it with you!!

CJ and Andria 5 star review!!!!

Date of Stay: 01/26/12 Review Submitted: 01/29/12

My fiancee and I live in MN, but we knew as soon as New York passed same-sex marriage that we wanted to get married there because that is where she is from. We began looking for properties that could comfortably host the wedding ceremony and the reception, as well as provide a week-long "vacation" for our bridal party and ourselves. We want to create an experience for ourselves and our loved ones that is full of celebration, love, fun, and relaxation. We looked at a lot of potential properties but none of them fit our needs; they didn't allow weddings, the property wasn't big enough, or it was unclear if they were comfortable with same-sex weddings. Luckily, we came across Lisa's property and thought it was PERFECT! We contacted her and received a response right away. Since we are planning a long-distance wedding, my fiancee and I had a bunch of questions. Lisa was extremely prompt when answering our questions via email and graciously spent two hours of her time answering our questions over the phone. She provided numerous wedding planning tips and lots of insider information on the area's best activities, catering, and more. She even offered to perform our nuptials! Lisa is extremely accommodating and it is clear that she wants to help make everyone's wedding day as special and stress-free as it can be. She is also comfortable working with budgets of all sizes and provided many great money-saving tips. We are so excited to continue to plan our wedding with Lisa - her beautiful property offers such wonderful amenities at an unbelievable value. On top of this, Lisa's willingness to answer questions and assist with both the smaller and larger details of wedding and vacation planning makes this whole process much less daunting. We feel so blessed to have found the perfect place for our wedding and will be sure to post another review after we get married in the Fall of 2013. CJ (and Andria)

Three generations of my family stayed here for a special birthday celebration! Everything about Lisa's home is just as you read. The views are spectacular, the furnishings gorgeous and comfortable, and the location is perfect. We visited wineries, explored the property and made fabulous meals with lovely wines. If you like to cook (or eat), you will LOVE this amazing kitchen. I have been dreaming about the walk-in pantry and its incredible supplies since we left. I was happy to be woken up early by my daughter because I could sip coffee and watch the sunrise slowly lighting up the panoramic sky. You know you are in a special place if you are happy to wake up before the sun! Thank you so much Lisa!! We can't wait to return.

Most Amazing Weekend

Hi Lisa! We are part of the Robbie & Crystal Weekend. It was an experience right from the beginning. The house is gorgeous, the bathrooms feel like a spa, and every room feels welcoming. Your kitchen is one that everyone dreams of which meant that everyone had a hand in something. And the views from every part of the house were breathtaking. Our whole group had an absolutely wonderful weekend. There was something for everybody. We were able to enjoy the vineyards because they are so close by and it was so great that afterward we had a cozy spot in your home where we got to enjoy the sunset while relaxin by a fireplace. It was so beautiful! I hope we get to return to experience it in the summer. Thank you so much for having us as guests in your home!

Date of Stay: 01/06/12 Review Submitted: 01/13/12

From the very first phone call with Lisa I confidently without a moments hesitation sent her a large deposit (without even seeing the house first) !!! When a family offered her twice as much money for a week that we originally booked, she declined. Lisa’s character, problem solving ability, optimism and belief in Karma make her someone that is so fun to work with and someone you can trust instantly! Living it New York City it is so refreshing to meet someone genuine! -This is itself is enough said! Looking at the amount of remaining characters I have left I am worried I won't have enough room to talk about the FABULOUS HOME she graciously allowed us to stay in. On one hand I want to write a terrible review so others won’t want to stay there and I’ll have more weekends to choose from for future visits (....JUST KIDDING)! When I think of how special it was to stay there, I simply must pay it forward and have others experience the exact same level of PERFECTION that we did! I read and write reviews on EVERYTHING and am realizing how peculiar it is that I am giving something 5 stars and have no negatives. My husband and I eloped in St. Maarten and wanted to rent a house to have a group of our closest friends celebrate with us (We’re very non-traditional). We did just that with 14 of our closest friends and every single person there did not stop with the string of adjectives describing Lisa’s luxury home! We celebrated, laughed so much, drank too many margaritas, danced on the back decks to the outdoor sound system, cooked gourmet meals, explored the property, visited Corey Creek Vineyard and took a moment to truly appreciate the things in life that are special (The people you meet along the way…Lisa being one of them)! I’m right now trying to coordinate with the friends to agree on a weekend this summer to do an instant replay! If anyone has hesitations or questions please feel free to call me (Lisa, you can provide my information to anyone!) With So Much Love, Crystal & Robbie xoxox

A poem by my friend Joe reminding him of Bayview

Guest: JF (Greenwich, Connecticut)
Date of Stay: 12/25/11 Review Submitted: 01/04/12

At Clara’s House – A Journal One As I journey along the path I will always be drawn to Clara’s house and the peace and serenity I experienced there. It was not just an ordinary country home. It was actually a sanctuary for my soul that had been tossed around, thrown at the wall, hurled to the floor, bruised, fatigued, and feeling down and out. I did not find the house. It found me through its owners. I ran a “wanted to rent” ad and a young farmer named Tim saw it. His wife Patsy called and said, “We have got the farm house you’re looking for. It’s clean, charming, away from neighbors and has a view of the valleys. We call it Clara’s House.” The locals named it after the owner who was found dead of a heart attack on a settee in the dining room. She was ninety-five. As she grew old alone she closed off the rest of the three-bedroom house and lived in the kitchen and dining rooms. Tim and Patsy acquired it as part of the farm they bought from her estate. The two-story frame house sits on a knoll with valleys to the east and west. It has a worn out whitewashed look, faded green roof, and country cottage windows with tiny panes. It stands desolately amidst the cornfields, the closest neighbor being half a mile away. It faces the east with a country road about sixty feet from the front door. On its north side a burly pine tree reaches out to the roadway like a giant bonsai. A pole wrapped by a trumpet vine and flanked by purple lilacs and bridal wreaths marks its driveway. A row of tall evergreens shields the house from the road. Hyacinths, tulips, wild ferns and rose bushes are planted close to the walls. Towering maple and oak trees surround it, with their droopy branches touching the roof. I felt something pleasant and familiar that first time I set foot in the house. The cool temperature, the musty smell, the prismatic light playing through one window, the branches of a nearby oak tree creating a crazy quilt silhouette through another – this dizzying array of quaintness hypnotized me. I stopped in the hallway to think, but Tim interrupted to show me the rest of the house. At tour’s end I expressed my misgivings: farm buildings blocked the view to the west, and the house was too big for just one person. He apologized with some embarrassment for his wife’s call and for wasting my time. Three days later I moved to Clara’s House.?

Lisa, May the Peace of the Lord Jesus, which is beyond all human comprehension, descend on you and your family this new year. I have taken the liberty of attaching a journal I wrote about a rented house in Blue River, WI. My wife and I have lived in our first and only home in Chicago since 1972, when we bought it new. We're only 3/4 mile from the Sears Tower and 3-4 miles from the Magnificent Mile. In 1995 I purchased an Assisted Living Facility in Richland Center, WI, a rural town of 5000 people. There are more cows in our county than people. When I moved there after buying the business I rented Clara's House (see essays) and Bayview reminded me of the serenity at Clara's. Please excuse my presumption that you would be interested in reading about it but I feel the strong energy that bonds you with Bayview. Please accept my heartfelt respect and admiration for you for following your bliss. Be still, center yourself and stay open. Joe

Christmas visit with family

Jose, Thank you very much for your kind words regarding our home. We make every effort for our guests and I am so pleased you took the time to write about your wonderful 5 star experience at Bayview. Yes, being a "local" you may have thought I pulled some extra weight around here to get things done more quickly, but unfortunately it does not work that way. Through the eight years of waiting for our permits we actually were "grandfathered" with setbacks. We benefited by getting our permits for 75 foot setbacks, which now would be over three hundred feet. Through patience and perseverance we ended up with the house as close to the water as you experienced. In the summer time when you are in the pool you feel like you are in the middle of the bay the way we designed it. I'm not sure if you knew that the pool is a true heated gunnite pool which was engineered on pilings. It cost over $100,000 to have them specially make it that way. It soars 15 feet above the ground extending from the first level of the house which is also lifted 15 feet. This way you have all those beautiful water views from the bedroom you stayed in. Thank you for taking such fantastic care of our beautiful home. It's family gatherings like yours that fills this home with special memories, even if we can't see them, there is an overwhelming sense of it that lingers. You know the feeling, it's indescribable, and only something you feel when you walk in. It would be our great pleasure to have you, your family and friends back to stay with us again. Have a Happy and Healthy New Year!! All my very best...Lisa
