Saugatuck cottage description
Great vacation rental in best Saugatuck location! One of just a few private homes on the Oval Beach Road, this classic hundred-year-old cottage with guest house is nestled into the side of a wooded sand dune. In a great location surrounded by woods and walking trails, Oval Beach Cottage is steps from the Kalamazoo River, Saugatuck's chain ferry, and a 1/2 mile down the road from the beautiful Oval Beach.
Spread out over three floors, there are four bedrooms and 2.5 baths in the main house. A fabulous wrap-around screen porch offers tree-top views of the river and town of Saugatuck, and there is a hot tub to relax in at the end of the day. A large living/dining area with a cozy wood burning stove makes this a great house for entertaining, and country antiques add to Oval Beach Cottage’s warmth and rustic charm.
Just up a wooded path is the guest house (Acorn), a cozy one-room log cabin that is perfect for two. Acorn has barn-beam cathedral ceilings, a fireplace, small kitchen and bath, and a deck high up in the tree-tops.
This is truly a delightful spot

5 couples stayed at the lovely Oval Beach property for a week-long get-away the week of August 31st (Labor Day weekend). The weather could not have been any nicer. We all walked every day (the beach is only .5 miles away and it is a fabulous/picturesque walk), followed by coffee in the rocking chairs on the wrap-around porch, followed by a ride on the chain ferry to endless shopping, restaurants and water sports. We felt very secluded "up in the trees" while at the Oval Beach property. The "rustic" feel of the Oval Beach property added a more outdoorsy experience to our trip, which was a treat for all of us. The whole experience allowed for us to fully relax and enjoy our time together.

Your amazing place in the "woods" was an incredible getaway for me and my family! While only be steps away from the old-time, chain ferry that took us into town and only a 15 minute walk to the beach, we felt a sense of seclusion at your place. We loved the wood-burning stove, the wrap-around porch w/ a hot tub, the kids swingset and especially loved the 2 person guest cottage on the same property. Nestled in the beautiful trees, both the main cottage and guest cottage make you feel like you are in a beautiful treehouse. We loved the amenities and the beautiful decor! It was the fun-filled vacation we were looking for that allowed for serenity when at our 'home away from home'. Thank you!

Great Time at Oval Beach
Great Time at Oval Beach
Mark; Just to let you know we had a very good time & the weather cooperated, except for the storm, but the kids got to drink all the chocolate milk & ice cream they could hold when the power was out. My twin grandsons said the vacation was tied with Disney Word for their favorite. They loved Oval Beach and the Chain ferry. They liked the dune rides & the "Star of Saugatuck" ride. Everyone, especially my daughter, loved the screened-in porch and the openness of the main level. They laughed at the uneven floors & said it had character & a certain charm. Jim & I liked the "privacy" of the "upper" cabin and the break from Texas Heat. We also, enjoyed the picnic table and play area, where we could gather for dinner. The main kitchen was well stocked with everything we could need. It was convenient to town & the beach. I wore my "Don't Mess with the Mitten" t-shirt and got many comments from merchants & shoppers.

Counting the days until we return!
Counting the days until we return!
Our family has been renting this cottage for ten years and can't wait to return this summer! We love the open air feel, the Oval Beach so close, the amazing location between the river and the lake, walking to the ferry (much better then trying to park in town during the busy summer months!), the lush woods surrounding it (lots of deer sightings), hot tubs in the morning, rocking on the screen porch in the evenings, watching the big paddle boat go down the river, the old fashioned summer cottage style, tasteful furnishings, and cleanliness. Very cozy and charming. A wonderful respite from modern day pressures. Thank you.

Wonderful Riverfront view
Wonderful Riverfront view
We stayed at this property in August of 2011, and truly enjoyed it. The house was very clean and had everything we needed. The porch is fabulous - we completely enjoyed mornings and evenings relaxing there. The furnishings are nice and the house is very comfortable; nice and airy in the shade of the trees. It was fairly hot (90 +) the week we visited, so daytime in the house was a little steamy but not prohibitive. Unfortunately the Chain Ferry wasn't operating a couple days we were there, but all in all we had a good experience here and would stay again - Thanks for sharing your home with us!

About the owner: We love this very special area of the country. The woods, the dunes, the beach, the farms, the antique stores, farmer's markets, light houses, fog horns, great restaurants, art galleries and the historical charm.
Why the Owner Chose Saugatuck:
Our family has owned cottages in Saugatuck for over 75 years! Wanted a classic summer cottage in a great location. We think ours is very special.
The Unique Benefits at this Cottage:
It is hard to beat the location of this property. You can walk just a few steps to the Chain Ferry that crosses the Kalamozoo River and puts you in the heart of downtown Saugatuck (beats the parking woes!). Wooded walking trails, views of the sailboats coming down the river and super close to the beach! As the last house on Oval Beach Road, the beach is less than a 1/2 mile.
