Accommodations: House, 2 Bedrooms + Sleeping Porch, 1.5 Baths (Sleeps 4)
Keywords: Private Home
"Hale 'O Imi Loa" (Hawaiian for "House of Christopher", and named after our son Chris) is located in a quiet, remarkably beautiful residential area of Princeville, in a charming cul-de-sac with a view of Makana Mountain, renowned for the "Bali Hai" rock, recognized in dozens of Hollywood movies. If peace and quiet is your thing, this is the place for you. Best described as modest, cozy, quiet, and cottage-like. Access (either through hiking, walking, or driving) to major attractions is literally minutes away: island helicopter tours, horseback riding, golfing, zipping, scuba diving, beaches.
Privacy and quiet are the hallmarks of this home, and is a major reason we decided to own it. Staying here has more of a "this is what it feels like to live in Hawaii" quality and less like being surrounded by hustle and bustle. The property is very child-friendly, has a variety of huge palm trees, and numerous varieties of flora and fauna. The swishing of palm trees and the soft sound of occasional showers adds to a truly unique tropical experience. Tables and chairs in both front and back yards (grass in the backyard, red bricked patio in the front) invite breakfast, dinner, relaxation.

Honeymooner Princeville Home on Quiet Cul-De-Sac!
Year Purchased: 2008
Why the Owner Chose Private Homes
First and foremost in our decision to buy a vacation rental in Princeville is its breath-taking vistas, the richness of the flora and fauna, the lack of crowds, and the number of beaches. We chose the North Shore of Kauai as one can walk the long beaches, and be totally alone, so much so that often you see no one for as far as the eye can see! You feel as if you are on a deserted island. The feeling, for us, enriches, nourishes, and heals us like no other place on earth.

Aloha!
Prue and I have a home in Palo Alto, California, and have lived here for the past 32 years. Prue is presently a registered nurse at Lucile Packard Children's Hospital at Stanford, and I am a retired educator. Prue grew up on Key Biscayne (the northern-most island of the Florida keys) and Miami, and I in a small agricultural town in the San Joaquin River Delta. Prue's love of island warm waters and my childhood experience with rivers (our family had a summer home north of San Francisco in the Russian River area) made us shoe-ins for water-related vacations.
My father was stationed at Pearl Harbor during World War II, and frequently talked fondly (even into his golden years) of Hawaii, and its stunning atmosphere. In short, Prue feels more at home in tropical environments, and I had always wanted to go to Hawaii.
When our two children (girl and boy) were 12 and 14 respectively, we vacationed (1984) on Kauai. We decided to vacation here as Prue had previously lived in Princeville, and worked as a nurse in 1975. Kauai is the "Garden Isle", and is arguably considered the most consistently lush in the Hawaiian island chain. Our experience was life-changing! The kids were "blown away" by the snorkeling, hiking the Na Pali trail/coastline, swimming with moray eels and giant green "honu" (Hawaiian for "turtle"), the breath-taking waterfalls, and our first Hawaiian luau! We were ready to move right then!
When I retired from teaching, we used inheritance money to purchase our island dream- home in Princeville where our spirits were so moved to love this magnificent place on earth. We wish to keep it in our family, and our family's family for as long as possible. At present, we have three wonderful and beautiful grand-daughters. Our four-year-old grand-daugher so often says her favorite thing about our place is chasing the roosters and chickens in the morning and evening!
Mahalo!

We are a family of three, with a 2yr old. This home was perfect for our time on Kauai. The home is located in a beautiful area and was centrally located for all of our favorite spots, including Hanalei and Moloa'a. It is well-maintained and thoroughly stocked with all that we needed for our stay. I particularly loved having the pack-n-play on site (we rented one last year), the washer/dryer was an important amenity to us, and the beach gear was put to good use. I was also able to enjoy two books out of the owner's library. We could have packed much lighter considering it is a well-stocked house in a convenient location to the Princeville shopping center. I will remember this for next time! We referred to Hale O' Imi Loa as Andy's (our son's) Kauai House or Hale O' Andy. He cheered every time we arrived back to "Andy's House." Andy loved feeding the birds and enjoyed eating his meals on the enclosed Lanai. The home is very cool and airy as the windows bring in Kauai's lovely tropical breezes. The owners do a fabulous job of accurately describing all that this home has to offer. A perfect, tranquil setting that we hope to visit again and again. Thank you so very much for sharing your home with us.

Owner Guestbook entry: We have spent a lovely week in Kauai, based on your wonderful home--thank you for allowing us to use it! The baby loved your "floor" & fish pillows & rolled on them constantly--the house was also nice-and-toddler-safe. We were very pleased that all was available--towels, hats, beach toys; so much more than we expected! (I wonder why we ever stayed at a hotel). Beds are so comfortable, & we loved your lanai & back garden. We fed your birds (they're crazy! Bejillions of them and pretty too). Lots of fun to watch! We would love to come back again. Mahalo!

Owner Guestbook entry: Comfortable, airy, perfect size, nice garden. Everything provided and labelled. Excellent for family. Your own place with a garden and big porch--no worries about noisy guests on other side of hotel room wall; no worries about baby disturbing others. House is so well-provided for (towels, beach toys, movies, baby cot, etc.).

The North Coast is the most beautiful part of the most beautiful island. The air is sweeter, the breezes more soothing, the greens greener. The first time you look down onto tarot patches from the Hanalei River Lookout, you know this place is magical.Hale ‘O Imi Loa is located in Princeville, near where the road starts to descend to cross the Hanalei Bridge. The town is on a bluff about 200 feet above the ocean. The Hale is a small home in a very pleasant neighborhood on a quiet cul de sac. The yard has been cleverly landscaped to allow real privacy. The experience of living in a home in Hawaii is different from the hotel/resort experience. It is more quiet and personal. Instead of being surrounded by people, your closest neighbors are the Java sparrows who swarm to the bird feeder, the doves who eat the seed the sparrows fling to the ground and the ubiquitous Kauai chickens who clean up after the doves. Since the Hale is in a neighborhood, a stay there gives some sense of what it might be like to live in Kauai. There are two swimming spots within walking distance: the Queen’s Bath (a depression in the rocks in a spectacular setting protected from the waves) and Hideaways Beach. You have to navigate somewhat steep paths to get to these but they are worth the walk! Alternately, the magnificent Hanalei Beach is just a 10 minutes’ drive. The Hale is just a short drive from the Princeville Shopping Center. There is a Foodland Grocery Store (which has everything you could need), a hardware store where you can get a big bag of birdseed for $10 (highly recommended) and, most importantly, a Lappert’s Ice Cream shop. During our visit, someone had set up a stand selling CDs of Hawaiian music outside the grocery store. The house is very comfortably furnished. There are symbols from the world’s religions throughout the house intended to welcome all. The beds are extremely comfortable. The kitchen is completely equipped. There is a cable wifi LAN system set up. Prue and Jim have left snorkeling gear, comfortable beach chairs boogie boards and beach mats for use. While we were there, each morning around sunrise, a rain shower would sweep over the area. As it moved southwest, the rising sun would catch the rain so that there were rainbows against the north Kauai mountains. All we had to do was open the front door and look. What could be better?
