Spacious Mountain Cabin in Big Canoe

We have had scrap bookers, Young Life groups, and other large groups stay at our home because it is so roomy and sleeps so many. The bunk room sleeps six kids (single bunk and a full size bunk), and there is also a queen bed room and a pull out sofa downstairs. On the main level the master has a king and there is another queen. There is even a carpeted loft area with a futon and plenty of room for sleeping bags. Perfect for family reunions!
Also downstairs we recently replaced an old ping pong table with a new, IPod playing air hockey table that the kids spend hours playing on. The kids can also watch their own shows in the lower level TV area.
The main level is cozy and features a giant kitchen and huge dining room (which also makes for a great game table for the whole clan). The screened porch and back deck offer wonderful mountain views and much needed quiet, or cozy up to the fireplace and watch a DVD. You'll find relaxation comes naturally in our home.

Our full week at this cabin over Christmas 2012 was outstanding. It was the perfect place for 6 adults and 4 childern (2 girls and 2 boys). The accomodations were excellent, with bedrooms for the adults and plenty of room for the little ones. The loft area was particularly popular. We had brought our video projector and some videos and the loft made a great "media" room. Beds were comfortable and all the household items one could ever need were provided. It was cold, but the fire place was great and heating was available for each room if needed. Plenty of wood was provided. None of us really wanted to watch TV or be too connected to the outside world, but good cable and internet connections all work fine. (We had to watch a little football.) Childern enjoyed the downstair family room. We really like having three full bathrooms. The Big Canoe area has a lot to see and do. Had some great hikes to water falls. This was our first experience with rental a complete house and it was great. We've usually stayed in resorts or large lodges. We'd do this again. Thanks for the great experience!Recommended for: Romantic getaway, sightseeing, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, age 55+.

Our family of fourteen had an absolutely wonderful vacation and were very comfortable in the Murphy's home! We found the house to be very clean and well maintained. There was more than enough room for eight adults and six grandchildren -- the layout of the house allowed for us to have ample family space as well as privacy when needed. The little ones loved the bunk room and the air hockey table! We are hoping to be able to return in the not too distant future.Recommended for: Romantic getaway, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, age 55+.
Owner response: Thanks so much for your kind words... So happy that you had such a nice time at our home in Big Canoe! Look forward to seeing you again soon : )

Our family of four generations all had our own cozy space to relax, read, play cards, board games and watch football. The kitchen and seating accomodated 13 for Thanksgiving dinner. The owners have generously provided all the comforts of home including comforters, linens, firewood, movies, games and books. We can see how the summer months would also be an ideal time to visit Big Canoe. The owners were very helpful as well as the Big Canoe employees.Recommended for: Romantic getaway, sightseeing, families with teenagers, adventure seekers, families with young children, girls getaway, age 55+.

I would like to thank the Murphy's for sharing their home. It was a beautiful place. There were 12 of us, 7 adults and 5 children, and we had plenty of room to relax and enjoy ourselves. Our granddaughters said, this was the best place we had ever stayed. They loved the bunkroom, because they all got to stay together in one room. They enjoyed the downstairs game room as well. We had a wonderful time. The Murphy's were very helpful in that they answered any questions we had, sent an email the day before we were supposed to be there, about a weather alert, and also had a basket of goodies in the refrigerator when we got there. I would highly recommend their home.Recommended for: Sightseeing, families with teenagers, adventure seekers, families with young children, girls getaway, age 55+.

Our family will always remember Thanksgiving 2010 at Big Canoe. The house is centrally located, has magnificent views and is very, very spacious allowing the young adults to enjoy games in the terrace level family room without disturbing the older adults and sleeping baby on the main level. It also very easily accommodated the fourteen of us for our Thanksgiving meal. I can't say enough about the willingness of the owners to make sure our visit was memorable and that all of our needs and questions were satisfied. They are most gracious hosts.Recommended for: Sightseeing, families with teenagers, families with young children, age 55+.

A great place to spend a few days, so much to do inside Big Canoe, golf, tennis, swimming, canoeing, paddle boats. water slide, boating, fishing concerts at the amphitheatre, hiking, daily sighting of deer and other wild life. Great food at the Veranda and Black Bear Pub, all very very reasonably priced, Will recommend this home at Big Canoe to all my friends.Recommended for: Romantic getaway, sightseeing, families with teenagers, adventure seekers, families with young children, girls getaway, age 55+.

About the owner: Our family has lived in north Atlanta since we were married in 1984. We love Atlanta, but we love to get away, also. In 2005, we found this fantastic cabin in nearby Big Canoe. We are an active family and our kids are very involved in sports and other extracurricular activities which makes it tough to enjoy this home as much as we'd like.
Why the Owner Chose Big Canoe:
We think of our Big Canoe home as the perfect getaway when we don't have time to drive to the coast. It's just 40 minutes from our home, but when we are here we feel like we're a million miles from our lives, especially when we see the deer, wild turkey and even occasional black bear that roam freely. The golf course is outstanding and offers lots of interesting holes and vistas. The new clubhouse is a great place for happy hour or dinner. Kids love the hiking trails, beach, swimming pool and play fields. But most of all we love the quiet beauty of the mountains.
The Unique Benefits at this House:
Big Canoe is one of North Georgia's finest resort communities. There is so much to do inside the gates, but you are also close to lots of other attractions. We love taking the hour drive to the Ocoee River and rafting (half day or full day). Even closer are Anna Ruby Falls, the outlet mall in Dawsonville, the Kangaroo ranch, and many other destinations. Don't forget to hike the trails in Big Canoe while you're here, and visit the rock water slide near the beach.
