Fabulous 2 Family Mountain Vacation Home Near Shaver Lake
Year Purchased: 2009
Why the Owner Chose Shaver Lake
Accessibility, Diversity, and Affordability. Within a few hours of San Francisco or Los Angeles, your family and friends can enjoy affordable all-season recreational amenities in a pristine alpine setting, Shaver Lake. Maybe the best kept mountain secret in California. This luxurious mountain lodge is spacious, rustic, fully-equipped, Wi-Fi connected, and perfect for one family or two. We wanted to be able to bring our kid's friends with us on a vacation adventure and have found Shaver to be the perfect spot - fun, safe, and affordable.
The Unique Benefits at this Cabin
What makes Shaver Lake and this cabin unique is that it has all the important amenities of Tahoe or Mammoth, but priced affordably for thrifty family budgets. At this spacious vacation home you can completely relax in fine comfort when indoors and experience high adventure outdoors: sledding on this property, or nearby hiking, biking, snow skiing, water skiing, sailing, sculling, fishing, ATV.
Great Winter snow - lots of run, nearly 2,000 ft of vertical rise. Thirty minutes from the cabin
See a stand of giant Sequoia trees at Nelder Grove, off Dinkey Creek Road. Accessible most of the year.
Pristine alpine Lake, surrounded by tall evergreens. Warm swimming water in summertime, well marked "safe" areas on the lake's perimeter. Lake not over run by noisy drag boats. Gas dock on the lake. Electric, or power boat rentals. 3 miles from cabin door step to NW end of Lake.
Casual, friendly town with good restaurants, sporting good supplies, all-season rental equipment, accommodations, excellent hardware-mercantile supplies, and many weekend community activities.
Cabin is about 1 mile from the more secluded South End of the lake which is fabulous for swimming, fishing, or mooring your boat. Walk or bike there in minutes on cabin backroads.
Want to safely do rock diving; or slide down a natural water slide? Head up to Dinkey Creek.
Owner's Map of Shaver Lake
Our family loves the outdoors, and experiencing it with friends and family - in alpine elegance. This luxurious vacation home with hewn cedar log siding, and wide-cut hardwood floors throughout, allows guests to share the enjoyment of a mountain estate, surrounded by tall cedar trees. And this high country get away gives you a quiet retreat - enjoy watching snowfall and reading a book, while staying warm near to a stone fireplace. Your two families will be able to meander along new mountain trails in the winter, beat the summer heat by sunbathing next to a pristine lake, or shoosh after each other down the many powdery slopes of nearby Sierra Summit Ski Resort. Or you could walk near the road or snowshoe through the woods one-half mile to one of Shaver Lake towns espresso shops. The two staircases nicely separate sleeping quarters, giving you the opportunity to freshen up or take a nap in privacy, while other family members are watching their favorite college game on the big HD screen downstairs.
Shaver Lake and the Clark Mountain Vacation Home give you all the benefits of a group vacation at Mammoth or Tahoe, at a fraction of the cost for 2 family lodging, summertime water amenities, or wintertime snow sports.
Shaver is a warm, laid-back community, not unlike our childhood towns. But the incredibly diverse high elevation terrain at Shaver allows you and your kids to experience snow skiing only minutes away, or trek get into fresh snow with cross country skis or snow mobiles. You can also cut across a ski boat wake, tack hard in a dinghy sailboat, paddle a kayak in a secluded waterway, spot deer on a hiking trail, sip wine on an electric party boat, or push back from a scrumptious dinner at a a community restaurant. You too will love Shaver Lake. Welcome from our family to yours!

This was a beautiful cabin amid the Sierra pines. The cabin was wonderfully appointed and furnished and not overdone. Kitchen was well equipped and easy for two or three to work in. Better to cook at home-didn't think much of the Trading Post restaurant in town! Wonderful fireplace that let us all warm. Great TV And w-fi all the comforts of home. Comfortable beds. Good privacy. Nice hiking trails nearby. Am looking forward to going back!

We just got home literally an hour ago and I had to respond to this house. We have been going to Shaver for many years and our grown kids have rated this property their favorite out of all of the homes we have rented. It was very clean and we loved the layout of the home. The description of the property was very accurate. It is close to town with easy access to the lake. We loved the ample parking. We were a little nervous when we arrived to find it so close to the highway, but our skepticism was melted completely away as we heard no traffic noise at all from inside the house and the outside noise was not a problem at all. Relaxing in the spa was especially enjoyable after a day of skiing and playing. Also loved the "mud room" for dropping off all of the "stuff" to keep it from being in our way in the living area. The owner of this property is very friendly and helpful and answers inquiries quickly. I would highly recommend this property to anyone. James, we hope to be able to rent your lovely home annually for our trips to Shaver!! Thanks again, The Taylors
Owner response:Thanks so much for your kind words. Agree - the cabin seems too close to 168 but all the big cedar trees block noise and the view of it. From a kid-safety standpoint there are benefits of being close to a highway. Shaver is in the high Sierras where large as well as small critters roam. The closer a cabin is to the highway, the less chance a large wild animal, like a bear, will encroach. We like that about our location. Plus in the wintertime it's nice to be able to walk to town in the snow, either on 168 or the cabin backroad.

My family has stayed at this place with my sister's family a couple times and we hope to return every year to ski at China Peak. There's plenty of room for three families to stay here; each with their own area. This is a very spacious, comfortable and recently remodeled property just below the town of Shaver Lake. The pictures are very representational of what you'll find when you get there. The place was clean and ready for us to move right in for the weekend. The owners are friendly and reachable should you have any questions or issues and have enlisted the help of a local caretake to attend to any issues that might negatively impact your stay. There's lots of room to spread out as there are two discreet upstairs areas with separate staircases in addition to the 2 bedrooms on the main level. This floor plan makes it possible for me to sleep like a baby in one area while my brother-in-law Allen is snoring loudly enough to create an avalanche on the other side of the house. The bedrooms are spacious and the beds are firm and comfy. We've really enjoyed the ping pong table and hot tub. There's also a big screen TV if that's your thing. This place is not only comfortable, but highly functional. For example, after parking in the attached garage, there's a very spacious mud room upon entering the house where you can remove your boots and store your gear without dragging it through the place. And, the hot tub is conveniently accessible through an exterior door in the main-level bathroom that minimizes exposure to the winter cold. The drive to China Peak is 35-45 minutes depending on road conditions and traffic. The turn off to the Dinky Creek trailhead for hiking and backpacking is just a couple miles up the road toward Shaver Lake. Hope this review is helpful.
Owner response:Thank you very much for your detailed description of not only our cabin, but the area as well. jc

We stayed at this cabin over Labor Day weekend - two families, with younger kids and a couple of teenagers - and it was perfect! Great location just off the main road and close to town. The bedrooms upstairs, split on either side of the house, were great for getting the younger kids to bed early and the two downstairs worked out perfect for the teenagers who like to stay up late. The kitchen is to die for....way better than my kitchen at home in fact! Plenty of dishes, utensils and cookware - all very nice. The teenagers LOVED the big screen tv :-) We used the bbq and the hot tub too. It really is as spectacular as the photo's show. We will be back!
Owner response:Thank you. We would love to have your family return

Very big house, perfect for two families. We went with my husband's parents and they got the "west wing" and we got the "east wing". It really is set up cool, it feels like two houses that share a downstairs. The owners were more than accomidating, we had trouble with the internet and the oven and in twelve hours they were remedied. The hot tub bleached out all the color in my kids' bathing suits, but it made me feel really good about it being clean! (It helped they were last year's suits). The house is very well kept and clean, you can tell it's a home that is cared about. The furnace is really loud, and is right next to the kitchen, but it was away from our bedrooms so it didn't interrupt our sleep. We had a great time and will keep it in mind the next time we head for Shaver.
Owner response:Thanks Jennifer - glad you enjoyed your stay. Appreciate your flexibility in working around the area power surge that affected many cabin renters; glad it all worked out. We will probably try to insulate the furnace door to reduce blower noise in the future - appreciate the tip. jc

We rented this cabin for a weekend of snowboarding in the beginning of January and could not be more satisfied. It was myself and 10 other guests from 21 yrs to 30 yrs of age. By far the best cabin in the community more than enough room in the house for us all to get together in one common area and do whatever we wanted. I wish I had more hands to give this place 4 thumbs up lol. Will definately do business in the future.

This cabin worked out perfect, very cozy and inviting. My parents didn't want to leave, they enjoyed it so much. This cabin accomodated our large family very comfortably. One of my nephews, who is 4, asked if we could stay 10 days, LOL. We got some snow and that made it extra special, the kids really enjoyed playing in it. We are definitely hoping to rent it again, we all enjoyed the stay very much. The owners are great and made the entire process very pleasant. We will be back. The Brumley Family

We have stayed at this cabin twice and our family loves it and we cant wait to go back. The location is great because it is near the town, the lake, and the mountain for skiing. The cabin has a lot of great rooms and can easily accomodate two families comfortably. It is clean and all the equipment works. Great TV for watching football and movies. The owner is very easy to work with and went out of his way to make sure everything we needed was taken care of.
