Why the Owner Chose Mariners Watch

We chose to buy a villa in Mariners Watch because of the LOCATION--in the bldg and on the island in general.

The Unique Benefits at this Villa

Our top floor, corner villa has lots of windows and a screened porch overlooking a lagoon. We love to have our morning coffee while watching for alligators and herons! The beach access is 200 yards away--an EASY walk with kids. The Night Heron Park is also an easy walk (even for our 3 year old). We also love to go for ice cream just a 5 minute drive away at the straw market.

A
Night Heron Park & Nature Center

Recreation area and Nature Center.

B
The Sanctuary

Five star resort. Great for a "date night". Have a nice dinner out at any of their restaurants or enjoy the spa.

C
The Straw Market

Shopping, "Shrimper's" Restaurant is casual, family dining--less expensive than dining at the Sanctuary. "Scooper's" Ice Cream shop is a favorite for kids!

D
Freshfields

This shopping center has a really nice grocery store. They also have restaurants (including Italian, Bar/Grill, coffee shop, etc) and Vincent's--a pharmacy /restaurant/ice cream store.

E
The Ocean Course

Site of 1991 Ryder Cup. Rated the 4th hardest course in the US by Golf Digest. Will host the 2012 PGA Championship in August 2012.

F
Osprey Point Golf Course

pristine golf course!

H
Cougar Point Golf Course

Closest to our villa. Easy to get there. Another pristine golf course.

Owner's Map of Mariners Watch

This is a picture of us on Kiawah (not in our villa). My husband has been vacationing on Kiawah Island with his family since the 1970's. I visited Kiawah for the first time in 2001, and I just fell in love with the place. We spent our honeymoon and first two wedding anniversaries at the old Inn. Then, we bought our villa in 2005. We truly plan for this island to be our family's vacation spot for MANY years to come. Kiawah's protected dunes and pristine beaches are gorgeous. The amazing wildlife and beautiful landscape are nothing short of paradise.

Friendly owners, great location, condo better suited for 2 people than 4

First of all, the owner was wonderful to work with and very helpful when planning our first trip to Kiawah. The location at Mariners Watch is perfect for a family that plans to utilize the beach as well as the pool and Night Heron Park. Although the condo advertises that it "sleeps 2-4 people", I truly think it is better suited for only 2. We had planned on my 2 daughters sleeping on the pullout sleeper couch, and my husband and I in the main bedroom. We had expected it would be "snug" and this was fine with us. Unfortunately, the mattress to the pullout couch was very thin, and you could feel every coil in it. Needless to say, it was too uncomfortable for them to sleep on, so we used the blow up air mattress we had brought with us from home. Also, when we first opened the pullout couch, there were dirty sheets on it from the previous occupants. We called housekeeping, and they brought us clean sheets, but they weren't too apologetic about it. The remote control for the TV in the main bedroom was not working. We replaced the batteries, but this did not help. Also, I realize that I was on a southern barrier island, and seeing a bug or two is to be expected. However, throughout the week, we encountered about 5-6 beetles and it just seemed like a little much. Overall, the condo is nicely furnished, in a great location, and would work well for 2 people.

Owner response:We welcome constructive feedback as an opportunity for improvement. Please note, we are changing our property management/rental company to Sweetgrass Vacation Rentals as of October 1, 2011 and are excited about improvements that will come with that change. While choosing a new property manager, housekeeping was one of our top priorities. Leaving sheets in the convertible bed is absolutely unacceptable. The new housekeeping staff will change the linens on the convertible bed for every stay, regardless of use. We do have routine pest control. In our investigation of this issue, we discovered that our villa missed one treatment in July. We are working with the pest control company to ensure this absolutely does not happen again. Also, we would have been glad to have spot treatment done if we had been notified of the problem during this guest's stay. In regard to the comfort of the convertible bed, we are currently investigating more comfortable options, including purchasing a better mattress or an inflatable mattress. Last but not least, we were notified of the non-working remote by a subsequent renter. A new remote was delivered to the villa the same day the complaint was received. We strive to meet or exceed our guests' expectations. Sweetgrass Vacation Rentals staff will be available to handle issues that arise quickly. Thank you for your review as it gave us an opportunity to better our next guest's stay.

Your condo was just as promised - comfortable, nicely updated, and close to the beach. Thank you for making it available for our last-minute, end-of-summer get away. The weather was beautiful on Saturday and Sunday, and we enjoyed the freshness of the late day showers from your screened porch on Friday evening. We will be back! Barry and Christy
