The only regret we had about our stay is that it wasn't longer! Nina and Richard were very helpful with suggestions when we were planning our trip. The property was gorgeous and peaceful. It's 5-minute walk to the Fairmont Orchid Hotel which is the host hotel for the Hawaii Half Ironman. Would definitely stay here again!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, families with teenagers, girls getaway, romantic getaway.

This was our second time staying at this property and it was just as perfect as we remembered. Once again Richard and Nina were always prompt with handling any questions we had. They are completely trustworthy and honest which is so nice when dealing with VRBO properties. The villa is always kept in prestine condition and there really is not one thing that they have not thought of. The kitchen is stocked with every possible utencil and appliance. The beds are also very comfortable. This time we brought another couple with us and we really enjoyed making our own breakfasts and eating outside on the lanai. We also BBQ'd a couple of times and just enjoyed a relaxing evening staying in the villa. We used the beach club often and I learned to "Stand Up Paddle" by renting a surf board right there on the beach which included a quick lesson. My new icecream obsession became "toasted coconut" icecream which was easily purchased at the icecream shop behind Foodland which is about a 10 minute walk. We saw whales jumping every single day we were there and also hiked to Kiholo Bay where we saw about 30 turtles just hanging out. Enjoyed taking an ATV tour along the North Shore as well. There is just not a thing to complain about when you stay here and we will definitely be back. If you are thinking about choosing to stay here please take special care of this villa. It is a special place and needs to stay that way!!Recommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

Very, very nice place to base our Kona vacation at. Everything in the description (written and photos) is as promised. It was definitely a place I would stay at again and again. While a bit heavy-handed on the reminder notes and photos of the owners, this strategy must work well as the place was in excellent shape. Most anyone will find the number and variety of kitchen appliances mind-numbing. Definitely will miss the morning breakfasts just outside the kitchen surrounded by the local birds and tropical landscaping! If you can, go to Waimea, check out Merriman's for an excellent dinner!Recommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers, girls getaway, romantic getaway.

This two bedroom unit for 4 people is exceptional! Beautiful decor, well-appointed kitchen, quiet neighborhood, two lovely swimming pools very close by. We enjoyed the beach club every day, and also spent a lot of time at the Mauna Lani Racquet Club playing tennis. A perfect place (there are stairs up to the master bedroom) for thoughtful and considerate guests.Recommended for: Age 55+, girls getaway, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

Being vacation condo owners ourselves, we were blown away with how nice Kulalani 2006 is. This vacation rental is not your typical vacation rental. Nina and Richard have gone out of their way to create a 5 star condo to share with those who are fortunate enough to book it for their Big Island stay. The pictures of this condo do not do it justice. The condo is absolutely beautiful, from the furniture to the decor, to the lovely dishes and pretty plastic ware. The starter bath soaps and shampoos were a treat. Papaya scented. Nina also supplies plenty of cleaning items. I have been at some condos that don't even supply you with 1 bottle of cleaner. Nina and Richard supply everything you need for your pool trips and beach visits. Speaking of the pool, this condo's location is really great. The pool is practically in your back yard. Wonderful for those ice filled Mai Tai and snackie runs. There is also a fridge at the pool, so you can keep your supplies there if you choose. We visited mid December and practically had the pool to ourselves. The restrooms at the pool were modern, clean and always well stocked. The gym is located at the pool. A short walk from 2006. The machines and free weights are clean. You also have control of the air conditioning. Nina and Richard were always available to answer any questions that we had. They are a pleasure to deal with. We had such a great time that we are booking the condo again for 2013 and 2014. Do take time to read the white information binder. Nina supplies great information about the beaches, activities and dining around the Island. If you decide to book this lovely condo please take care of it as you would your own home. Treat it with respect so we can all continue to enjoy this wonderful place. Thank You Nina and Richard for sharing your special vacation home with us.Did you find this review helpful? This townhome is extremely well maintained and beautifully decorated. Great access to the pools, hot tub and exercise area. Very quiet and private. The snorkeling at the Mauna Lani beach club was one of best on islands and we did most of them including Captain Cook and Two step. We also enjoyed watching the sunset from one of the restaurants at the Fairmont Orchid, Easy to use as a base for day trips such as Pololu Valley, Mauna Kea and Kona coast. I would highly recommend this condo to anyone and look forward to my return visit.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

My husband and I just recently stayed at Richard and Nina's beautiful townhome at Kulalani. This was our 2nd visit- and even better than the first! The unit is gorgeous and it's location overlooking the pool cannot be beat. We so enjoyed the outdoor patio area and would have an afternoon mai tai on the couches. The bedroom is beautiful and we love the spa like features of the bath! The kitchen is better stocked than mine at home! Next time we plan to use the margarita maker! Thanks so much!Recommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, romantic getaway.

We had another wonderful vacation at this very well appointed condo. The owner's are very detail oriented and all you need to do is show up with beach clothes and one dinner outfit. We celebrated my husband's 65th birthday and rented 2 condos at Kulalani: this one for us and the other for our children. Although the other was great, this condo was definitely much nicer. We love the common area with the 2 pools and the large barbecue pavilion, but what brings us back to Kulalani is the beach club ( beautiful white sand beach with wonderful snorkeling. We will stay again and again in this condo. Can't wait for our next visit!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

We can’t say enough good things about our rental experience at Nina and Richard's townhome in Mauna Lani. This was our family’s first trip to Hawaii and we did not know what to expect, so all the advanced communication with the owners was extremely helpful and much appreciated. The detailed information and directions provided in our welcome package allowed us to settle in for an enjoyable and relaxed vacation almost immediately after arriving from a 12 hour flight. As the pictures show on the website, the unit is indeed beautiful and very well maintained. The club pool and exercise facilities are extremely convenient to the unit, and the private beach club is fantastic. We are keen on snorkeling and were really impressed with the variety of fish and coral accessible right off the club beach. The beach club also has shaded chairs, water sport rentals, and a sit-down restaurant so it’s easy to make a full day at the beach. We can’t wait to return!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, people with disabilities, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

This was our second time staying at Richard & Nina's paradise home. It is close to the pool and exercise area but is very quiet and restful. The kitchen is well equipped with everything you could want or need it was just like home. We enjoyed the outdoor grill. Both times it was very clean and comfortable. We especially enjoy using the beachclub and cabanas and having lunch at the restaurant at the beach. This was our second opportunity to stay at this wonderful villa and it just keeps getting better. The owners care and attention to detail is unsurpassed. We have to concur with Eric and Bruce from Seattle that it really does feel like coming home,(please read their review). We were only able to stay for one week this time due to commitments back home and it went by far too quickly. We are now looking forward to planning a trip to the big island in 2013 and without a doubt it will revolve around the availability of this villa. We highly recommend Kulalani 2006 for your stay in Hawaii.Recommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers, girls getaway, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

This was our first visit to the Big Island and our first rental through VRBO. Both were great experiences that we are sure to repeat. Our family made good use of the beach towels, fins, snorkels, coolers, beach chairs, beach bags and boogie boards provided with the rental. This is not only very convenient but saves money as well. We had full use of the garage for bike storage and were able to park our rental van right near the front door. The tag for savings at the grocery store also made a big difference. The unit's kitchen is well equipped with spices, small appliances and the BBQ on the lanai. There was nothing that we were lacking and having use of all the extras meant less of our own stuff to pack from home. We arrived quite late at night but with the directions and instructions we settled in no time. The pools, fitness centre and grounds were very quiet and we nearly always had the pools to ourselves. The Beach Club was a great place to snorkel, swim and have lunch. Thank you Richard and Nina for your attention to detail.Recommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, romantic getaway.

We enjoyed a marvelous week at Nina and Richard's townhome in Mauna Lani. It was absolutely perfect! Communication between the owners and ourselves was very open and prompt before and during our vacation. The directions given in the welcome package/email were very clear and easy to follow. ( You really HAVE to book a rental car if you are staying in the Kahlola area...there's so much to see and do ). We brought our own GPS which really made traveling around very easy. The location of the townhome within the Kulalani Resort was very well suited for privacy and access to resort amenities; we were usually the only people in the lap pool (which is very close), perfect for a morning and evening dip. The discounted keytag for the Foodland Farms grocery store just up the street saved us about 30% on our groceries.; and what a wonderful store it is: great variety, friendly staff. amazing gelatto!! We also made use of the nearby Costco store ( 20 minutes away) for more groceries as well as gasoline. Strange as it may seem to be recommending a Costco in paradise, you really have to avail of it; the prices and variety are amazing, especially for a week long (or longer) trip like we had. Now the actual house: it was heavenly. The bed was SOOOOOO comfortable. We felt like we were at home. Having the bedroom separated from the main living space was an excellent set-up. There was nothing within the house that was less than stellar. All possible items were available. The garage takes a full sized vehicle and was really helpful in keeping the inside of the car cool. Lest we forget, the two lanais made being in Mauna Lani, just sweet. Some may find that you can spend the whole day there. The stars at night were stunning, we might add. Overall, we could not have chosen a more beautiful setting for our first Big Island journey.Recommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

My new husband and I rented Richard and Nina's home for our Honeymoon in July 2011. The place was absolutely beautiful. Compared to other places we researched in/ around Kona and other vacation rentals that we have stayed in in other cities, their home was way above par. The decor in the house is modern and really beautiful- no weird wicker furniture in sight. The kitchen is fully stocked and easy to use, and the outdoor BBQ was a great way to dine in. The actual vacation complex is wonderful too. Really quiet and relaxing with multiple pools and a workout room that we took advantage of. The location was perfect- near so many great beaches and resorts- but never felt overcrowded or busy. Richard and Nina were great to work with as well, and made the whole process easy. They were responsive to our initial questions and guided us through the whole check in check out in a friendly manner. In short, we highly recommend this beautiful villa and hope to come back again someday!Recommended for: Age 55+, families with young children, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

The pictures that the owners have published do not do this villa justice. This is one of the cleanest and well kept rental properties we have ever had the opportunity to rent. Everything in the listing is as shown and more. If you are a bit of a chef or try to be the kitchen is very well equipped to indulge your skills. The villa is well located to the adult pool, exercise facilities, family pool and group area with bar-b-q , food prep area and fridge. A grocery store is within walking distance and the prices are not bad especially with the discount fob the owners have attached to the villa key. The villa is convenient to many beaches, golf courses, historic sites, tourist attractions and the expensive designer stores at the shopping mall that we call the kings and queens. The lanai's at the villa are an excellent place to relax and cook with the built in grill with sink and for sunrise pictures. We would highly recommend this villa to anyone to rent for their vacation to the big island. The owners go out of their way to ensure that this will be an enduring memory for you and your family. This really was wonderful.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, girls getaway, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

Ten days to remember..... new, beautifully kept, luxury accommodation...think high ceilings, 4 poster bed, and patios to enjoy the warm Hawaiian breezes, and all 20 steps to pristine 'private' pools and hot-tubs. From the first phone call you will feel reassured by Nina and Richard's attention to detail. Kulalani at Mauna Lani Resort is an excellent location to relax at the private beach, pools and local restaurants, or for exploring the Big Island's West side. Highlights for us: south to Kealakekua Bay to kayak and snorkel with wild Spinner Dolphins....amazing; driving a 4 x 4 to the top of Mauna Kea at 14,000 feet...not much air up there; snorkeling with turtles at Puako; playing in the waves at Hapuna Beach; fresh produce from the farmer's market at Waimea; jet skiing with playful dolphins at Kona. We also spent 4 days exploring the rest of the island....including the east coast, Hilo and Puna, and Volcanoes National Park. All fascinating....huge Banyan Trees, lush forests, warm pools, steaming vents, lava tubes, erupting volcanoes, black sand beaches and singing frogs....but allow enough time as this is the BIG Island. Our children, ages 17 and 14 enjoyed every minute. 5 stars Nina and Richard, many thanks!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, people with disabilities, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

Not only is the location perfect for relaxation; but it is in close proximity to some of the finest beaches we've been on and the bonus was the exceptional snorkeling. Richard and Nina definitely have gone the extra mile to insuring that their guests have a very comfortable stay; everything was as they advertised and more. The bonus phoning, the great grocery store etc, just added to our vacation. Excellent - one of our best vrbo experiences!! Owners have provided all the comforts of an upscale home, and the unit was very clean and well maintained. The resorts tropical pool area, and fitness facility were first class, quiet, and conveniently located to the townhouse - the photos on file did not disappoint. The Kulalani resort was impressive, and also well located within the Mauna Lani area, providing an easy walk to the Fairmont - Browns beach dining was suburb - or the Shops at Mauna Lani. We really enjoyed the Mauna Lani beach club - fantastic snorkeling (gear provided with the townhome), and walks on the oceanside trail. This was our first, but not last, trip to the Big Island, and the townhouse was a great base for all the activities and sightseeing. Wonderful golf available at Mauna Lani, Mauna Kea, and Hapuna with fabulous ocean holes and views only minutes away. Richard and Nina were very helpful and in touch throughout the process - thank you so much for sharing your vacation home!! We have already rebooked and definitely would recommend the property to others.Recommended for: Age 55+, romantic getaway.

We had a wonderful relaxing time at Kulalani property #257177. The townhome was very clean and stocked with a great kitchen. We brought two 17 year old girls, who enjoyed walking to Mani Lani and Fairmont Orchid and surrounding beaches (very safe). The entire property was quiet and had a great pool and workout facility. We really enjoyed the private beach club with a great restaurant and live music to watch the sunset. We have stayed at many VRBO properties and this was by far the best home. It was located so centrally so we could go to many activities easily. We enjoyed the hiking to the north, horseback riding in Wiamea, fishing in Kona and snorkeling at many of the close beaches. My husband even rented a bike and enjoyed many of the nice rides in the area. Anyone would surely enjoy staying at the Kulalani property.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

Mauna Laui, may be the best location on the big island. This condo is certainly the best location in the Kulalani complex. Richard and Nina have thought of everything. The kitchen is fantastic. The bar-b-que and lanai were constant use. The condo was immaculately kept, both inside and out, but not pretentious in the least. We felt at home immediately. The free internet was certainly appreciated, and the guest book had some excellent recommendations. Our favourite amenity was most certainly access to the private beach. 4 of our 5 visits had less than 50 people on the entire beach. The sand was well kept and soft. Just 20 meters out was coral with very good snorkeling. Richard and Nina provided both the snorkeling gear, beach mats, towels, and children's toys. We were travelling with a 2 year old and this location is ideal for this age and probably most family vacations. The local grocery store was surprising good and a card for discounts is provided. We found many items less expensive here than in town or even Costco. We have every intention of returning for our next family vacation and had began making plans even before we left.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, people with disabilities, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

We never felt uneasy about anything. The villa was exceptional! These owners have thought of everything. The kitchen is stocked with every convenience and the whole place is lacking nothing. It was quiet and peaceful, hardly anyone at either of the beautiful pools. We went for walks along the beach and to see the petrogryphs. Grocery shopping is very close by. My family and I stayed in this beautiful townhome during May 2010. We really enjoyed the home and the pool area. We have young children and they loved the "kiddie" pool as well as the big pool and hot tub (for quick warm ups). We also really enjoyed access to the Beach Club. It's great for children (no waves, shade), is never too crowded and has good snorkeling. The house is well equipped -especially the kitchen. We utilized the snorkeling gear and umbrellas that were available at the house which was nice. The only small downside was that the complex was loud at times- there was a group there that partied late into the night at the pool. This is probably not very common, but was a bit annoying.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, girls getaway, romantic getaway.

We've been to the Big Island several times and this was by far our most relaxing and enjoyable visit. We love the Kohala Coast for its consistently clear sunny weather and perfect beaches. Mauna Lani offers beautiful routes for long runs and walks. Kulalani is a lovely property, and this unit, Kulalani 2006, is perfectly situated for taking advantage of the pools and fitness center. The kitchen is well appointed and all the furnishings tasteful and comfortable. The abundance of windows provided great light throughout the day. We originally booked for 7 nights and extended our trip because everything was so lovely. The owners were very responsive and helpful.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 2/2

Beautiful property and unit was very well maintained and equipped. Loved the beach club amenities. If you want to relax, this area is a great option. Owners were great to work with. Pools not heated so pretty chilly at Thanksgiving time.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 1/1

We stayed 5 nights after Christmas and loved it!! This house has everything you could want. We loved the lavish decor. They provided beach equipment, which is so nice b/c you can't pack that stuff. We enjoyed using the Viking grill on the lanai. The unit is in a great location in complex, right next to the gate for the pool. The pools and fitness area are also very nice. The owners are very helpful and respond quickly to e-mails. I would highly recommend this unit for either families or a few couples traveling together. We also enjoyed having access to the beach club. Snorkeling was very good there. We would come back again!!Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 1/1

Townhouse is clean, well maintained and equipped with everything you need to have a great vacation...including free internet if you bring your lap top. It is also one of the best locations in the complex right next to the pool and fitness facilities. Toughest part of staying here is deciding whether to go to the pool (20 sec walk) or to the private beach that you get to access by staying at this complex (2 min drive). There are other amazing beaches close by but if you have a young family the private beach is excellent as you can snorkel, go for a swim, relax on the chairs under the palm trees, and even have lunch or snake at the club restaurant. Restaurants and shopping very close to complex but you will need to drive - but no matter where you stay on Kona you need a car to get around. The owners are are great and very helpful including letting you know about some great island activities and even a promo code for a car rental! I would highly recommend this property for adults and for a family with young kids...that was us. I would recommend this property.Recommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, romantic getaway.
