  After reading the review, was kinda worried, but wow! The inside of the house has all new paint, according to the PM it was done the week before we rented. It is clean and happy inside! And a brand new stove that we put to good use for Christmas treats to pass out on our way home. Our dog was welcome. The walk from the house to the beach down the boardwalk was easy for all of us. The neighborhood is quiet, one "owner" was kinda rude, he kept trying to tell us we "weren't welcomed by the association" what ever that was supposed to mean, we figured he drank. Everyone else that was on the circle while we were there was great. There's not a view, but we didn't care. The winds roared also, and that was really sorta neat, made wonderful waves. Everything we needed was there for our comfort. Would recommend this house for families, with small or even teenage kids. It's perfect if you are just a couple like we were, the second bedroom is upstairs, so the main floor is like having a personal chalet at the beach for a newlywed couple or older couple wanting a get-away. It's an easy drive to the city to hang out at the VFW or Salty Dog! Both great places with nice people on both sides of the bar! The taxi drivers are a bit crazy, but it's cheap to get home and not get a ticket. This is the economical way to go, for less than the Holiday Inn or the Best Western we stayed and had a real house.

  Recommended for: Families with teenagers, sightseeing, age 55+, adventure seekers, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway, pet owners.

  That other review sounds like sour grapes! We have rented this house 4 times in the past 3 years. It is what we consider our "Home-Away-From-Home". It is a little ragged around the edges, but it's like your old school sweatshirt you just can't get rid of, it's comfortable and warm. Cracked plates, really? You are at the beach, in a cozy little house that doesn't cost you an arm & a leg, get over a chip or two. If you want ritzy, pay for it! We bring our egg pan and a stock pot, the kitchen is ready for everything else. Once we needed a couple flat pans, the manager said if we wanted to pick up what we needed, they would reimburse us, $4.50. No biggie! We were thrilled they were still here when came back. The beds are comfortable. The bedding is new from the last time we were here in Spring. The walls are marked up and really need paint, but the management company knows, they told us they just have trouble finding someone to do the work. Having hung out with the "local" we can believe that, most would rather drink than work. :-) The deck is nice, you can't really see the water, but you can hear it. And the boardwalk is just a short walk to the beach road. We met the owner of the house several years ago when we stayed at another property. She's a sweet lady, but lost her husband and is trying very hard to make the house nice instead of worn. A little understanding goes a long way, especially when we only pay a little bit for rent. Parking is a premium around the circle. So we always plan to just bring two cars. You are close to town and it is easy to get to and from Corpus if you have to fly in. Our pets love the house, and yes, we were some of the ones who complained that their feet fell through the cracks between the boards, we were very happy the management cared enough to find a way to fix this issue fast and easy. If you want a rental property that fits a small family, and that makes your vacation affordable, this is the house for you.

  It was really close to the beach. We just had to walk down the board walk. So that we really enjoyed. The home was dingy - walls were gross. Carpets were stained and had burn marks in them. Some of the dishes were cracked. They didn't provide basic spices that I would expect to be in a fully stocked kitchen there wasn't even salt and pepper. The turnstyle in the cupboard was broken. The bottom of the dishwasher was all kicked in. It was really hard to get onto the deck because there was some kind of track on the floor blocking the doorway from opening completely. We were concerned about going out on the deck, because there was all this loose plywood laying ontop of the decking. We couldn't see out of the windows because they were all waterstained. The pictures in the listing look much better than what we saw when we got there. The outside doors were sticky and hard to open and close. If we had had the option we would have stayed somewhere else. I was very disappointed in the rental. But it is in a great location.

  Owner response: We are sorry you disliked the inexpensive little beach house. No spices are provided due to the unbelieveable amount of allergies people have, other companies have been threatened with a lawsuit for having "things" in the house. So, no, they are not part of the "fully stocked kitchen". It does need some TLC, which the widow that owns the home is having us do what she can, when she can but still keep the price where it is affordable to people who need low rent. The boards on the porch are for safety, they cover the spaces between the deck boards because this house is pet friendly, we have had guests say their small dogs have hard time not slipping into the cracks, we were trying to accommodate those guests and upset you. Sorry about that, we'll see if there may be a third option to make all happy. The dishwasher we had our maintenance people check, not sure what was wrong on the bottom of that appliance, but they found nothing that would make it inoperable. We spoke about the dishes just after you got in during one of your phone calls to our office. It is a "beach" house and they take a lot of rough use, especially in a lower priced unit. We'll try to get them replaced with non-chippable as soon as money is available. With the Gulf being 250 yards away, keeping the windows clean is a huge job, we'll work harder at that. The spray 24/7 makes it a daily event. That is also what makes the doors stick, the high humidity. You may want to stay somewhere closer into town where there is not any spray/mist to make this not an issue on your next visit. We hope to address all the problems you have listed very soon.
