Max and Tracey have an absolutely beautiful property. If you like quiet surroundings away from crowded tourist places, then this is the rental for you! Haiku is a quaint little town with friendly people and it is a great place to set up your base and visit the entire gorgeous island of Maui. The ocean view here is fabulous and the fruit from the property is delicious. I miss it everyday. One of the best features about this property is Buttercup, Max and Tracey's adorable yellow lab. She greeted us each morning as well as after each of our daily adventures. We are already planning our next visit and I would recommend this rental to anyone! Just got back from nearly 2 weeks at this quiet Local paradise. We stayed in the Studio apartment, and though I would call it "rustic" -- just to make sure people don't mistake this for some sterilized resort setting -- because staying here is staying at someone's home, and the grounds are kept nicely groomed and abound with fruit trees. Buttercup, the dog, greets you most mornings, and sits at the doorway until well past sunset. I welcomed her visits! The local doves and Myna birds wake you with a pleasant song. The palms whisper constantly, the ocean view is lovely. While the Studio isn't the lap of luxury (for that you'll pay twice the cost), for those of us seeking a super-local experience, that is exactly what we got; close to Ho'okipa beach, Paia, Makawao and the famous Hana Highway, it was as far from the bustling tourist strip in both time, essence and drive-time as we could get (almost), and that is exactly what we wanted. I came back to the hectic Bay Area refreshed, serene, and thankful for Tracey's Aloha. Never met Max, but his papaya trees are in full fruit at the moment, just a couple days short of my enjoying them. Oh well, the citrus, avocados (which also didn't want to be ripe during my visit) and even a prolific pepper tree (which I carefully hulled and cracked for an amazing Maui beef and cracked pepper stir fry one night) make for a magical get away from everything -- this isn't tourism; it's localism. I highly recommend it. I also recommend taking advantage of this location to explore the Maui most tourists don't have time to visit, everything East, North and Upcountry -- so many local stores, restaurants, farms and farmstands, so much Aloha you won't miss the hoards of tourists in West Maui, even though you can get that, too, in a relatively short drive. You are so close to the Hana road, you have ample time to drive the whole route and see everything along the way. You're also close to Kahului, where all major shopping and malls are located. Nothing sells this area better than the lush foliage and beautiful, friendly people.Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, age 55+, romantic getaway.

I knew Max only through emails, but I couldn't imagine how beautiful person he was until there. We arrived late in the evening, tired, hungry...and under a shower, but Max are waiting for us, giving us a warm welcome. In the cottage we found fresh oranges and citrus (and a wonderful squeezer, too!), and Max and Tracey put in the fridge some stuffs to make a meal and a breakfast for the next morning. When we woke up...wow! What a beautiful view from the lanai! The cottage is beautiful, clean and very well maintained, cozy, with a full stocked kitchen. The location is simply perfect: 1 mile and the Road To Hana starts, near upcountry Maui and the Haleakala Park (not to be missed!), beaches just few miles away and away from the rush of all those tourists hotel...what ask for more? Pick up fruits, go back in the cottage, squeeze them and have a wonderful beverage...have a chat with Max on the Lanai...play ball with Buttercup...that's life!!!! Surely we'll stay there again: Max is becomes a friend.Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, age 55+, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.

I stayed in one of Tracey and Max's cottages for 8 blissful nights. I was greeted with fresh citrus from the orchard, and there was a juicer in the kitchen. Fresh juice quickly became my breakfast of choice. The kitchen was fully stocked. It had all the appliances and cookware I needed. The bed was comfortable, with different types of pillows for all persuasions. Great patio and a beautiful view. The place was clean, well kept, and quiet. I kept all the windows open and fell asleep to the sound of the breeze every night. I couldn't have asked for a better place to stay during my time in Maui. Peaceful, serene, visually stunning. I would stay here again in a heartbeat.Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, families with teenagers, pet owners, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.

I love this place! A hidden Gem. Quiet, beautiful and the owners are wonderful. The deck for coffee in the morning looking over the beautiful ocean views. A large grass garden with all kinds of fruit trees. Perfect size and a great location. Very clean with everthing you would need. Peaceful, tranquil and so relaxing. Loved the drive to Hana! We will be back for sure next year! Thank you Max & Tracey!!! AlohaRecommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, age 55+, romantic getaway.

The property is beautiful and the host, Max is very friendly, helpful and generous. We were invited to help ourselves to the delicious fruit from their orchard which we enjoyed every day. Their Yellow Lab, Buttercup is the sweetest dog you will ever meet. Unfortunately, we departed a few days earlier than planned due to the guests staying in the adjoining room. We could hear absolutely everything.Owner response: Aloha Suzi, Extra sound board and paneling has since been installed, Mahalo........

This was our first time to Hawaii and we went to the island of Maui. We stayed ten nights at this cottage and liked it and the bed is really comfortable! The owner was very helpful answering our questions and she went above and beyond helping us out when we needed it. Like the day someone broke one of our car windows while we were at the beach; she let us park in the carport one night to protect the car from the rain until we could get a replacement car. Or when we were trying to find the Orchid Farm; she rode with us in the car to the farm. Being able to pick fresh fruit from the property was so much fun, not to mention having fresh juice every morning was great! The cottage is like a studio apartment, so the only negative for us is that it didn't have much room for families that have children. Would we stay there again, yes we would, but next time without children.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 7/7
